Who are your favorite authors and what kind of book? (inspired by NMamy post)

I've seen many authors listed that I enjoy, and Paradise Lost is one of the most beautiful epic poems I've ever read. The choice of words and the pictures painted are amaizing.

Others I've read and enjoy are mostly mystery type books, with some other elements thrown in... Stuart Woods is always entertaining.

Janet Evanovich is my all time favorite author, the Stephanie Plum series is mystery, romance and humor all rolled into one.

Those who have enjoyed Sue Grafton (A is for... B is for...) you might also enjoy Karen Kijewski - her series will have "KAT" somewhere in the title, similar type of writing and very good.

And for all time classic romance I love Katherine Woodiwyss (I didn't spell that right but don't have a reference right now).

favorite current writer: Nelson DemIlle. I've read every novel he worte under that name.

favorite 19th century -- Dickens, of course, but the Brontes get a nod from me too.

favorite playwright: the Bard of Avon, of course. though I do have a passion for modern Broadway musicals.

and yes, I do like TS Elliot -- how did you guess? ;)

I am writing the names down that I have not read - just a few... :)
Iit is nice to see some new and "old" names listed here...
I love the classics too...

Tami-I think I would call them romance. I thought the characters were very well developed and interesting. The first one I read was called Fast Women. I couldn't put it down. Now I am reading Tell me Lies. They didn't make me think too much. ;) :)

I got mine at Sam's Club. They had them in a 2 pack for 4.98. :)

I LOVE Elizabeth Berg..also Lorna Landvik, Adriana Trigiani-they all write novels, regular womens fiction.

I adore the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell(mystery)

For romance I really like Suzanne Brockman and Nora Roberts.

I love historical fiction but have trouble finding it-I read two books that I loved in that genre:Gracelin O'Malley and Leaving Ireland, but can't remember the author.

I've read all Nicholas Sparks books, dont love them, but I like them.

Jodi Picoult-love most of hers(mystery)
Jane Green is good-she writes Brit chick lit.

Orson Scott Card - the "Ender" series
Douglas Adams
John Grisham
Jeffrey Deaver - espicially the "Lincoln Rhyme" novels (for those that are into mystery novels, Deaver is very good at this)

I love Karen Kingsbury, Lori Wick, Janette Oke (Christian fiction), Maeve Binchy, and LaVyrle Spencer (she is my favorite author EVER).

I LOVE THIS THREAD! I keep thinking we need a DIS Book Club of sorts...

My faves are:

Jodi Picoult
Nicholas Sparks
Dan Brown
Lorna Landvik
Alice Hoffman
Anita Shreve
Etc Etc Etc

I also really enjoy Children's Literature
J.K. Rowling
Lois Lowry
Etc Etc Etc

There are so many wonderful authors out there!

Currently, I'm reading
Jodi Picoult's Mercy
Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 I AM LOVING THIS BOOK! This year I dealt with some parents over the Harry Potter books and other challenged and/or banned books. Since I disagree with taking books out of children's hands since it is a way to manipulate and control while encouraging a child NOT to read, I love the ideas that this book is based on!
Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic (The books are always better)
Ann B. Ross' Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind (FUN!)
and HP & the Goblet of Fire, Mrs. Mike, and The Stand Tolstoy's Anna Karenina
I am reading the last groups with different people/groups. I keep lots of books going at a time because I am way too flighty. If I didn't keep one in my purse all the time, I would never remember to take it with me, or my babysitting bag, or wherever. They are always around this way! They just all need to be very different so there is no way I can get them confused!

What are you reading?

Ashley:wave2:

I read mostly Christian fiction. My favorite authors are Lori Wick and Francine Rivers, and Jan Karon (the Mitford books)

I really like the mysteries that Iris Johansen writes, also.

These are my faves, but I will read most anything if it sounds interesting to me, except I'm not really into romance novels.

John Grisham -- law thrillers
Johnathon Kellerman -- psychology thrillers
Kathy Reichs -- mystery/thrillers
Dan Brown -- Loved Angels and Demons and Deception Point, have Da Vinci Code, but haven't read it yet
James Patterson, Tami Hoag and Jodi Piccoult -- Like most of their stuff
J.K Rowling -- Love Harry Potter!
