Which Disney Resort would you pick to eat at on your arrival night?

This is our 1st trip to WDW but we will arrive early morning Sept 20 and aren't planning any parks that day just unpacking, site seeing, Downtown Disney and stuff of that sort since it is our 1st trip then thatnight we are doing HDDR to kick off our disney experience! I hope I don't regret that decision.

If I remember right you are staying at the Poly right?

I would do either Chef Mickeys (gives the kids a character fix without doing the parks) or Ohana.

We usually start our vacation at YC and go over to the Coral Reef for our 1st night dinner. If we're staying at a MK resort we like Chef Mickeys, Ohana or 1900 Park Fare.

We're going to Kona Cafe because it's at a resort we would have to go out of out way to get to during the trip.
Our other idea was Boma (same reason)

We have ressies at Ohana the first night. We are driving and will get to the world around 10am. Just going to HS for my ds, has to do the star wars weekend. :lmao:

Then after we check into our hotel, we thought it would be relaxing to go to Ohana for dinner.

Our first day is room-only rate, so DP won't begin until next day. We chose to do HDDR on arrival day because we wanted OP so we could get Tier 1 seating. Made sense to do dinner that we were already going to not use the DP. Also sounds like fun and won't give us an extremely late evening.

Ohana is our standard for arrival day...we love it and it gets us in the Disney mood.

For our first meal on this trip we are going to try Mickey's Backyard BBQ. We usually travel in December so we never had to opportunity to try this. It is a character meal so the kids should like starting that way.

I love Spoodles and it is my fav resort meal, plus an eve at the Boardwalk couldnt be that bad either.

We took our family to see the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue (2 TS). We had reservations for the 9:30 show. It was a great way to start our Disney vacation. The food was good, and we all enjoyed the show. The green salad had a terrific dressing, the ribs were tender, and the fried chicken tasted home-made. The strawberry short-cake was good too, and our waiter gladly brought us short-cake without strawberries for our son who hates strawberries.

On arrival day we eat CS at our resort. It's a 14 hour drive for us, so we usually arrive anywhere between 6pm-8pm. My rule of thumb is to keep our dinner plans flexible, and simple. I would never plan an ADR on arrival day. Besides, the rest our trip is scheduled with ADRs, and park plans, so it's nice to be spontaneous on arrival day!

I thought it would be fun to be able to watch Wishes from the beach of one of the monorail resorts, so Ohana was our top choice but they didn't have a time for us and Chef Mickey was on our list but I had it saved for a different night. 1900 Park Fare was on our list, so that's where we go our first night and the girls are excited. We've never done a character meal where the characters actually talk. I think that will be magical for them and I'm going to surprise them with getting to walk to the beach to see the fireworks, they don't have a clue about that or the water parade. By the way we've never eaten at any of the three that we mentioned, but we have eaten at Whispering Canyon at the WL and we are going back there our last night. It's a lot of fun and the food was great! My dd's LOVED it!

Depending on when you arrive, get a reservation at either a Poly or Grand Floridian restaurant about 2 hours before Wishes is scheduled, then after dinner go to the beach and watch the fireworks from the beach. Sometimes if Wishes is around 9PM, you can also see the Electrical Water pageant after Wishes. We did this one year and it was a relaxing and magical way to start the trip and didn't use a day of our park tickets.

If I am getting in late, I would prefer to eat at the resort I am staying at.
I would too, except that my resort of choice has no table service restaurant. That, I think, is one of the very few disadvantages to staying at the French Quarter. But there are many items on the plus side; I've stayed there for my five most recent visits to WDW. I'll be there again in November.

Having said that. Where I have dinner on arrival depends upon which park I choose to visit first. This time it's the Studios, so I'll have dinner at the Brown Derby.

Enjoy.

We always eat at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary on our arrival night. :)

We go to Boma or Cape May Cafe when we don't have park tickets for our first night.

We save the monorail resorts for nights we are going to the parks because of the convenience.

Last year we started off at Chef Mickey's - it was a great way to begin our trip!! I can't decide if we'll be doing that again this year and make it a tradition or try some where new like Whispering Canyon. .There are a lot of Ohana responses... what's so special? Why does everyone love it there soooo much? This is the one place I was debating scheduling a dinner for our next trip in September and I chose Kona Cafe instead.
