When TV shows jump the shark

that was going to be my response. It TOTALLY jumped when the Harlem Globetrotters came to their island.

Absolutely agree!

About Sex and the City: It jumped for me when she started dating Burger. It completely didn't have the zest it used to have for me.

Golden Girls jumped when they created their spin off Golden Palace after the show ended.

I think that ER started to jump as all of the original characters started to leave anumber of years back. We vowed to not watch after Anthony Edwards left....and we havn't watched since! We loved his character and still thought that he should ahve been with Susan?...

IMO Las Vegas started to jump this season when Dania and Melinda got together and are pregnant. I wish that he would ahev ended up with Nikki Cox. Supposedly she and Ed's characters are leaving...

Murphy Brown jumped when Miles left and Lily Tomlin came on.

Northern Exposure jumped in the last season when they replaced doctors

Angel-I think they jumped the shark when Angel and Darla had a baby, and if that wasn't enough his mooning over Cordy should have been.

Buffy-I agree thatit was odd having her die to come back (yet again, don't forget she drowned season one). BUT I think the following two seasons had some great eps. The musical was great! Evil Willow was very cool. I really enjoyed the finale, and hope they do a reunion someday.

Sex and the City-I thought it was great getting Miranda pregnant, she was the second least likely to have one and I think they did it well, she bounced back after. I didn't like Carrie's relationship with Burger or the Russian either! Another show I can't wait for the reunion!

ER-has been up and down for me. The season after Romano died was terrible, but last season and this season have been pretty good so far. I really miss Dr Green too, and I really miss Carter...for me the show could have ended with him. No offense(I now it is a serious cause) but I was getting sick of the Darfur eps!

Friends-the only time I felt it was off was the Joey/Rachel thing.

MASH is one show that I don't think ever jumped the shark. It may have come close to the ramp a couple of times, but I don't think it ever jumped.

I think Survivor has finally jumped. I've had a hard time getting into it this season.

Seinfeld jumped when they killed off Susan.

Cosby Show -- with Olivia, they were on approach, but with cousin Pam they were up the ramp full speed.

If a show has a kid that ages 3 years or so over the course of the summer reruns -- Growing Pains, Family Ties, Fresh Prince -- then Fonzie is off the ramp and in midair over the shark.

At least Roseanne had fun by occasionally poking fun at itself about the changing Beckys. To me, Roseanne jumped when they won the lottery.

Close to ramp-- I agree. I wasn't that fond of the Winchester time. I also wasnt that fond of Jamie Farr going back to regular uniforms.

CSI Vegas has jumped the shark this season. I loved the show up to this season. I'm having a very hard time getting into it this year.

I didn't like the replacement Grissom from the Trenton area. I knew right away that he was corrupt and was going to die.

The show was near the ramp after Nick came back from his kidnapping. After I knew Nick was safe, it was sort of anti climatic.

This season is disappointing.

Actually, the show was officially long over by the time this made for TV movie came out, so I don't really thinks it qualifies as making the show jump the shark. Also, the professor did fix the holes in the boat with an adhesive made from tree sap that Gilligan discovered, but ultimately it disintegrated the Minnow. BTW, love Gilligan's Island- can't you tell!:rotfl:
Wow! If anybody should know about Gilligan's Island, I would expect it to be Jonas Grumby.

Buffy-The musical was great!
I did enjoy the musical episode of Buffy, but that was about it. OMG, remember when 7th Heaven did their musical? That was absolutly horrible.

Friends-the only time I felt it was off was the Joey/Rachel thing
That was weird, luckily it only lasted a few episodes and never really amounted to anything. They were always good episodes though, I especially liked the One Where Joey and Rachel kiss, when everyone else was listening in, and the One When Ross is Fine, when they have dinner with Ross and Charlie. (They're the first two episodes in season ten.) But the overall Joey and Rachel as a couple thing was weird. Rachel always belonged with Ross, and if that had happened, it would have been too much.

I was going to say Facts of Life when the girls all worked at the "store"-- was Mrs. G gone then?

I think she was still around for part of that... the store was Edna's Edibles! Wasn't it like a bakery or candy shop?

But yeah - there's another show with an annoying kid brought on after the other regulars grew up - remember they brought MacKenzie Astin on to play a foster kid?

 But at least they had the sense to bring on George Clooney as part of the cast by then

And, speaking of MacKenzies, didn't One Day at a Time bring on an annoying teenage boy near the end of its run?

I agree with you on this. I mean, I lurve Liev Shrieber but he sure put the suck in the episodes he was in! I also hated, hated, HATED that Nancy Drew vibe that Sara, Warrick and Nick had to do during that whole dumb "reverse forensics" junk Katherine was roped into.

The miniture killer is/was a slightly cool concept...STOP BEATING US OVER THE HEAD WITH IT. It's not THAT good! I did like the episode with lab rats going over the evidence without direction, though.

I also agree with what was written about Las Vegas. I had previously thought that the appearance, and death, of Lara Flynn Boyle was jumping the shark on that show, but they dog paddled a little longer than I thought they would. That death was horrid though, wasn't it? A woman wearing a stupid jumpsuit with flying squirrel flaps gets blown off the roof? Guess an elevator shaft would be too obvious...

I haven't read the thread so don't know if any of these have been mentioned before...

AI- Idol Gives Back   (biggest shark-jump in years and years; AI lost a lot of ground in my eyes)

MASH - When Winchester came in and replaced Cpt Burns. :sad2:

Survivor - When they introduced the whole "exile island" concept.:rolleyes1

ER - When Mark Greene died

Scooby Doo - all I'm going to mention is a little pup named Scrappy :rolleyes1

Buffy: I generally agree with those who posted here that the show jumped the shark when Buffy died (for the second time). However, my DH passionately disagrees; pointing out that several excellent episodes like 'Hush' and 'Once More With Feeling' came out afterwards.

X-Files- When David Duchovny left the show. No question.

Stargate SG-1: When Colonel/General O'Neal left the SGC.

Xena (am I going to admit I watched this?): When Gabrielle had her demon baby.

Gilmore girls - Love this show but they jumped the shark when Luke suddenly had a daughter

Lost - Am still holding out hope for this show but when they introduced the "others" it started getting cheesy

Scrubs - One of the greatest shows ever! Multiple shark jumping in the last couple of seasons

24 - When Jack held his breath through the poisonous gas to save CTU. Although, Jack's daughter getting chased by a cougar in season one or two was pretty close to shark jumping.

I thought LA LAW shark moment was when that older woman who was dated that senior partner (Langley?) fell down the open elevator shaft

That is when my dh stopped watching. (Rosalind Shays)

My ER moment was also when Dr. Greene died. I never really watched it much after that.

But the Others have been in the show since season one. :confused3

True, I just mean that they spent waaaay too much time on the Others in the beginning of this season without really answering any questions. They also seemed to completely abandon the people on the beach during the first few shows too. It's been getting steadily better since the mid-season break though.

I agree with you about that. I thought that the fall episodes, and the first few in Feb were too focused on the Others, Kate, Jack, and Sawyer. (And that says a lot since my two favorites are Kate and Sawyer.) The only thing I really liked in the begining of the season was that Kate finally picked Sawyer.

I also wasn't happy with the storylines of the Losties. Not only did they not get a lot of air time, but I didn't like that they killed Eko, and then there was that whole Nikki and Paulo, who never had a point, and they just killed them off, with them never having any real purpose.

Just wanted to tell the Betty White fans that she is now on Bold and the Beautiful. She plays Stephanie's mother.
