So - who are your favorite authors and what genre do they write?

I have so many but I will list a few - as you can see I like mysteries, science fiction, books about law, etc... I am pretty eclectic in my tastes.

Michael Creighton, Stephen King, John Grishim, Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy, Tami Hoag, Ray Bradbury... :D

I like Ann Rule and the late Erma Bombeck.......two extremes in genre!!:teeth:

Yes, Erma Bombeck is always good for a laugh!

I've recently started reading Karen Kingsbury's books. Wow!!!

I honestly don't have favorites, because I like to read non-fiction best - and most of them are written by different authors.

I'm so impressed--I inspired a thread!

I have a bunch of authors & genres that I enjoy but here's a few:

Charlaine Harris - vampire/romance/mystery

Jasper Fforde- defies description--mystery, time travel, literary detective. Thursday Next rocks!

Joanne Harris - very diverse stories--always excellent. Holy Fools, Five Quarters of the Orange, Chocolat

Donna Andrews - mysteries that make me laugh out loud

Diana Gabaldon - I'm addicted to all her books -- I can barely force myself to leave the house when I'm reading them.

Laurell K. Hamilton - Anita Blake vampire killer series and Merry Gentry fairy series

Michael Crichton, Lincoln Child (I'm reading Death Match right now--it's excellent!) & Douglas Preston.

I'm sure I'll think of more later! I'm always looking for new books so I'm interested to see everyone else's favorites!

George R. R. Martin is my favorite right now. Anxiously waiting on his next book.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Douglas Adams, Margaret Atwood, and many many more.

I love John Saul, Stephen King, Anne Rice and Kurt Vonnegut

I like both Jonathon and Faye Kellerman's series of books. They are husband and wife, and both write, I guess they would be considered mystery, series. Some books are better then others, but all are a nice, easy, enjoyable read.

I've got so many. Do you mean the classics too?

Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Ray Bradbury, Margaret Atwood- SciFi

John Grisholm, Patricia Cornwell, Michael Crichton

Tolstoy, Flannery O'Connor, Stienbeck,

Erma Bombeck, Anne Rice

What would we do without these people?:D

I like Larry McMurtry's westerns. Also like John Grisham.

I just read a couple of tremendous books by Richard North Patterson. Very deep, precise, intellectual.

Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb-She writes romance as Nora Roberts and a Mystery series set in the future as J.D. Robb. I think I have read all of her books. :)

I also just discovered Jennifer Cruise. I LOVE her style of writing. :)

I bounce around alot. I like mysteries - Jonathan Kellerman, Stuart Woods, and Tami Hoag are some good ones. I also like Kristin Hanna (sp?), Deborah Smith, and Maeve Binchey (sp again?). Then I also like to pick up whatever DD, 10, is reading and flip through - sometimes I get caught up in it and actually read it.

JK Rowlings, Maeve Binchy, Rosamund Pilcher, Judith Lennox and Rebecca Shaw....all British authors! I'm a big Harry Potter fan so that explains why JK Rowlings is one of my favourites! The others write about families and village happenings and you just feel that the characters are so real!

I like the ones mentioned as well as John Sanford (series "Prey") books, Mary Higgins Clark, and Danielle Steele.

I like when the characters continue - like that author that writes the alphabet series - A is for Alibi, B is for Burglery, etc.

I'm losing it because I cannot remember names, lol. The Alex Cross detective series, hmmmm.... nope cannot remember! I can see his face on the book jacket in my head though.

I really cannot get into the newer authors.

I love:

Shakespeare: Sonnets & plays

Chaucer's Canterbury Tales

The poetry of, Donne, Lovelace, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, Shelley (Percy), (my 2 favorite eras are the metaphysical & the Romantic poets)

Not big on novels, but I like Frankenstein, The Heart of Darkness, The Dubliners, To Kill a Mockingbird, amost all Twain.

My ALL-TIME FAVORITE is Paradise Lost, by John Milton. Although I am not religious, I love the imagry and the moral issues addressed. Everyone should read this epic poem. It is a Theodicy, that is, Milton's attempt to justify the ways of God to man. Really makes you think.

My favorite is Amy Tan. Her books are so exotic (mostly set in China) and sometimes she makes me laugh out loud. My favorite book of all time is The Joy Luck Club.

My favorite is Mystery. My second is Harry Potter! LOL... is that a "type" of book? ;)

I enjoy:

Michael Connolly
Jonathan Kellerman
J.A. Jance
Lisa Scottoline
James Patterson (Alex Cross!! For you, disney4us2002! lol!)
Patricia Cornwell
Kathy Reichs (My new FAV!)
and Linda Fairstein (sp?)

Love, love, love THESE all!!!

I love lists like this! It's the best way to find great, new authors when you find someone who enjoys similar books to yours.

My all time favorites are Sheri Tepper, Orson Scott Card (older stuff), Robin McKinley, and Guy Gavriel Kay.

Recent ones I've really enjoyed: Jasper Fforde, J.K. Rowling, Lemony Snickett, George R.R. Martin

Other good ones: Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut

(ok, there's a theme!)
