Where else do you have awesome vacations?

Yosemite
Las Vegas
Palm Springs
San Diego
Solvang (yes, there is a casino there too!)

Hhhm, maybe we gamble too much. There are Casinos at (or on the way to) these places.

We're planning to maybe do another trip to London in the next few years.

Wow, you guys have some great ideas! I live in Vegas, haha, so that is sort of a bust idea. We haven't made it over to CA since moving here, though, so maybe that is worth doing. We have a 3 year old and 1 year old, so long car drives and touring around without entertainment for the kids is kind of tough. I suppose when they are a bit older doing the toury thing will be much easier and enjoyable. I would love to do the international travel! How do you find a place to stay and know what you are doing?
Fun!

Buy a good travel book! I like Fodors and Frommers. They both have websites as well, and tripadvisor.com is really great, especially the forums. As far as international travel goes, I always suggest trying Great Britain first. You speak the same language, can read all the signs, its pretty easy. Then venture to places that are touristy. Just because they are more set up and used to tourists, waiters can understand a little english, etc. For example a tiny village in Italy is harder to communicate in than Rome. It is harder in Europe to find a hotel that will accomadate 4 in your case, or 5 in my case, in one room. You have to look for "family rooms" or rent an apartment or book adjoining rooms, which often times aren't available.

It does take more effort and planning, but if you enjoy the DisBoards you probably enjoy planning! We are planning to move back to the USA this summer. I sure will miss all of our international travel. We've been to about 12 countries! Heading to Jordan in a few days and will go somewhere in Europe in Dec, perhaps Switzerland or Germany, and we are in negotiations over our Spring Break Trip...DH wants to do Australia...that's a BIG trip!

Good luck with your planning!

I think the key to a good vacation is the research you do before you go. There are things to see and places to visit everywhere, sometimes even near our home. There are many things you might miss just because you didn't even know it was there. Find something both you and your husband love (nature, art, theatre, adventure, lazy beaches) and go from there you can start with short trips not far from where you live. Thank God for the internet.

With kids that age I'd opt for a cottage on the beach in New England somewhere, Plymouth, Cape Cod, even Southern Maine. Lazy mornings on the deck having coffee while the kids play in the yard, a few hours at the beach, the park or a walk down Main Street later in the day for ice cream/candy stores, maybe mini-golfing or tshirt shopping, casual dinner of fried clams or lobster rolls overlooking the ocean, cocktails on the deck while the kids go early to bed to start again the next day... throw in a drive-in movie, a whale watch or seal cruise, a bike ride (Cape Cod Rail Trail is great!) and you've got a weeks' worth of vacation!

I love WDW but I prefer a beach vacation relaxing for a week, especially with kids that age. WDW gets better the older the kids get:laughing:
