Not ROFR thread - general discussion

Have you decided to resist the temptation of the current CCV "flash sale"? I'm still mulling it over and tempted, but not sure yet.
I am still seriously debating it. Consideration elevated to the level of sharing my spreadsheet math with my wife. She didn't say no. She did say, "that's a lot of money." But she didn't say no!

Trying to decide on adding to our total pool and/or how many resale CCV to wash.

we won't need the larger unit once the kids are older...
Two thoughts.

One: It is nearly impossible for me to predict my vacation needs/habits/preferences more than about three years out. There is always something unexpected that changes The Plan.

Two: Villas are nice even for a couple. Very nice. Maybe not necessary. But nice.

I’m booked for the first part of a trip in a VGF 2Bd SV for 205 points and I was just playing DVC slots to see what else was available…. saw the nights were free for a Poly Tower 2Bd TPV….for…. 302 points…. nope…. I’ll stay right where I am, thanks…
Yeh, they’ve gone too far with those Poly TPV points.

Yep, I feel like that should be my quote under my screen name "Poly Tower is too point expensive" since I say it so often here on the boards. I would love to stay there but I just cant justify it even as someone who owns over 1k points.

Over 1K as well and I couldn't agree more with this statement.

I like the place, but I just don't love it. Certainly not enough to allocate the points needed for a 6-7 night leg every year.

The points chart at Poly is comical, VGF and VGC are high, but Poly takes it to another level. But I also don't love Poly...

Honestly, the problem I think is many owners are buying for studios, and DVC is such a studio heavy product. I feel like OKW, BWV, VB, and HHI have the most "reasonable" points charts, with the exception of BWV, I think it is because they were designed from the perspective of the 2-bedroom villa that people would come and stay for 7 nights...

I picked three weeks that I would most like to travel and calculated the points for each resort for that week, just to compare. Grand Californian was the highest overall. VDL has the TOT which on average for the weeks I selected was basically $400- so in my mind that equals about 20 points (if calculating points at $20 each). Sure, it's not really the same, but if you added 20 pts for TOT to the average 134 for VDH, that is 154pt, which over the pts cost of VGC at 148 average. Those are higher than anything at WDW.

At WDW, Poly takes the highest average for my selected weeks but Grand Floridian and CFW (surprise!) are right behind.

This is for a garden or resort view studio for 3 selected weeks.

Love the chart!

This is where owning VDH and VGC both shines. I know you aren't in the market to own both. The point difference in certain seasons for VDH vs VGC is so high that paying the TOT still saves you alot of money. I would calculate the cost PP the cost of dues not $20, but that is just me (or price of dues w/ initial buy in calculated).

CFW is probably more fair to be compared to a 1 bed, it's such an odd one. Compared to studios not a great deal point wise but compared to other 1 bed it's great.

Lastly I think BWV resort view really shines and should be lower than what is noted here so I believe this is the garden view you priced out. Resort view at BW is a superb price per point. Boardwalk view is also superb point wise. But those categories are so hard to get. The garden view is average at best.

The only thing about ToT: future growth is more unpredictable than point charts. We know what it is today but we can’t predict what it will be in ten years, unfortunately. I love your chart; it’s a great way to compare.
The TOT concerns me too. Especially when I heard of this massive undertaking about making a skyliner in Anaheim. Who do you think is paying for that??

Yes, I used Garden for BWV as it seemed the most comparable (to me) for the Grand Cal, Boulder Ridge, and Beach Club's single option. The resort view at BWV would save points for sure.

Let me know where I can get VGC point at $20pp 🤣

Some of this also depends on if you are going studio, 1Bd, or 2 Bd.

For this first 5 days of Jan (my most recent trip)

VGC Studio: 121
VDH Studio: 58 to 68

VGC 1BD: 245
VDH 1BD: 134

VGC 2Bd: 348
VDH 2 Bd: 192

and if you want a villa…. you have to be an owner if you want any sort of constituency….

The thing about TOT is you only pay while staying at VDH and if you are staying at any hotel in CA you are paying those TOT taxes and the taxes are actually a higher % on cash stays on property and even off property. If the skyliner happens all Anaheim resort district hotels will see an increase.
