Where else do you have awesome vacations?

Although for total chill out DH and I love Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, just off the North African coast in the Atlantic :)

I have been pondering over such a thing lately myself.

The most fun we have as a family has been WDW and we have another trip planned for 2009, but we are getting older now and the running and crowds and heat have just about taken it toll on us, we can really no longer just go, go, go. I supect after this next trip we will not be visiting disney for a very long time, so I have been looking into going somewhere else and doing something just as fun.

We do go to the beach for a week every year but I really like to go somewhere else as we no longer really enjoy getting into the water.

Thought of a cruise but we love to travel with our pet.

Gatlinburg is always fun but after about three days it can become a bore.

So really I have no clue, we are a family that likes to do something on vacation, not just go somewhere and look at the beautiful scenery .

3 places.... Asheville, NC..... Belize.... and anywhere quiet with a beautiful beach.

I went to Disney alot as a kid, but one of my most memorable trips was to California. I had been there before, but we did it a little better one time. My dad rented a car at the San Francisco airport, and we went North into Marin and wine country for 2 days. Then for the next 8 days we drove south down the coast, inland, wherever there was something of interest. It was a blast. One of my favorite parts was the Hearst Castle. We went to Disneyland and Knot's Berry Farm too. I'm going to take my kids on this trip when my youngest turns 5.

Skiing is always loads of fun. In the west, Mammoth Mountain and Lake Tahoe have some pretty tasty runs.

We like international travel - in fact, we're leaving for 12 days in Argentina a week from today!:woohoo: This is our second time to vacation there.

For a family friendly trips - we really enjoyed Washington, DC & our multiple trips to Sanibel/Captiva, Florida :thumbsup2

Wow, you guys have some great ideas! I live in Vegas, haha, so that is sort of a bust idea. We haven't made it over to CA since moving here, though, so maybe that is worth doing. We have a 3 year old and 1 year old, so long car drives and touring around without entertainment for the kids is kind of tough. I suppose when they are a bit older doing the toury thing will be much easier and enjoyable. I would love to do the international travel! How do you find a place to stay and know what you are doing?

Fun!

Fun!

Have you been to Zion National Park in Utah? It's a short drive from Vegas (2 hrs or so) and it's so relaxing. The scenery is beautiful and there are some paved trails where you can use strollers. The town of Springdale is at the entrance of the park and is really cute.

Zion is awesome

I haven't!! We have been here a smidge over a year and have spent the summer huddled up in the house away from the burning sun, ha! Last winter we did lots of Vegas things, but Zion sounds awesome and not too far at all. I think that would be a great day trip when it cools off just a tad more. Thanks!

If you go and decide to stay overnight, I highly recommend Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens. They have very pretty grounds and a great view from each balcony/patio. It's not expensive either - I've seen prices in the offseason for as low as $70/night. Desert Pearl is also supposed to be great and is one of TripAdvisor's top hidden gems in the country.

I sound like I work for Zion's tourism bureau, but I swear I don't! I just really love that place. It's one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had.

Thanks for the info! I will go check it out. I was just crusing the net looking at the whole area and it looks just beautiful and could be a very easy addiction for a weekend get away from Vegas. Fun fun fun!

Thanks!
Heidi

My top 5 places for vacationing (excluding WDW) are:
Spain: Mostly Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid but NEVER during the summer. Going for tapas and cañas with friends, just walking thru the cities, the old, the new.
Biarritz: Very calm during the winter, and very lively in the summer. The shops are gorgeous and I find the people nicer than in Paris. Great memories of our "honeymoon".
Paris: I know, I know, is full of French people (joking here, I’m ¼ French) but if you can get pass that is an amazing place with things to do for everyone.
New York: A weekend there is like a whole month anywhere else. Need I say more?
Miches: Little fishermen's town in the Dominican Republic with mile long untouched and undeveloped beaches. Just you and the sea with no one in sight. We have amazing weekends there every time we can get a bunch of our extended family to join us.
Those are places that I don't think I will ever get tired of.

We just got back from Denali Nat'l Park in September. Absolutely the best place I've ever visited. We stayed at the very end of the road (90+ miles) in Denali in Kantishna, AK. The bus ride to our cabin (and back out) was spectacular and not for those afraid of heights. :scared1: Saw grizzlies with cubs, moose, caribou, eagles, beavers. You name it, we saw it.

We've cruised there twice but this was our first trip to Denali. We'll be back. Alaska is the most beautiful state in the nation.

Other places we've visited and loved: Yellowstone Nat'l Park, Grand Tetons Nat'l Park, Jackson Hole, Badlands Nat'l Park; Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon Nat'l Parks. (I think you see the pattern - we love our Nat'l Parks!)

And we absolutely adore the Great State of Maine.

We love to cruise. But our trips to Europe have been wonderful. I'll never forget drinking, dining and dancing in beautiful Capri. If you ever get the chance, visit Italy. I crave it nearly every day.
