Who else has had the H1N1 vaccine? - update post 92 looks like my DD has the Flu.

Got mine today. I work in a hospital, there was plenty to go around.

I almost forgot about this post, until my DH reminded me it was 2 weeks yesterday. So I am happy to report that all of us made it through the window without any trouble. I don't know if the vaccine is really going to help, I pray it is but who knows. All I do know is it certainly did no harm to the 4 Asthmatics living in my house, me included. For the record, ours was from Novartis :thumbsup2

I had mine on Monday. I got the shot. I've felt fine. No problems. Unfortunately, it's not going to give me full protection when I fly out this weekend, but some is better than none I guess...

I'll admit, I was a bit nervous about getting the shot, but my mother and I went ahead and got it on Tuesday afternoon. I'm too old to be considered one of the "high-risk" categories, but I am asthmatic so I qualified. In my job, I deal with so many different people on a day-to-day basis...I've already had a few clients come to closings and disclose to me they have H1N1 - ARGH!

I'm getting on my soap-box now....

While I understand that you may be feeling better, follow the doctor's advice and stay home as not to expose others to whatever it is you may have! While other people (such as myself) may look or appear healthy, you don't know what is beneath the surface. If I get sick, it takes me awhile to get over it. It's not just me, either, be considerate of others, please!

I work in a small (3 person) office, and if one of us gets sick it's almost guaranteed that the rest of us will get it - it's going to be bad news bears if all of us are sick at once. And, what about our clients?! If we come to work sick we expose them to whatever we have as well. Sigh....

I'm sorry for venting, but it is one thing that really peeves me! :-) Hope everybody stays healthy and has a great holiday season!!! :-)

I got the mist last Wednesday morning (8 days ago) - I was amazed at the process at the county health office - I was in and out in less than 5 minutes (not including "wait" time afterwards). No side effects whatsoever. It was available to anyone in the age group.

My husband and boys got the shot last Thursday evening (one week ago). They were administering it for specific age groups and for otherwise at risk patients - hubby has had pneumonia 4x in 3 years, so they did consider him at risk. The experience was not as great as mine was, and it took a little longer (probably 30 minutes). DH has had cold/bronchial symptoms since he had his shot. Boys are fine.

My girls and I got it yesterday. So far, no side effects at all. :goodvibes

I received mine on 11/3 and came down with the flu on 11/8:eek:--been sick all week--it just was not enough time between the shot & exposure to be effective--just my luck. My DH was sick first and I followed him. Make sure you all follow flu precautions. I'm a nurse & DH is in sales so we are exposed to the public all the time, needless to say I have been out of work all week. I'm hoping this will be it for the flu this season.

The girls got theirs last month with no problems. I am 7 mo pregnant and just got mine on 11/5..two days later I had the common cold symptoms. No fever, just running/stuffy nose, chest cough, dizzy spells, etc. I am at the end stages of the sickness where you cough constantly to get rid of everything that has drained into your lungs lol..can't wait to get completely over it!! I guess its still better than the swine flu tho lol..

Our family got the vaccinations yesterday. I had to check the health department's website daily until I finally found a place that would vaccinate without restrictions to age or health.

We have had no side effects. Even our arms didn't get sore. Now we just have to wait the two weeks until we hopefully will be immune.

I hope everyone out there who wants the shot is able to get it.

DS13 got the shot at school on Weds. They are coming to the school and giving the shots to the middle and high school kids (if you signed the permission slip) For elementary kids, the parents have to bring them in and it's on Friday evening and Saturday.

So far DS is the only one of us to get the h1n1 vacine, DD17 will get it when they do her high school. don't know if DH and I will get the vacine or not but we did get the regular flu shot.

So far so good as far as any random side effects for DS, he feels fine.

My kids got their Wednesday and now I'm trying to find somewhere who has it so that I can get it. I'm not having any luck yet.

So DD10 has been a bit mushy starting yesterday. She still went to school and finished her basketball practice last night at 7:30-9. When she came in she said all the running gave her a headache so I gave her a Motrin and figured she'd be ok, no fever at all.

SO this morning I checked her temp and it was a teeny bit elevated at 99.5 with a small cough, but the mold is high so it looked like allergies to me. I gave her a Motrin and sent her into school. Then at about 10am my mommy senses were tingling so I picked her up to be safe and called the Dr for an appointment, 4 was the earliest. I let the Motrin wear off to see where her true fever is and that was a bad idea. At 2:45 she was running a fever of 103.6. I gave her another Motrin and put her in a lukewarm bath which only brought it down to 102.5, it usually works better than that... now I'm just waiting to get to the Dr to get her Flu medicine. BTW, she won't eat and is really lethargic, has a bit of a cough but nothing hurts and since she's already on Flovent her Asthma seems ok.. for now but you can bet I won't be leaving her side.

Since it was 2 weeks from the vaccine on Wed I guess I'll answer my own question about whether or not the vaccine helps fight it off because we're all test subjects in my house.

Did she get the nasal vaccine? If so, I read it can give a false positive flu swab up to a certain point after receiving it.
Good luck! May just be another virus.

No, I only give my kids killed vaccines regardless of what they are for, she got this from someone, not from the vaccine.

I suppose it could be something else but I doubt it with a fever that high that fast.

My kids got their vaccination last week. We are at day 10. My youngest had the mist. This morning he was symptomatic. He is home, no fever yet but other symptoms mimic flu. The district next to ours has H1N1 widespread.

Hope your daughter gets through this illness quickly. Let us know what the doctor says.

No, what I meant was that a nasal vaccine will possible give a positive swab even if the patient is not positive. Here:

Can a person who has received the live, attenuated intranasal H1N1 vaccine test positive on a rapid flu diagnostic test?

The live, attenuated intranasal H1N1 vaccine can cause a positive test result on a rapid flu diagnostic test if a person has been vaccinated in the past seven days. The test cannot differentiate between the live H1N1 vaccine and wild-type flu viruses.

I see now that this does not apply to you since she is more than 7 days out and got the shot, but wanted to express what I meant for others. :)

Are you serious? After all you had to go through to get those vaccinations for your kids?? :headache:

As I've said before, by the time these vaccinations are widely available it will be a case of closing the barn door after the horses are out..

I hope it really isn't the swine flu and she recovers quickly..

So far the vaccines haven't been available here, but in our case it now a non-issue anyway. DD#1 came down with H1N1 last Friday. She's finally starting to feel better today. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of us to get it.

I got mine a few days ago from my hospital. They first gave them out in the high risk areas (ICU's, recovery room, Emergency Room) and then made it available to others in the hospital. There is plenty to go around, since it's no longer mandatory. I walked in, there was no line, signed my consent form, got my shot, and was out of there. No side effects as yet. I got it mostly because I can't get a clear answer whether or not it is still required for my school. I already had H1N1, so I have my immunity, so I'm not too worried about getting it again. But I just didn't want any headaches from my school, and since I couldn't get a clear answer, I figured I'd just get it since it was available and free.

Well, Dr thinks it's H1N1. Get this, the nose test came back neg. and he says he still thinks it H1N1, so I ask him for a better test and he tells me the State of PA won't accept ANY tests except from the sickest patients (I took it to mean hospitalized). So he SAYS Flu but the chart reads "Virus" because the very imperfect test didn't confirm it. No wonder the pros have zero knowledge of what is going on, uggghhh. So anyway DD10 is starting TamiFlu tonight. I asked for my DS11 as a hard to control Asthmatic and Dr gave me TamiFlu for him too, to be safe. As for me, I'm praying some of this is going to help..
