Which rides are too scary for DD-8 in US/IOA?

DD-8 is scared of dark, jump out and get scared rides. She loves rollercosters and fast thrill rides. Which ones should we avoid since we only have one day for both parks. Thanks.

I'd say definitely avoid the Mummy! It is the ONLY ride my 6-year-old has ever been scared on.

I was scared on the Mummy, and I am slightly older than 8 :rotfl: You should have seen the picture of me all crouched down with my eyes squinted shut. My 10 year old DD was scared too, she kept wanting to chicken out in line, but I told her after waiting in the long line with technical difficulties making the wait even longer, we were riding it!

My 3 year old DD is tall and went on about everything we did except for Mummy, and she was a little scared of Jaws, and intially was scared on BTTF, but afterwards, she said that was fun. I think your 8 year old will be fine on just about everything, though I can't speak for the coasters at IOA since I am a coaster chicken :rotfl2:

I agree about the Mummy, I loved it but I love all rides but I can see an 8yo scared of the dark to be scared of the Mummy. Also, Poseidon's Adventure (or something to that effect) there are periods in the walk-through attraction that are completely dark and I really didn't find it that interesting since you have to walk through the whole thing! After a day of walking the parks the last thing I want to do is walk some more through an attraction. What were they thinking? Anyway, I really can't think of anything scarier than the Mummy, all the others are scary for non-coaster riders but that doesn't seem the issue with your daughter. Have fun!

And the LINE is scary! At one point a Mummy employee came out of the dark at me saying "The curse is REAL" and I screamed, running in the opposite direction. She had to tell me it was OK because I ended up going the wrong way, I was so freaked out! DH said she was also holding a big scarib puppet, but I didn't even notice.

:)

Still, I wouldn't miss that one. If I were 8, though. . . I don't know.

What we do with our DD (8) is to take her to the exit. We let her watch the kids her age getting off. She then gets to see if they come off scared, or laughing. She is such a sissy when it comes to rides. Last year we did the parent swap thing alot. This year, she rode everything but the Mummy. She wanted to, but I was afraid she would get scared and not ride some of the other things like JP & DDR @ IOA. Now that she's not scared of the other rides, next time I'll let her do the Mummy.

Thanks alot everyone. I kneew I could count on you to give me the real skinny on the rides. I thought that The Mummy may be too scary for her. What about Jurassic park?

We went in August with our daughters, 6 and 9 at the time. Both hated Poseidens fury and twister. We skipped earthquake with them after the tears on Twister and Poseiden. My oldest, who is petrified of anything scarey or with loud noises, loved the Mummy. We explained it to her first and she was apprehensive, but loved it. My youngest could take it or leave it.

I forgot about Jurassic Park. Both our 7yo and 4yo love the movies Jurassic Park and were really psyched about riding this, they loved the ride until we hit the laboratory where the T-Rex comes out, they were almost in tears when we came out. We all felt so bad about it. I will NOT take them on this ride again until they are older.

We went last year with DD11, DD8, and DS4. The girls were even a little scared of the dinosaurs, and my little guy was really scared! He was OK in Jaws - we put him in the middle of the row so he had 2 family members on each side. The Mummy wasn't open then, but I've heard it's really scary!

If your daughter likes thrill rides, she'll love this place! My kids all love fast rides and they had a ball. They especially loved MIB, the Jimmy Neutron ride, and all the coasters.

I can't figure this one out. When we went to Disney, my oldest hated the dinosaur and youngest loved it. I think dinosaur is darker and scarier for young ones, but when we went to Universal, my youngest who loved the dinosaur hated Jurassic, but my oldest who was afraid of Dinosaur loved Jurassic. I think if they like dinosaurs they should be fine, but prepare any young ones for the big t-rex at the end.

We first went to IOA the year it opened so my youngest would have been about 6 years old. He was terrified of the dark and also not crazy about things popping out at him but he loves dinosaurs and really wanted to ride JPRA. He was pretty shaky when we got into the building (and also anticipating the big drop). Well, just as the T-Rex comes at us and we're poised on top of the big hill waiting for the fall, the ride stops. So there we were, stuck for about 5 minutes in front of the screaming T-Rex just waiting for the big drop! He still talks about it when we ride JPRA.
