We go to WDW every January for the Marathon weekend and my husband and I both run. We have been bringing family members to watch the kids while we run and for a night out in celebration. So far, we have stayed at AOA, Wilderness Lodge and the cabins at Fort Wilderness. Next year, we're bringing my in-laws and for all of our sanity, I think having separate rooms would be a good idea so we all have our own space (as opposed to the cabins or AOA where you're all sharing common space.) It will be my father and mother-in-law, myself, my husband and our 2 kids (1 1/2 and 7.) I was thinking of maybe trying to get adjoining rooms at a moderate resort (I know they're not guaranteed, but it seems most of the times requests are honored.) Adjoining would be really useful so we don't have to drag the kids out of bed at 3am when we go to the races. Having never been to any of the moderates, any suggestions? Or other ideas we haven't thought of? TIA

Connecting rooms are rooms with a door in between that allows access between the two rooms. Adjoining are rooms that are near each other, but not connected to one another. Connecting/adjoining is one of the more difficult requests to have honored. I'd recommend POFQ, simply because it's the smallest mod and should your request not be honored, it's less distance to cover if people have to come over to various rooms, etc.

We just stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort and they honored our request of connecting rooms. I was surprised because it was Christmas time and busy, but we did get connecting rooms and it was nice. I don't have a lot of experience with the moderate resorts because usually we do value but CBR was great. The pool area was just amazing, if the kids are going to spend any time there. My kids are 2, 4, 6, and 8 and every single one loved the pool.

Just want to pipe in that I have been denied connecting rooms a few times, so it does happen. If it is important that you all be in one space, if not having connecting rooms would be a problem, then a suite or villa is the way to go.

Thanks, everyone. I think we decided to try to rent DVC points and get a 2BR villa - more space for everyone and guaranteed we'll be together
