We recently visited US/IOA and had a great time! The express passes were WONDERFUL to say the least and totally worth the $$. We got the refillable mug on our second day and learned any more days is only $7 more!!!! Using the Freestyle machines was simple but found it odd I could not find just water in the machine. It was a sugar/soda flavors, finally another person said she had looked and looked and could not find it. This was as we saw a tiny sign in that said courtesy cups of water available..... so I stood in line thinking it would be like Disney a normal size cup of water boy was I WRONG. I was given a tiny filmy plastic up, and the employee explained that during the summer they take the water option out of the freestyle machine cause the lines get too long :headache:. We thought this is crazy, people need water in the Florida heat, even our 5 year old was like can we just have water. We did think this was a little crazy and tried the process over again and the results were the same! No water or a tiny cup! Maybe we totally missed something but the lack of water at US/IOA was crazy! I worry about all dehydration that is going around and the cranky people could be resolved with a simple glass of water!:crazy2:

This is the first year that they've taken the water out of the freestyle machines. Not quite sure why but everyone used to get their water from the freestyle machines (you didn't need to have the cup to get water) and Universal claimed it was causing a problem.

Please let Universal know that it was an issue for you.

We are not sure about getting a mug that we need to carry around with us. If we ask for ice water at a QS location or cart-will we get the same tiny cup and not a standard cup like Disney offers?

Plenty of amusement parks just offer free small cups of water- just ask for 2.

Pretty sure still the tiny cup it is like a bathroom cup kids use in a bathroom at home. For our family of 4 we only got 1 cup. We would fill it up mostly with Powerade and just share. The nice thing was it was empty after everyone had a few drinks. Then we would close it and place it in the backpack and go on about business :)

Do you know if they'll fill your water bottles for you? Though standing in line at restaurants and kiosks is much harder than going up to a freestyle machine, at least I wouldn't have to deal with the small cups of water then. It's not as simple as just getting more cups of water. We're a family of 5 so that's a LOT of cups. (Also, I need to drink far more than the average person). We share water bottles though. I'd even be willing to pay for Freestyle to get water as an option. (I realize there are water fountains but that tastes really gross to me. I've tried flavoring it in the past but that gives me headaches. I have used water bottles with filters and that helps some - but the problem is I haven't had luck with those bottles and they end up leaking. We've been through 6 of those so far).

I thought the water at UO was good tasting compared to the water at Disney

My opinion only
Don't need any ugly yells at me...

I find the filtered water fine at Universal........but we use bottled water to brush our teeth.........lol.......never tried the fountains ever. I have heard many say it's better than Disney water..........

And no ugly yells for me either please :)......but........we actually buy bottled water in the parks........:duck:

We call that bottled water beer on this side of the pond! :rolleyes1

Are the water fountains plentiful in the parks?

We usually travel with brita bottles and just fill up from a fountain. No complaints from any of us with Disney water.

Brita is the brand that keeps leaking on us! Those water bottles do make it so the water is tolerable for me. There's a chance we'll be moving to Orlando so I may have to figure out some way to cope with the water situation when out and about.

Is there a certain type of Brita water bottles you use? Ours will be fine as long as we keep them upright. Otherwise, they leak which is an issue now that we're in the backpack stage instead of the stroller stage. Granted, there's a very good chance they were dropped before they started leaking but the kids combined with my clutzy-ness means I need something I can drop gently once or twice and it will still work.

We have had bottles filled for us at carts and restaurants, but that was before they took the water out of the freestyle machines so the policy could have changed.

That's probably because it's over the other side of Orlando, different water source/filtering? Disney World probably have their own.

It's not just you.

I think the water at Universal tastes perfectly fine.
The water at WDW makes me want to gag. It's truly awful. It smells like sulphur.

They must be because I can't remember ever being thirsty and I know I didn't get water from any carts or machines.

You are lucky!

The water at Universal or anywhere in Florida we have stayed makes us gag........very different to what we're used to........so we're happy to buy water there.

I did like the water in NY......tasted fresh! The first time we went I wasn't sure what to expect after Florida water, so I was pleasantly surprised.
