I gave Maggie(our 3yr old black lab) a slider burger the other day cause we had quite a few left...she ate everything but the lettuce.
She also like Strawberries, and absolutely loves smoked oysters.
As long as it's something that won't make him sick. My dog waits patiently when he sees me eating. When he sees me look at him, he immediately sits, as if to say "See? I'm a good boy. I deserve a treat."
Nope, never. Our dog is not allowed to hang around while we are eating. He knows he is supposed to leave the room and go lay down. Although sometimes he does require a good hard stare to remind him.
Part of the deal with that is that he is a large breed dog and we have small children in the house. We don't want him thinking that just because something is held at his face level that he can take it, and we don't want him getting pushy about people food. Otherwise he would be taking the kids snacks right out of their hands all the time. It's actually been a lot harder to train the kids not to feed the dog snacks than it was to train the dog not to beg.
He sometimes gets a treat from meals or snacks, but only after we have finished, and it goes into his bowl.
Our dogs (a GSD and her pet, a Border Collie) will sit at our feet, putting on their best, most engaging expresions, ones we know they have worked on for HOURS, getting each tilt of the head just so, until we put our plates on the ground for them with the leftovers. This is the signal that they can have what's left. (At least we don't ever have to scrape our plates. )
If we don't leave enough, we get looked at and the begging begins anew until we go and get them a little something from the doggie treat bag. Our GSD will even put her mouth over your wrist and gently tug on it, like a kid tugging on your hand. (And yes, she knows that there are exactly two people in the world that she can do this to.)
I don't think I have finished off an egg sandwich in the dogs' presence since. . .I don't know when. I go into the bedroom to eat my breakfast with the cats (they don't like egg sandwiches).
She loves cheese and will beg just like a dog for some of that, and tuna of course. She'll beg for popcorn but I've stopped giving her that because she just sniffs it and walks away so I guess she likes the smell of it but not the taste.
no, I don't like my dogs to have people food. Occasionally we will give them some rice in their dog bowl but I kick them out of the kitchen when I start cooking and make them stay out of the room we are eating in.
