I need to bring my laptop for work but I am afraid of it getting stolen. We are staying in POR.

thanks

Not sure about POR, but we were able to fit ours in the safe at POP. You could call the resort and ask them if it will fit in the safe.

I've always kept mine in the hotel room. Never had any problem.

If your paranoid you could always wrap it in a sweater and place it in a drawer with the rest of your clothes or something but I've never had any problem with mousekeeping taking anything. It's not worth their jobs.

We will be taking our laptop with us in November and we plan on locking it in one of our suitcases. Hopefully no one will be bold enough to walk off with the entire suitcase. I know ours will not fit in the safe.

At home:lmao: Seriously though, if I'm on vacation at Disney, the work would stay at home or why go on vacation, ya know?:thumbsup2 If you are going as business for a convention or something, then I guess that is different. I'm sure if you leave it in the in-room safe-not sure what size the safes are though so can't say for sure. Goodluck:)

I wish I could just forget about work - but this is a bad time to be away from work - but a good time to go with my kids - so I made a deal with work that I will review some stuff at nights so I do not fall to far behind.

I keep mine in the hotel safe. My 15.4" laptop fit in the safe at AKL, POP and the Polynesian. If you don't put it in the hotel safe, please make sure you have a cable lock for it.

I take my laptop with me whenever I travel. I use a laptop lock to secure it in the room. Just Google laptop lock and you will see lots of options.

I understand-GOODLUCK and I would ask around the board perhaps to see what size the safes are at POR. I'm sure someone would know to see if it will accomodate your laptop size. I'm sure the safes at the resorts would accomodate laptops, but keep asking around and I'm sure you'll get great responses on here. This board rocks:thumbsup2 Goodluck and have some fun too:yay:

I just left it in the room both times at AKL and never had any issue.

We also left ours in our room. However, the first thing we did when we got to the room, was to take a picture of the laptop, showing the room and the date. This way, just in case it got stolen, we had proof it was there. Just an idea....:)

Not sure this is a great idea. When we had stuff stolen from our flat the thieves also stole a suitcase to put their loot in!

Great to hear about cable locks though I didn't even know they existed! :thumbsup2

We always leave our laptop in our hotel room locked in the carry on case. Never had a problem.

Please please don't do this ever again! I would hate you see your name added to roster of people who have had things stolen while at Disney World. Put anything you value in the safe. We all like to think bad things don't happen at Disney World, but they do. I still mourn the loss of my camera and the 2 days worth of pictures that I "lost" at Epcot a couple of years ago. I had stupidly set in on the back of our stroller and it was gone in a flash.:sad1:

I've never had a problem with just leaving it out. However, if you are worried, just buy a Kensington Lock and just it to secure it to the table in the room.

Yeah, they aren't perfect, but if someone sees it locked up they are much less likely to try and break it off.

You can also try something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834999557
Which locks to the video output slot on the back of the laptop. Makes it much harder to break off and more secure. And also doing so would render the laptop useless.

If you do lock it to a table or something else, just be sure it's not easy to steal it. AKA people who lock the cable around the leg of the table... all you have to do is pick up the leg of the table. Sounds silly but people do this all the time in the University I go to.

Also, if you're that paranoid, they shouldnt mind holding it for you at the front desk.

I never used to lock our laptop up, but after hearing reports on this board about some items being stolen, I got a cable lock for our trip last Thanksgiving. We locked it to the wire shelf in the closet area. Just thread the lock through the openings. We take our laptop because I tend to take lots of pictures and had to download every night to clear off our memory card. I have a 1G card that came with the camera and didn't want to buy another card, so taking the laptop was an easy solution. We also got the $9.95 internet a few times and checked our email. My son had to do some on line homework for some college classes so we had to use the internet some.

We stayed at POR at Christmas and were in Magnolia Terrace Building 85 - the safe would not have been big enough to fit a laptop in.

Conversely, if you are simply bringing a laptop to put photos on, you can get a portable photo storage device, like one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OSH614

To transfer the photos on with a touch of a button. That way you wouldn't have to bring the laptop just for that.

I know this doesn't apply to the OP, but maybe someone else would be effected.

While I agree that things can be stolen at WDW there a bit of a difference between having something stolen in a public place like Epcot and something stolen from your hotel room.
