Which is better French Quarter or Riverside at Port Orleans Resort? And why?

I have only stayed at POR and it is a lovely resort. It is quite a bit bigger than FQ, a lot of people prefer FQ as it is smaller. I love the lush greenry and theming of POR that FQ doesn't have, FQ has weird plastic alligators and mardi gras theme which I am not that keen on however it looks like a lovely quiet resort and I would stay there.

exactly what i would have written. I agree with every word!

If you do stay at POR, you can try to request a building that is close to the main building....we did, and got it all 4 times we stayed there....
we love the alligator bayou theming...

I have stayed at both POFQ and POR and while I liked then both, I much preferred POFQ. It is smaller, I used to get lost going back to my room at Riverside. The pool is nice, the food court is lovely and we like the Jazz bar there, they have a great jazz guy who plays sax and other instruments.

We are staying at POR in May, which blocks are closest to the main building?

We also looked at staying at FQ but after looking photos of the Mardi Gras masks I chose POR - the masks scared me  and I don't think I could have stayed there for a week looking at them! I will go for a look around though :)

If you look at the map to be near you will want to be in the buildings with teen numbers(Aligator Bayou). Building 90 on the manison side isn't to bad as you just have to walk over the bridge. We were in building 85. I prefer the mansion side to the Aligator Bayou side for the themeing.

I've stayed and both and greatly prefer FQ, although we do walk over to RS in the evenings sometimes.

The mardi gras theme is great, and there are so many pretty and secluded spots. There is also the advantage that even in the furthest block from the main building, it is only a minute or so's walk!

I'm with disneyholic family and wideeyes. I love POR!!! The theming, the foodcourt, the landscaping, ... are all amazing at POR. Yes it may be a whole lot bigger than FQ, but it doesn't bother me, we loved walking around the whole resort. We stayed at the Aligator Bayou side, my personal preference. We did request a building close to the foodcourt and got building 18 which was perfect (also not too far from the parking lot).
Don't get me wrong FQ looks nice too, but the colours were just a bit too in your face and the masks a bit OTT. The foodcourt also has a lot less to offer, then again it does have beignets!
On our last trip we stayed at the SSR (and will do so again this year due to the favourable rate), but we always visit the POR just for the atmosphere and it's foodcourt.

Also check out www.portorleans.org , it has loads of info and might help you make up your mind either way

we always asked for building 14 - if you look at the map you'll see it's right next to the main building...
it's also not near a parking lot or a pool, so you don't get any of that noise..

we really like the location....it also wasn't too far from ole man island, the main pool, and was a short way to the quiet pool and the laundry building (by the quiet pool)..

we thought building 14 was perfect....loved staying there..

i'm coming back in to add - for me, the proximity to the main building was what was important..
keep in mind, that the food court is right next to the door to the path to building 14...
so when you enter from that side, the first thing you hit is the food court - so it's really convenient for mug runs, if you like to buy a mug and refill in the food court...

We are going to ask for one of the mansion buildings. If we are lucky enough to get Magnolia Bend or Arcadian House, how long does it take to get to the food court and main pool please?

Oh PLEEEEEEEEASE tell me you are easily spooked ..... :sad1: I have booked a surprise trip for DD at POFQ - she has been begging to try that one - and she doesn't like anything "scary" (aka not pretty ...)

I think the masks are pretty :confused3 I love the colour scheme!

Plus, I reeeeeaaaaallly don't like clowns, so the masks can't be that bad!

Good choice Claire.

We have stayed at both and they are both great resorts - but I think Scat Cat's Lounge at POFQ is a real bonus. Also the fact POFQ is smaller and more intimate is a plus for me - but I don't think you could go wrong with either resort.

Love catching the boat down to DTD especially in the evening.

Have fun

Tammy

Thanks Tam, went for it becuase its smaller, hope to make great use of the boat to DTD.

We stayed at POFQ last year and loved it. We did walk over to POR and that was lovely too - although it seemed much busier.

We plan to go back next year and will stay at the POFQ again purely for the size as it only has 1 bus depot and on the odd occassion it shared a bus with POR we were first on to get seats and then also first off on the return so it's a win win situation.

If you don't use the transport then I'd say not much in them really as you can easily walk from one to the other to enjoy both sets of facilities.

As for the masks they're in the food court but dangling from the ceiling with lots other stuff so not scarey at all. There's always the sound of new orleans music playing around the resort which is great and the pool is fantastic for kids.

Another vote for the Scat's bar - my girls fell in love with Elliott and one night were given the choice of staying in the park or going to see Elliot and they both voted Elliot! "He's my brother from another mother!"

I don't like that type of mask I think they're a bit scary, but I suppose I am fairly easily spooked - I wouldn't watch a horror film unless it was broad daylight and there was someone else with me too :) I am sure your DD will be fine and will enjoy visiting FQ.

We do plan on going to FQ, I just didn't know whether I could of stayed there for a week, but again that is based on looking at photo's, I bet once I see it for myself my opinion will change (except for the masks!):)

We stayed at POFQ and were given a room on the ground floor in Block 2 overlooking the river - infact it was right by the boat dock. We could actually wait in our air-con room until the boat arrived.

I really liked the hotel, loved the themeing and food court was adequate, not too busy either - dare I say it, but whilst POR has a bigger food court it is the same stuff.

Another big thing is (with the exception of DTD) POFQ is first on and first off on the Disney Buses!
