Cute you always are Brer_Papa;)

You keep us chuckling and grinning around here. What would we ever do without you:p I don't want to find out, that is for sure!!

I wouldn't have to catch you Brer_Papa, I would just have to assume the "mother" postition (hands on the hips!) and give you the "mother" look (read ~ nasty glare!) and you would get the message. And spanking is frowned upon and actually can get you thrown into jail in some places  , so I think you are safe from that!

Let's hope that Frances takes it easy on Florida. I hope your son and daughter in law keep safe. He won't have time to get into any trouble because dad is going to keep him busy on the phone the whole time. I hope he brings his charger with him!! Let us know how things are going down there please::yes::

Yes, some people are really prone to the "brain damage" that you so apty described. I don't know what to say about that guy because there is really nothing you can say to/about somebody like that.

Have a good day Brer_Papa, thread - killers and lurkers alike.:sunny:

:wave2: Hollyann, hope you are safe and comfortable in Tennessee. We miss you here:)

I'm gad yu brought HollyAnn up Cruisin'....

Ahoy btw...:boat:

Yes...we miss her....and worry about her....and I know she's going North....but Tom is stll there...I wish he would just pop in and say hey, hi and how are you....

Well...I killed his cel phone...i told him to plug it into the charger while we talked...

but...no-o-ooo-oooo!

He has the back-up plan in effect....his DW's phone was in the charger....so if one goes out....he can charge the other....

smarty-britches!

and since they willbe spending the weekend together...it's a good plan...

looks like things are pretty normal around the Magic Kingdom....naturally...people are talking....and asking the CM's a lot of questions...

and all eyes are on the monster Frances...

and a lot of last minute preparations are going on all over....

with he wind speed drop...and the hurricane "slowing down"...he says that while there is still skittishness...
it's being viewed as a positive sign by the majority...

so.i went to work early....and got done early...not as early as i had hoped...but...here i be...

I told him I was going to monitor the weather channel...but he insists I go about my plans....head to the fair...have some fun....and when things start happening...he will call me...

and i know he will...

and since I got a second wind....I may just do as he asked...

later... :)

I'm going to be bopping in and ut for awhile...before we leave...

so....you might see me again!

PSST! Hey Lurkers....Stoneboro tonight...see some of you there...I have on a blue Hawaiian shirt...looks like waves....denim jean shorts...

stop and say Hi...
don't be so shy...
I'm a nice guy....
sausage I'll buy...
maybe some pie...
and a french fry....

giddy-up

I think your son is right, Brer_Papa. Go out and about your normal business. It will help to ease the worry, at least in the daytime hours. It is those long night hours you have to worry about.

Hopefully I will be able to stay up later tonight. No headaches to get me down I'm hoping. Husband just left till Sunday night. Just me and the kids and we all have our own computers, so ........ nothing to slow me down ;)

I am keeping an eye on the weather and the news too and hoping for the best for everyone in Florida.

You know....I was sitting here crossing my eyes for Good Luck for DS, DDIL and everybody In Florida...

when I noticed that if i purse my lips...or smile...I can see my moustache...

then suddenly, it dawned on me that I have no idea  where the phrase ~~
"bosom buddies" ~~~ came from...

Sure...i coud google it....but that's too easy...

so i put my thinking cap on :wizard:

first...i seperated the words....

buddies? pals...friends...chums...
ok...got it..

bosom? uh oh....better not go there..

so...i put the words back together...

bosom buddies...

well sure...long ago...before the ...

(can i say bra? hmmmmm....i better just say contraption....)

...before the contraption was invented.....the bosoms were buddies...i'm sure that doing everyday stuff..they...uhmmm...mingled...

but...AFTER the contraption was invented....mingling wasn't a-happenin'...now was it?...or...is it?

so...could it be derived from hugging...

bosom to bosom....so they became buddies during a hug?

hmmm..now that Dr. Pepper somg is runnig hrough my mind...with certain liberties taken of course...

I've a bosom...

you've a bosom...

wouldn't you like to have a bosom too?....

or...is it deeper than that....

hearts are around the bosom area....so...could it be that bosom buddies are friends-o-the-heart?

hey! where did the word bosom come from anyway?

hmmm...this needs extensive research....

i don't want to spout off anymore and look like a ****...... rhymes with tube...starts with a b...I've been censored...err...censoured....

aaaw....that was a very nice offer Cruisin' ! :boat:

I will be around tonight...and I'll be a-yakkin' at ya...

PSSST PSSST PSST! Hey Lurkers...if any of you are muti-lingual...see if you have a bosom somewhere....or something close...

this is scientific-like research you know...

hmmm, interesting  . Isn't it amazing the things we live with everyday and don't even realize :teeth:

as to the rest of the "research" project ..... I am glad that you are finding SOMETHING to do to keep your mind off of things :rotfl:

I am at a loss to figure out how you typed that...

since I believe you assumed the "Mother position"... (hands on hips...)

giving my research post the "Mother look"...(read~ nasty glare)...

all I can figure is....toes...

I am indeed impressed...

Hey guys! How's everyone this afternoon--staying out of trouble I hope! ;) Brer_Papa, lots of pixie dust to your wife and son! Hope everyone stays safe; are they in Orlando? My best friend lives in West Palm Beach and when I spoke to her yesterday she said they weren't evacuating! She's 8 miles from the beach so she thinks they'll be okay but this is her first hurricane since moving down there. Is it me or does this thing seem to be the slowest moving hurricane in history?!

Anyhow, on to brighter subjects....

All I will admit to is that I did NOT use my bosom buddies :faint: ;)

Hi Robin!! Any change with your DD? Thoughts and prayers to her--hope she's feeling better soon. Please keep us posted.
I didn't realize how close your DH was to all the action! Sounds like you had one heck of a day yesterday!

Just wanted to check in one more time before spending some quality time with DH. Everyone have a wonderful evening.

Sweet dreams!

Did you not know you had a moustache? :earseek:

 everyone!!

After I left here last night, I spent some time with my tummy-aching DD. That was about 3:30 am. Then again, about 5:30 am, she woke up just plain upset about something. I think it boils down to her being bored in 1st grade. :( She was expecting more 'real' work, and homework and such, and so far, everything they've done, she knows already. I tried explaining that it's only the 1st full week of school, and things will get more involved, and more work will be geared right for her level, but I had to also promise her that I'd talk with her teacher today, which I did. Thankfully, her teacher knew exactly what I was talking about, and promised to send extra work home for DD, and that things WILL pick up soon. She even gave me this simple reader type booklet, that the kids can cut out, and make small books, which was very nice of her (on a moment's notice), but DD is reading chapter books. What else can I do? :confused3

More prayers & {{HUGS}} for all our Floridian 'families'!!

Hi Luckymommy, thanks for asking about my daughter. She is feeling a bit better today, less pain. She did not go to the family doctor today. Hopefully whatever was causing the pain will soon pass.

I can see that your daughter would be upset with school if she is reading chapter books already. I did extra reading with grade one students for several years. The teacher used to send all of them to me on a rotating basis, so no one felt singled out. Even by the end of the year the reading level was pretty sad.

All you can do is encourage her yourself at home. Make sure she has lots of reading at her level and try to incorporate stuff at home into learning experiences to enrich her learning. Maybe stuff like reading/finding words in magazines or newspapers. Math skills that she can handle, even addition and subtraction if you wanted to, using household items like apples or lego blocks or whatever you have handy.

The only problem is that you put her even further ahead of her peers and more bored in school!!! But you can't hold her back just because the others are not at her level.

Good luck helping your daughter learn at her own pace.

Thanks Robin. I've been doing things with her at home already, that's how she went into kindergarten reading. And you're right, it's just keeping her ahead of everyone else at the same time. :( As for math, oh goodness. They started some basic math this week, by way of Mad Math Minutes (or something like that), 100 problems to be completed within 5 minutes, and her 1st try, she completed them all, with one wrong (one other child completed it also), and the 2nd try, she completed them all at 100%. Oy. As BP might say, I got a smarty-britches on my hands. As for the workbooks I have at home for her, she doesn't feel that it's really school-homework, and she wants something from the teacher. I even offered the workbook to the teacher, and told her she could rip the pages out and give them to DD, but teacher says she'll have enough for her. I hope so. I was really looking forward to this new 1st grade teacher, as she taught 4th grade before, so I thought she'd be good at challenging DD, but like I told DD, we need some patience, it's only been 1-1/2 weeks. I just hate to see her upset, especially over something like school being EASY! :headache:

I hate to belabour my minor issue, it's just that I have a couple comments from the past few years still ringing in my head, and they still bother me. :(

A positive note tho also, she's going to join Brownies this year, so that experience will keep her somewhat busy at least. :sunny:

Thanks for 'listening'. :D

Back from the Stoneboro Fair....

Hi LuckyMommyx2! :wave2:

Ayup...DS & DDIL live in Orlando...

double ayup....slowest moving hurricane in history...now a "strong category 2" with winds of 105 MPH....

landfall times have been adjusted....

Good Luck to your best friend....I'll add them to my prayers....

Hiya Kim!

Having a smarty-britches on your hands is wonderful...is it not?

Plus...with the work you've done with her at home...she'll always do well...

and even more importantly, you are opening up the world to her....and those rewards will be constant & everlasting....

belabour?

CAn't say much anout Brownies....i wasn't one...neither was WS....nor any of my Sisters...

Ahoy Cruisin' ! :boat:

in all my hubbub....I didn't ask about your DD...

But I read she's feeling better...that's good...

being the tremendous Mom you are....I know you'll be keeping a good eye on her....and I do hope the pain passes quickly....

well...back to the weather channel on the **** tube....

all i have to do is click the remote with my index finger...

:rotfl: :rotfl:

let's see what the filter did with the words before tube and finger...

the censor button should have 4 *'s and 5 *'s...

I thought the filter would X out index....

it did ****....

finicky finicky finicky.....

WHY on earth did you think that?

I was never a Brownie either, BP. Brown nose I've been called tho. :o  Thanks for your generous comments.

Smarty-britches, not sure how I feel about that yet. :( Sure, it's easier to teach ("she's a JOY to have in class", etc), but not in making sure she's challenged enough at the most important place of all....school. DS was not a smarty-britches, so parent-teacher conferences were different. He has ALWAYS worked hard for every grade he's received, and he's very responsible about his efforts as well....can't take that away from him, to this day! I guess in both cases, it requires parental involvement and assistance, etc., it's just different for me this time. :worried:

Hadn't heard about the category 2, thanks for the update. It's still something I wouldn't want to live through. :earseek:

:sunny: Hi everyone. It is sure nice to have the disboards back.

So I was wrong Brer_Papa, there was ONE thing that could slow me down last night. The fact that I couldn't get on the DISboards!!!!!

My daughter wanted me to watch a movie with her and then I tried to get on the boards but I couldn't. I finally gave up around 2 and went to bed.

Kim, have you thought about some type of music lessons for your daughter. Most high achievers excel in music also and it gives them something to keep them challenged. I don't know how it is in the US but here in Canada if a person has their Grade 8 level in piano they can use it as a credit at Highschool.

 Wendy, nice to see you around again.

Since you are our resident music guru, I have a hankering to hear "You've got a friend in me" from Toy Story.

Do you think you can find it? I don't even have a clue on how to start to do something like that.

My daughter seems to be doing much better, I think. She refuses to answer me when I ask her how her "pain" is. I think she is tired of me asking her. So if she is not complaining then I am not going to ask her about it!!

Today she is in a snit because she went to have her hair trimmed and she thinks they cut too much off and they didn't layer it the way she wanted. Looks good to me, but what do I know ;)
