Wow, I finally found this wwaaayyyyy back on pg 4--how could this have happened?!! Another beautiful evening out...I should run out and get some gas for the lawnmower and start mowing or else I'll be doing it tomorrow.

Just got home from the vet office. My grandma's kitty is doing really well on chemo so I'm very happy. Looks like September is going to be MUCH better than August!! ::yes::

So who's going away for the holiday weekend? I think we're staying put and going to try to do as little as possible. I'll probably even be hanging around here a good bit!

Hope everyone had a great day and didn't work too hard. If I don't check in later...have a good night!! :wave2:

Hey, everybody!!!

Kim I have found a use for the

I just spent 4 hours sitting in the ER with my daughter. She has had this pain in her right side just off of her hip/pelvic area for a few days now. So since it is near impossible to get in to see the doctor quickly and it is a long weekend coming we went to the ER. At first it wasn't so bad, we got to see the new emergency room in our new hospital for the first time. She got registered and examined by the triage nurse and in to see the doctor for the first time in about one hour. Not bad at all! The doctor asks about 2 question. Pokes her in 2 spots really quickly while she is sitting on the table and listens to her lungs. Then he says here fill up this bottle and we will see what we have to do when the results get back.

Well 3 hours later, we were pretty tired of looking at the new emergency room, waiting room  . We finally get called back in by a different doctor. He says ........ well, Dr ...... has left you to me and we are pretty sure that you just have a strained muscle under your ribcage   What, the pain is in the groin area not anywhere near the ribcage  Your urine test is fine, so basically go home and suffer until it goes away.

Liz says she wants to go to the Chiropractor tomorrow and ask him about it because he knows more about medicine than the so called doctors;) and she trusts his opinion more ... and I am afraid that I have to agree with her sometimes

I am planning on staying around home this weekend. We are having a barbeque on Sunday to celebrate my mom and brother's birthday, so that should be fun. My son is doing St. John Ambulance volunteer work most of the weekend. My husband is going about 1 hour away, leaving tomorrow noon and coming home Sunday night to an airplane competition. My daughter is doing????? I don't know what. So there you have our schedule for the weekend ::yes::

My husband just called. He is out at the airplane flying field which is out in the middle of the country somewhere. On the property is a house by the road which some old guy lives in and the flying field is behind the house.

Well, he said that the house has just burned down while they were all out there flying their planes!!!!!!!!!! They could smell smoke but didn't think too much about it, being in the country people burn things all of the time.

Finally they realized the house was on fire. The guy that lives there fell asleep with a cigarette in his hand. The man is okay but the house is pretty much a loss.

The airplane guys tried to help as much as they could till the fire department got there but there was nothing much they could do.

Sheesh....I go away from the DIS for a few days and all hell breaks loose! (See what I calming influence I have? )

Anywho, my first day back to work sucked. Here's my schedule: Sun. 1am-9am, Monday 1am-9am & 9pm to 5am on Tuesday, Tues. 10pm-7am Wed. Wednesday 9pm-5am on Thursday.

Then, they have nerve to had me this sheet asking me to "volunteer" to fill positions in the event that local 54 goes on strike. Local 54 represents all of the housekeeping, food and beverage, etc. I, being a salaried employee, am expected to "volunteer". No way! My mom is a local 54 member, I'm not crossing their line!

Ok, and then, I read this memo that says we are to be cross trained with the Pit clerk department so we can be capable of covering for them when they have nobody to work. Also, we are to be cross trained with the coin department (I work in the cage and deal with chips, etc.). We are to be cross trained with coin because they are merging us together into one giant department.

Getting back to the schedule, from the looks of it, you'd think I was low man on the totem pole, wouldn't you? Nope! They don't know that I know that they had to terminate a co-worker of mine and re-hire her because she didn't have enough time in to go on medical leave. So, that would give me seniority over her and yet, she gets the better schedule. I know this all sounds so petty but I'm really frustrated and just need a place to vent.

So, anyway, today I went and got a transfer for to transfer to the reservations department. That would go perfectly the the travel courses I'm taking! So, if it's not to much to ask, can I have some prayers and pixie dust? A whole bernch of pixie dust. :teeth:

So, how was everyone else's day?

Hi Everyone!

Robin, I am glad the guy in that house is okay.

Kevin, I am sorry things at work are going off to a bad start so far. I hope things will get better for you real soon! I will say my prayers for you and send lot's and lot's of "Pixie Dust" your way! :wizard:

Well this sat. I work and then this sunday is my birthday! :bday: :cake: So I am going out to the Mall of America for my birthday and have dinner with some friends!

Well, from the sounds of it, Kevin, mine was much better than yours! I hope that transfer goes through for you. Prayers, and a whole bernch of *PD* coming your way!!

Robin, how scary for your DH! I'm glad they didn't put themselves in harms way trying to help that man. They could easily have been hurt, or worse. Did the man get out safely?

And boy, sorry to hear about your DD. I hope she gets a more thorough (notice the U.S. U) diagnosis soon! ;) How old is Liz? Could it be something ......... (close your eyes gentlemen) ....menstrual/gyn related?

Sorry about that Sarah. It takes me so long to post a reply, that I missed your post. :o I was at MOA the end of July. It was very overwhelming. I'm sure you'll have a great BD! Where ya gonna eat?

/
That does sound like a very busy work schedule for you Kevin. No late night DISing time built into that schedule. You will HAVE to do something about that ;)

Hi Sarah, the mall sounds like a fun idea. Have a good time with your friends.

Yes, Kim the man got out okay. He was trying to remove the burning couch from the house but it was too late and other things caught fire too.

The guys tried to help him move the couch (I'm not sure why they did that:( ). A couple of them went in the house but my husband said it was hot and smoky so he didn't go any further than the door. Somebody had to stay back in case the others got in trouble. Well, the couch got wedged in the door and the two guys inside couldn't get out. They found their way out the back door though and everything worked out okay. Thank goodness.

Rick, my husband, said it was just like you see on tv, with the flames and the smoke etc. He said it was a very scary thing to see.

Liz (my daughter) is 17 Kim. And what you mentioned was one thing we thought of too. It is in the right general area. We also wondered about appendicitis. She says that it still hurts alot tonight :( She might go to our family doctor tomorrow for a second opinion. The family doctor has walk in clinic day tomorrow.

Wow Robin, that is scarier than I even imagined! :scared1: It's a blessing they all are safe, and truly wonderful of them to help.

I hope Liz gets a better idea of what's happening tomorrow. You don't want to wait until it really becomes something serious. :( I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for your good wishes Kim, I hope she feels better soon too.

Okay I have a question for all of you thread killers!!!

How do you pronounce the following words:

roof

garage

Here we say roof like you would say moo or too or rue.

garage we pronounce as grrrr awe g , like mirage.

How do you say these words?????

I'm the worst to ask. :o I once posted a thread about dialects & accents, and was basically told that the Midwestern 'accent' I have, is an accent. Which I disagree with strongly, seeing as MOST TV shows talk the SAME way I do! So, is Hollywood all Midwesterners? Who DOES have the non-dialect/accent, original 'voice'? Ugh, don't get me started.

I say roof two different ways, depending on the sentence I'm using it in, I don't know why.

We say garage like you, but with 2 syllables...ga'rage. (I never make sense with phonics. :o, sorry)

I meant to add, that in the end, it's all in how we READ it anyway, isn't it? ;) At least here. :D

Yes it doesn't matter how it is here because you put your own "accent" on to the words.

I was telling my husband today about the paycheques, paychecks and all the u stuff and he was saying about how people pronounce roof like ruff or sounding like a dog woof.

I agree with the accents Kim, because I don't think people on most tv shows have an accent that sounds much different than the way that we talk here.

Hey MMF! :wave2:

Sending you good thoughts...best wishes....enough Pixie dust so even someone as tall as you has to look up...

and adding you to my prayers....I hope it all works out for you...

I'm sure your Mom appreciates your support.....as wellas everyone else does in Local 54....

and ayup....your schedule sucks...

Hiya ZEN!

I've never been to MOA....but i do hear it makes for an exceptional outing...have a blast! (pre Happy Birthday Wishes!)

Hello Kim!

Well...everyone I talk to says they have no accent..and they say the people on TV or the movies sound just like them...

I have a theory....

Voice-overs.

Ayup...I think Hollyood sends you guys a soundtrack with people doing voice overs
that fit that particular areas accent and dialect.

I have harbored his suspicion for many many years...

I was fishing in Canada...at Lake Simco in a town called Aurelia...

one evening....i was stretched out on a bed in my motel...watching a sitcom....

when all of a sudden....this sitcom star said his "signature" saying...

he said..."DYNO-O-MITE EH"

oddly enough....i watched the rerun in summer...same show...same star...only...

he said "DYNO-O-MITE"

makes you wonder, doesn't it? ::yes::

Ahoy Cruisin' ! :boat:

I sincerely hope all is well with your DD!

You are a Great Mom...siting there all that time...holding her hand...being there...

a Tip-o-the-Hat to you....

Whew! that would be a close one....glad the old gent is OK...as well as those helpers who came to his aid...

sounds like Rick kept a cool head too....kudos all around...

Jeeze Louise....all i did was say "harumph"

just listen to that classic Oldie...

"Up on the Roof"...that's how I say it...

I say garage... ga -rhymes with mirage...

may I ask a question...with an advance warning that if me saying harumph made you scold me...

what I am about to ask may make you want to spank me....

which by the way...would be impossible...

you see...I am pretty spry...I don't think you coud catch me to spank me...even if I gave YOU a headstart...and I ran straight at you...

I'd feint to the left....juke to the right....I'd be bobbin' and weavin'....

aaaah....poor child....you'd never lay a glove on me....

anyway...here goes...

when you watch a movie or a tv show....and they have the dialogue running across the screen....

if THOSE words don't have the "U" added to them....can you enjoy the movie/show as much? Do you lose the plot? Miss the joke?

For example: which is funnier?

knock knock

who's there?

orange

orange who?

orange your favorite color?

OR....

knock knock

who's there?

orange

orange who?

orange your favourite colour?

OK..on your mark!

Get set!

GO!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Told you....too spry....can't catch me....

PSSST! Hey Lurkers.....

now don't you guys start choosing sides on this dialect dispute...

UNLESS you jump in and announce your support...err...suppourt....one way or another...

every once in a while...i get a "feelng"...I have powers you know...

that something is posted here that starts a flurry of PM's between you lurking friends-o-ours....and I don't want to see or "feel" you'se guys arguing behind our backs....not that we're arguing here mind you...

just a friendly banter....err..bantuer...

OK, Now I KNOW it's time for bed! :earseek:

:wave2: Nitey nite all!

Sometimes...these postings here reminds me of "phone tag"...

Hi LuckyMommyx2!

I'll be going tothe fair....and picnicing this weekend....and worrying about my boy and his wife...and all our friends in Florida...

DS called earlier today...he said everyone where he lives as been given a letter saying ...a direct quote...

"it is suggested you evacuate"

because of the approaching hurricane...

well...what's he do?

he volunteers for storm "ride out duty"
....

afer he explained it to me...I see the wisdom of his choice....but....still...

no matter what or why....we'll be worrying about him and his wife...and everybody..

well...that brings you..and all the good people here...up to date...

until I call him in the morning....and late morning.and at lunch....and the afternoon, evening, night and before he goes to bed...and in the middle of the night...

he knows the drill.... :)

Jeeze....this dude on the weather channel JUST NOW said that if Frances doesn't make landfall and swings northward NEXT to Florida...

it's so big....bigger than Texas...

...and because the winds are sustaining at 39 to 73 MPH MILES from the eye......that it will still wreak havoc on Florida

holy kay-rap....

Listen to this....

after I left here...I went to this other message board I frequent....and naturally....Hurricane Frances was dominating the conversatons...

all of a sudden...this poster...I think it was a "regular" using a different name...

either name...he's a pbrczyt-head....

he gets on there and says...

this is God's way of revenge since Florida screwed up the 2000 election and put Bush in office......sending one hurricane after the other and that they all deserve what happens to them...
..and they should be prepared to accept ths storm and everything else that follows...

well..after patiently explaining to him the brain damage already done from lack of oxygen because of multiple self cranial insertions in his rectum.....I offered to exchange phone numbers, addresses, meeting places etecetera to "debate" this face to face...

alas....as trolls are wont to do....he faded away....

aaaaah....i might have been baited....and I certainly did "feed the troll"...

especially since the language there can be a bit more "colorful" than here...

however...that had to be the most insensitive, inane and the all time stupidest remark I ever read....

that boy needs a trip to the woodshed...

I was goin to start that last post...

"After I put Kim to bed...I went to this other message board I frequent..."

but i was still too mad to be cute and funny...

so....i did some cyber-therapy...

WHACK! :bounce: <~~ prczbyt-head

WHACK! :bounce: <~~ prczybt-head

WHACK! :bounce: <~~~ prczbyt-head

WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!

:jumping1: <~~~ prczbyt-head

I'm still mad at prczybt-head...but...

I'm cute again....
