When you have a snack

Yes but just mostly with my cocker spaniel princess. She comes up and puts her front paws on my leg and begs for what I am eating. I admit it I am a sucker for her. When we lost our last cocker Anna couple years ago I never got over it and we found this current cocker in ad in paper. So honestly I guess I spoil her cause she is older and she may not be around long time. We have 3 doxie boys that do get fruit when we eat it so they aren't left out haha

no - I am like a previous poster... I don't allow my dogs in the same room we are eating in and I trained them that way from the start. I don't like animals begging (no matter how cute it can be in some pets) and I don't want to worry about a child getting injured or scared just because one of my dogs wants what they have and doesn't know better than to take it.

in addition, I prefer to regulate my dog's diets and by training the dogs AND the people not to share, I don't have to worry about what the dog has been exposed to. They do on occasion get a treat (rice, pumpkin etc) but it's always served to them in thier bowels.

It depends on what it is. Our dog is a sucker for potato chips.

Off topic...this is our first dog...do they really like pumpkin? and do you use the pumpkin out of the can

lol.. guess I should not have included the pumpkin in my "treat" comment as it's more for when my dog is constipated or something... when my oldest dog gets stressed out (fireworks, thunderstorms) he would get constipated... after a few trips to to vet, the vet suggested a few tabelspoons of pumpkin puree into his food bowel as needed.. this seemed to straighten things out... so he gets pumpkin on occasion. just the canned pumpkin puree always works for him, but I would not use the canned pumpkin pie as that has a lot of added sugars in it.

Oh, I don't know. My GSD will do just about anything for a taste of pumpkin pie. Seriously; if there was a whole pumpkin pie at stake, I think she would teach herself how to drive a car and be your getaway driver at a bank heist.

I don't know which she likes best, pizza, turkey or pumpkin pie.

I sometimes share with my current dog (a Standard Poodle). Most times I will put the plate down next to her food dish and let her finish it up. I will rarely feed her scraps from my hand. If she's too annoying I tell her "Go lay down!" and she leaves me alone. My last dog was an Akita and there was no way I was going to raise her status in the pack one iota by feeding her scraps.

We(really me) don’t share with our cockapoo. Her previous “mom” would feed her scraps all the time; now she begs, and will jump at any food trash or scrap that’s left if I turn my back for a second. If she even thinks there is food somewhere she will do everything in her power to get to it. I’m trying really hard to break her of doing this.... it's not easy.

I am a veterinarian, so the answer is NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband, on the other hand, feeds the corgi cucumber and bits of pepper whenever he makes a salad.

The other dog gets no people food due to his tender digestion. (except his tendency to lick the frosting off cupcakes if I am not careful. He is an exceptionally tall dog).

A 145 lb dog with diarrhea is not something you want, believe me!!!!

No, but most of the time I share with my cat. :)

She loves cheese and will beg just like a dog for some of that, and tuna of course. She'll beg for popcorn but I've stopped giving her that because she just sniffs it and walks away so I guess she likes the smell of it but not the taste. :rotfl:

Yeah, what is it with cats and cheese? Tuna, chicken and other fish I can see, but cheese? My cat crawls out of her fur for cheese.

Nope. Now, if I'm having a drink, with ice cubes, then yes. He gets cubes whenever he wants them.
But, that's it.

BUT....he does get veggies in his bowl. His food is augmented with canned green beans. He loves lettuce and cukes. And when I'm carving a pumpkin, he is 100% underfoot....so those 'eyes' go into his bowl as well. Pumpkin is good for dogs. I use the plain canned pumpkin, no spices or anything else added, whenever my dog has any kind of digestive issue.

The rule at my house is the dog gets nothing out of hand, other than ice cubes. Anything else he may get goes right into his food bowl. I can not abide a begging dog.

Our vets recommended it some time ago as one of my little dogs has digestive issues. I use raw canned pumpkin, no additives. And just a teaspoon at a time, not a big glop of it. I don't do it every day but just as a special treat on occasion.

They love it BTW. They appear to relish it in the same manner that I relish my Graeters ice cream. :lmao:

Gee, I'd think that would be just another day at the office for you.:lmao:

Ha!!! It is, and it is call JOB SECURITY in these tough economic times. I just try to avoid the clean up on aisle home front if I can help it!!!:rotfl:

Yes, my previous two dogs would eat anything you gave them. One even drank coffee. The vet always fussed at us for giving them people food, but they died at 14 and 19.

We share with my current dog, but she's picky.

Our first family dog was a large German Shepherd and probably Lab mix, whom we adopted when we bought our house because the previous owners were moving into a covenant community which forbade large-breed dogs. He was the BEST family dog ever, but he had absolutely no food manners because he had not been allowed in the house and therefore had never really been exposed to people eating. My children immediately turned him into a house pet (good thing he was house broken for the purpose of sleeping in the garage at night), and then we had to set about teaching him not to beg or steal food from the kids. He was a smart dog, and he learned quickly not to take food from the kids or get in your face to beg, but his face was at table-level and we never did break him of doing a "drive-by" if food was left on the table unattended. I don't know how many mornings my son wandered off to go do something and his toast or waffles disappeared off the table. :sad2:

Depends on what I'm eating. They ALWAYS get some popcorn during movie time..when they hear the bag popping they know it's popcorn time. One of mine loves apples and will whimper if I set my apple core down without offering him some ( he loves to nibble on it). Sometimes I'll throw them a pretzel, fruit or veggies, and an occasional piece of lunch meat..but that's about it!

It depends what I'm eating. A small piece of pizza crust, chicken, or fruit I always give my dog.

We used to when our lab was a pup, but she's developed a gluten intolerance over the years so that really limits how much we can share with her now. She'll still get a little leftover bit of something tossed in her bowl every now and then but not nearly as much as she used to. She's a good girl and doesn't beg or grab food from our toddler (which is an amazing act of will, IMO, since the toddler is rather fond of snacking on beef/turkey jerky right about at the dog's eye level!) so I don't worry much about food discipline/manners with her.

:lmao: Oh yeah. Our GSD knows not to do this, but every so often, she thinks it's worth the scolding and being sent outside to think about her crimes.

Sunday evening, DH and I put out the remains of a week old turkey breast while we were cooking. Our plan was to cut it up and give it to both dogs.

We were distracted and looked over at the plate. No turkey. I whirled around and saw a low tail slinking into the formal living room. I called her name. She stopped. Tried to blend in with the furniture. I walked up to her, grabbed at the turkey breast. She moved her face away. For a second we played this game - I felt like the mother of a toddler! Then I scolded her and took the breast out of her mouth. She put the ears down, tail between her legs, slunk over to her bed.

I ordered her outside. She did the whole walk of doom, complete with overly dramatic sigh and slunk outside. I swear, she slammed the doggie flap on her way out!

When dinner was ready and breast was cut up, she was allowed back in and got her share of turkey breast, to her great delight.

Normally, I can leave food on the counter. Turkey breast? Pumpkin pie? Those are apparently too great of a temptation for our beast! :rotfl:
