Who else has had the H1N1 vaccine? - update post 92 looks like my DD has the Flu.

So far my 2 girls got theirs in school yesterday. Luckily their school was the 3rd on the list . Both my girls got the mist, but the shot was there too for the kids who needed it. My son is in highschool, and no telling when they will get it. They said, elementary schools, middle schools, then highschools.

DH got his seasonal flu and pnuemonia shots in Sept. thru our local outpatient V.A. and I got my seasonal flu shot early Oct. thru my internist. Strangely enough, when we were visiting our DD in N.C. past week-end, a Walgreen's drug store enroute was offering H1N1 shots. Altho we were out of state, nurse assured me no problem. Needless to say I took advantage, filled out paper with name, address, my drs name/number. Thus far no side effects at all. They had a huge batch of H1N1 come in Oct 30 and to be in such demand I was very surprised there was no line. I am really thankful I was eligible, as I also do home daycare for my DGS & 2 little school age girls and our sweet grands are in and out. DH is currently undergoing some health tests, but will get his H1N1 at V.A. soon as he's cleared.

Our schools have been hit hard with much reg. flu and some swine already. Thankfully they offered reg flu shots and about 60% of students took advantage, incl our grade, middle, and HS grands, but not before our 13yo DGS was very ill a week with flu unders drs care w/temps of 105*. Unfortunately our 4 yo DGS's ped. is out of reg flu shots and our health dept won't immunize a 4yo.

We are viligant about being more cautious, also also carry hand wipes/gels while out and about.
I pray there will be enough shots for all those in need, everyone take good care and pls. stay safe. :

My son (16) got the H1N1 mist this past Friday 10/30 in the morning. No side effects.

I (health care worker who could not get the mist and no shots in our area to be had) got the flu Friday night--- I'm off work all this week. Found out via email that we got the shot in yesterday....a little too late for me now. My husband is also fighting the flu, he's about 36 hours behind me.

Now it's a waiting game to see how ds does. The immunization takes 2 weeks to become fully effective they say. I'm hoping that between the fact he's healthy, he's had the shot for a few days, and he was out of the house from Friday-Monday night that he'll avoid this flu. Dh and I had not ran a fever since Sunday. Though the congestion and being run-down is still going strong.

I've been paranoid of a secondary infection and actually have been seen Friday, Sunday, Monday and tomorrow to have my lungs listened too. I have asthma and to me it feels like it's flared up....though both the ER doc and my doc say my lungs actually sound excellent, my chest xrays look good, my pulse ox and peak flows have been perfect. You should of seen me at my doctors last night-- my first pulse ox was 96 and I was freaking (though that is still a good reading). I would not leave until it was higher. My doctor (whom I work for) told me to relax, remove the face mask, cough and clear my lungs....put the monitor back on my finger and like magic I went to 99---I settled for that. They put me on extra steroids and an antibiotic (for an ear infection) which they said should provide extra protection......who knows I just want to be 100% better now.

The weird thing is, when I get ANY vaccination (especially the seasonal flu vaccine) my arm is always sore for 3 days minimum. And I am achy and feel cruddy overall for 3-4 days as well.

When I got the H1N1 vaccine, not only was my arm not sore, I never felt achy or cruddy. I halfway think I got a bad batch.

Our hospital began offering the injectable vaccine on Saturday, October 31, and I got mine on Monday, November 2. By yesterday, Nov. 3, they were all gone.

Only some very mild tenderness for a day afterward. No other side effects.

Why do they recommend the shots for some and the mist for others? thanks

Also, health care workers who have contact with immunocompromised patients have to get the injection, which is a killed virus. The flu mist is a live cold adapted virus that is shed from the recipient for a period of time.

I'm really relieved to hear so many others are doing as well with this vaccine as the people in my house... especially the people who are further along in the process than us. The stories are encouraging to me, please keep them coming - I like the calm they bring

Today marks day 7 - YAY! The kids are in school and DH just left to catch a plane to Chicago (one of the epicenters - prob. due to the airport) so I hope, hope, hope we now have at least moderately primed immune systems to help keep us safe.

My 2 kids and I got it 1 week ago today. We didn't feel any side effects at all. We got the mist.

we got it 2 weeks ago my Dh had it a week or so before that- and we have been fine- the girls go back in 2 weeks for their 2nd shot dose.--other than DD#2 (6) being not so fond of needled it was A-OK!!

Are ya'll just going to the public vaccinations? I don't know where to find the vaccine for me. We were able to get our girls' shots at their ped, but my doc doesn't have any. I've seen people on here talking about getting them at Walgreens! How did you find out where to get the shots? I have no problem with the public health places, except that I'd have to get there at 5am and wait until they opened at 9am if I hope to get one!

I called our pediatrician and his office is not getting any vaccines at all. The Walgreens in our area is supposed to have them sometime next month. I guess I will see who has it earlier, Walgreens or my kids' school district.

I wonder if the regions with surplus vaccines will publicize that info and share the extras with regions with shortages. It seems a pity that some places have too many and others none at all. Is anyone keeping track of inventories via database or did they just let go of the wheel once this stuff was delivered??? I wonder...

Heaven knows how grateful I am we got ours, but I still feel deeply for the people out there who want them but can't find them yet.

My 2 DDs received the shot on Monday evening (11/2). No side effects at all. My county is not making it available to adults until 11/30. They will give the 2nd dose to the kids on that date as well.

I got the flumist on Monday. They were only giving it to target populations. DD is allergic to eggs and can't get the regular vaccine, so I felt it was best for me to get it to reduce the risk of spreading it to her. Plus, I work with kids all day, so this reduces my risk of coming down with it!

I was so hoping to get it before my convention in Vegas next week, but it's not around here yet! Just read Vegas has 854 cases last week. GREAT.

Tried the walgreens link and got this: Walgreens will offer H1N1 vaccinations at this location, once the vaccine becomes available in the area. Please check back at a later date to confirm vaccine availability at this store.

We've already gotten paperwork and sent it back in authorizing the kids to get the shots at school but absolutely no word on when that might happen. I wonder how I could find out?

My DS22 and DD 16 got their h1n1 injections a couple of weeks ago, and I got my injection today. I'm on immunosuppresives for lupus, so I was able to get it today. The kids didn't have any side effects, and I'm doing good so far too!
