When was your last car accident?

2005, hit and run rear ending. I was driving at speed and was nailed from behind. I was in PT for back pain and we had to start all over b/c my back couldn't handle the impact. Kids were fine--tail gate and bumper damaged to the tune of $3000 or so.

Didn't seem like a big deal just by looking at it--but I was driving at 45mph when I got nailed. That tells you how fast the guy was going that nailed me. We believe he was intoxicated as a witness followed him and later came back with the rest of his license plate number and the man was driving extremely erradically (sp?) both when he hit me and as he sped off.

My last accident was on June 30, 2004. This is from a post that I made the following day:

Didn’t even want to be awake, but I had to get to the airport. So there I was, on the interstate driving towards Nashville at 4am. I had only gone a few miles when I saw them. They looked like headlights coming in my direction. How could that be? I’m northbound on a divided interstate. Nope, they’re definitely on my side. Worse, it looks like they’re in my lane!

I’ve heard that if this happens, you should slow and get right. I had been driving in the left-most lane so I cut over a few lanes. Much to my surprise, the oncoming vehicle cut left. He was still coming at me, so I cut hard back to the left. So does he.

By now, the separation between the two vehicles had reduced greatly. I remember being close enough to tell that it looked like a truck rather than a car. I also remember thinking that I was not going to be able to avoid a collision.

Next, I remember feeling, but not hearing, the collision. At this point, I remember not being able to see anything because my airbags had deployed. I felt my WJ spinning and then I felt a smaller collision from behind. I had spun around and hit the center median with my passenger side quarter. My jeep then slid down the median for about twenty feet before stopping. ...
I ended up needing surgery on my back because I broke a couple vertebrae and getting some facial plastic surgery to make me a little less frankensteinish.

November of 1974. Was driving my dad to the airport when I was rear ended on the parkway....it was raining and the hit made us tail spin into an cement overpass....we were ok fortunately, some cuts and bruises, but the car was totaled.

2005 - a week after my DH's funeral.. Old lady slammed into my driver's side door and wiped out my Olds mini van.. I really loved that van..:(

May 2003. I was picking my son up from a playdate at rush hour and sitting at a red light. Two cars going in the other direction, one turning, one going straight both tried to beat the yellow light hit each other but then the one, formerly going straight, was thrown off course and slammed into me. $15,000 worth of damage to my car, but only minor injuries. That was my third accident as a driver, none my fault. I've been in 2 as a passenger, once when my dad was rear-ended and once when my brother was at fault.

Wow I guess I must have a target on me!

I've been in many accidents- none of them my fault though.
1990- was in the backseat and driver turned into oncoming traffic, nearly killed both of us
2000- brother was backing up and a stranger backed into us
2003- brother driving and he rear ended someone
2005- rear ended by my best friend, I was driving
2008- rear ended when my friend was driving
2009- rear ended when my friend was driving

Never had one and I've been driving 41 years. I hope my streak lasts!

1999

I was pregnant with my middle son. I was driving to work and a woman ignored the stop sign and rammed into the side of my van!

She had no Driver's License either!

never....knock on wood. I have been IN a car that had been hit before, but never in a car that caused anything! oh, been driving my own car's since 1979

Wow, some of these are really scary... so glad you are all OK now.

My last major accident was in August 1993. DH was driving and we were sitting at a red light, he got the green arrow to go left and as he started to go an older lady slammed into us on the drivers side. She claimed her light was green, but it turned out that she assumed that because a car in the lane to her right was making a right turn and she thought if he was going she could to :confused3 Plus, she was very upset because she had KFC in the car and needed to get it home to her daughter before it got cold. Thankfully DH was not hurt at all. I did have to go by ambulance to the ER because I had only been out of the hospital less than a week for a rare surgery while I was 12 weeks pregnant and they were worried about the baby. We were both fine and released a few hours later.

My only other major accident was in August 1986. I was driving to work around 4:30pm on a gravel road that had just been graded. I hit a deep spot of gravel and the car was sucked to the left really hard, I panicked and tried to hit the brakes but they didn't work, we just fishtailed. We went into the ditch and the car tipped forward with the back tires going into the air and then the car rolled, there was a barb-wire fence surrounding the field and it wrapped around my car as it rolled a couple of times. Once the car stopped I found I was laying in the back seat with my upper body and my legs were twisted between the front seats, I had hit the steering wheel with my chin as the car hit the ditch and the force made me land in the back seat which actually saved my life. As the car rolled the roof was smashed in right where I would have been hanging upside down if I had been wearing a seat belt (this was long before there were laws).

We were out on a country road, no one was around so I had to turn sideways in the front seat and use both of my legs to kick open the door (it was held shut by the barbed-wire fence) and then I walked around the front of the car praying that my baby (10 months) was OK. I had to fight with the fence a little more and then I finally got her door open, she had a bruise and goose-egg on her forehead and wasn't awake. I was so scared but I knew I couldn't move her, so I picked up her whole car seat and started walking down the road and kept begging her to wake up. I walked about 3/4 of a mile and came to a farmhouse, they called for help for us and when we got to the hospital it turned out she was fine. They think her diaper bag hit her as we rolled and that's what left the mark and bump, she was just taking a nap and not knocked out. She was the type to sleep through anything and that proved it. Other than her bumps she was 100% fine. I had all over body bruises and a split tongue and lots of facial bruising, but otherwise fine. We were very lucky.

All the rest have been minor fender benders, little to no damage thankfully.

1973, shortly after I got my license. I hit a parked car, a brand new corvette that still had the new papers in the side window. The owner was not very happy. :rotfl:

Two years ago, four days before my insurance company started up their accident forgiveness plan so my insurance went up $30 a month. I rear ended a guy in his 50's who spent the entire time (45 minutes) we were waiting for the police to arrive trying to ask me out on a date. I've had two accidents in 12 years of driving (not bad considering I've driven over a million miles). My mom always brags about not having a ticket/accident in over 20 years but that's pretty easy when you drive 20 miles a day for work and my Dad drives wherever they go other than that.

Fall of 1990. An Allstate agent blew through a stop sign and broadsided my company car (Owned by State Farm Insurance, I was an accident investigator then)

At first I thought I was only in one accident but then I remembered college. ;) 1977 - A roommate drove out of a parking lot into a path of a pickup. Back seat was pushed in where I would have been sitting except I had been too lazy to move over when I got in the car. Everyone was unhurt.
1978 - Second accident I was a passenger in a Pinto that was rear ended and survived. It was a very low speed crash (no damage at all).
Nov 1, 1989 - Driving my brand new car (had it 4 mos), traffic had backed up onto the freeway. I slowed down, delivery truck behind didn't. I only have some brief memories until I really woke up in the hospital 6 hours later. Took a couple of days for me to remember I took my daughter trick or treating the day before. Had a concussion and a few stitches on the top of my head (which no one could see because of my hair. So a totaled car and I got out without much damage at all.
