When you are having a pity party, what do you do for yourself to make you feel better?

I only have time for a mini pity party right now. I'm going to have a full blown one tomorrow. It's weird to have a pity party while knowing you are blessed but hey I'm only human.

Due to this military family I'm working with, I won't be leaving the area for Thanksgiving and naturally my military family friends will be gone as well as my husband. My DC/NOVA people where is the nearest Cracker Barrel? I think they are normally open on Thanksgiving? Of course I'll probably be working that day and may just have some homemade pie that day, another pity party;)

So what makes you feel better when having a pity party?

Tina--I eat! Ice cream.

Also, I just get a really good book and read for a few hours. After that, it becomes important that I find a really good friend to unload on and usually I am feeling better after a day or two.

As for the Cracker Barrel--the closest one to you is south on I-95, taking the Rt. 234 exit toward Manassas. It is right off the exit (a wee bit south of Woodbridge but not nearly as far as Quantico).

Ah pity party. I had a mini one yesterday. I changed into sweats. Filled the Jacuzzi and grabbed my book.
I sat in there for about an hour.
Got out. moped about.Had cookies. Went to bed.

Really not my best work. But the bath definately helped.

Movies are open on Thanksgiving day. Can you go see something funny and light-hearted? Then treat yourself to a Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks. :surfweb:

That's how I'd cheer myself up, anyway. Good luck! :)

Hey, Cracker Barrell isn't all that bad on Thanksgiving. We've done it once.
I'm sorry you won't get to be with your DH and your friends on Thanksgiving. What you are doing is a TRUE blessing:cheer2:

I like the light hearted movie idea. And the Starbucks. And the bath. And Cracker Barrell! If I were alone on Thanksgiving it sounds like a good day to me. Other than that, personally, my pity parties are having pity parties these days! :rotfl:I like to shop, plan Disney trips and go out to eat when I need an outlet and none of that is going on for me these days!

We will be thinking of you on Thanksgiving and count you in our blessings!:grouphug:

I would say ice cream but I had to have gastric bypass surgery so don't take my advice. :lmao:

I like the jacuzzi, good book, glass of wine combo. Sorry to hear that you will be alone. Hey, we're driving down to WDW on Wednesday before. We go straight down 95. We could swing by and pick you up. We're staying at BLT and having dinner at the Poly. Wanna come?

Well, yesterday I said "I'm going for a *WALK*" after getting off the phone (person on other end had NO idea), while out walking like a maniac called my DH on my cell phone to give him the somewhat-bad news, got home and cried like someone had died (they hadn't) in front of my DD (who tried to comfort me) and then called a friend to talk to her. DD & I ordered a pizza from Papa John's (thanks to the Papa John's code at retailmenot.com) and I drank a beer.

This is what happened...
I got up the guts to sell my one and only collection from my childhood and thought I might get some serious dough for it. It was very traumatic to make the decision, very *very* hard. And yesterday I finally found out what everything had sold for...and it was probably at least 75% less than my worst-case scenario. So now I don't have the collection *and* I feel like a moron for making the decision to sell it. And I am not feeling just a little 'down'....this will take a long time to get over.

Tina - if we were going to be in town, I'd invite you over. But due to traffic, Thanksgiving morning we're getting up early and driving to Pennsylvania. In your case I vote for a funny movie AND Cracker Barrel AND Starbuck's.

And I'm thankful for all you do and for your wonderful husband's service.

agnes!

When something is bothering me, I deep clean. I sort through what's troubling me while I'm cleaning. I listen to smooth jazz or classical music and work it out.
Not much of a party, but it's what I do.

 Sorry you're going through a rough patch, Tina. I'm really not an eater when I'm upset. I tend to read or watch an entire series of mindless tv on dvd.

Now that I think about it, I tend to clean as well. When dh went overseas last May when his dad was dying, I cleaned and organized several closets. It makes me feel like I can control SOMETHING even if it's just my closet.

I don't do pity, I go straight for violent anger and go beat the snot out of some guy on Wii Boxing.

I rarely have a pity party for myself. Every time I start down that road I just stop and think about the suffering my MIL had with ALS and it reminds me that I have nothing to be depressed/bummed about. Most of the time, anyway.

If I do end up going down that road, I like to get into my pj's, light a scented candle, put on some soothing instrumental "background" music, indulge myself in a favorite beverage, and either get lost in a good book or watch a good movie.

Or, if the weather is nice, go for a nice, long 2-5 mile walk. Just being outside, in the sunshine, really helps a lot.

I put in the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth  ) and open a bottle of wine.

The movie goes for about five hours!

I think that's it for me too.

I watch t.v. too, during trying times. I'm not a big t.v. watcher. But I'll turn it on and zone out sometimes when I feel overloaded.

Ahhhh, I'm sorry you won't be having the ideal Thanksgiving.

I work in healthcare and have worked so many holidays when I'd rather be home with my family. I know, it doesn't feel fair. But somehow I get through it. I think about how lucky I am, when so many others are suffering. There have been quite a few times when I've come home from work on a holiday and everyone is still celebrating at Grandma's house. :sad1: That's kinda tough, but I usually put some comfy clothes on, eat something naughty, read a book, maybe take a nap. I kind of enjoy the alone time.

I have this Thanksgiving off and I kind of wish I was working. I'm being pulled to go to the IL's, but we never go to my family's Thanksgiving. I'd like to just tell them all we won't be leaving the house that day. :goodvibes Maybe I'll fake work and stay home. :rotfl:

Music. I can flip on the music and feel instantly better.

Wait, define "pity party." I thought you weren't supposed to feel better at a pity party? I thought a pity party was for feeling sorry for yourself? Sometimes you can invite others (I often invite my Facebook friends), but it's pretty much a self-centered thing.

At my parties I cry, drink and eat. When I'm ready to leave the party, I exercise like a madman and listen to Bon Jovi (sing "It's My Life" at the top of your lungs....you can't feel bad after that.) That works wonders for me.

Tina- thanks for inviting me to your party. Here you go

A pity party for me is spending money shopping! New pants, shirts, shoes, you name it. Not to get to personal, but I think I remember you putting in a thread that you were trying to loose weight (please tell me if I'm wrong!!!). I remember you saying that you were starting to jog while walking, or something, so going out and buying a pair of pants one size to small would be a great motovator to lose a few, and really chear yourself up. Works for me!

Cracker Barrel does a great Thanksgiving dinner. We're going there this year and I am super excited. I'd rather go there than cook. We're probably going to the movies this year. Old Dogs will be showing then.
