When people use words that aren't even words...

Irregardless should be regardless.
Also "kyoopon" instead of "coupon".

Just another that gets my goat: concerning is a word, but it means "regarding", not "of concern".

I usually pronounce it "Q-pon" (phonetically spelled), while my DH pronounces it "coo-pon" (again phonetically spelled).

<singing> Tomato, tomoto, let's call the whole thing off....
Sorry, couldn't resist :teeth:

I can't stand when I see people write "ur" instead of your or you're. Is it REALLY that hard to press an extra 2 or 3 keys?? I've even seen it written in handwriting. I mean, come ON.

That reminds me... "extry" instead of "extra" really gets me too.

Wow...some of these made me laugh out loud! Thanks for sharing!

My big one is that we used to have a man who was coincidentally our unit's education rep who was asking me some questions one day and said to me, "Well, I need to know pacifically what you are looking to do." Yes...pacifically for specifically.

Same guy sent out an e-mail later with READ THIS CAREFULLY! at the top.
He then told us we were meeting at a local hospital but that we were not to park in the "patiences" parking places. :confused3

Another e-mail from him started with, "Hey, don't shoot me. I'm just the massager." :rotfl2:

Again, this was our unit's EDUCATION rep.

I am guilty of saying 'prolly' instead of 'probably' when I'm talking quickly, but I can't understand why people write it that way!

Another thing I'm guilty of but trying to change is 'nother' (rhymes with 'other'). As in, "That's a whole nother story..." I know 'other' is the right word, but for some reason 'nother' just seems more correct! I've heard other people say it too. Very strange.

Actually, I will sometimes type "ur" to my DH instead of the whole word. Only because I'm limited to a certain number of characters when I'm sending him an alpha page.

This is more of a regional accent thing. My family is all from Minnesota and everyone there says "kyoopon". I think it's weird when I hear it the other way!

Wow - from Detroit and now Green Bay (and have lived in NY, NC, and VA) and I didn't ever think I'd heard "kyoopon" pronounced "coo-pon". I would probably think it was strange if I ever heard it that way!

And although DH & I have always pronounced it correctly, ALL 3 of my boys pronounce upside down as up "signed" down!

Used to have a co-worker who always talked to one of our vendors who had a bunch of crazy words and sayings. He (the co-worker) would always get her to repeat them so he could record it on the phone, and then he would transfer them to us.

Some of the better ones was "rectalfits" for "retrofits", and "as the penguin swings" for "as the pendulum swings". :confused3

I do it, and so does everyone I know. I say "samwhich" all the time.

A couple of my favorites: My SIL says "nakin" for napkin and "blacks" for blocks and "aks" for ask...gotta love her

I have a friend that not only does the breafast thing, but also have bis-ketti for supper. Come on, you're a grown man, you can say spaghetti!

My DH say Firginia, instead of Virginia. Drives me crazy, but luckily I don't have to hear it that often. When I met him he said Ice-ning instead of icing, but I broke him of that one! :cool1:

I forgot one!
Many many years ago I worked at a jewelry store and some customers used to come in wanting to see the GOLD CHANGES!!!!!!! They meant GOLD CHAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now if that isnt ignorant, I dont know what is!!!

I can't stand "prolly". It sounds like some hillbilly talking!

Instead of breaKfast, DH says "breafast". Leaves out the "K" every single time. You'd think it'd get less irritating after 15 years, wouldn't you?

Another irritating one: I "seen" that movie or whatever. It's have seen or saw, Darling Husband, please say it correctly once before I die!

My MIL and sometimes DH does this too, only it sounds more like 'breafas' *cringe*

I don't like to hear 'flustrated' it is either flustered or frustrated!

Another is mixing moot and mute. I have seen poster type 'it was a mute point'. :confused3 So the point was silent??? It was a moot point and we use the mute button on the remote.

:rotfl: I didn't see your post, I must have been typing at the same time!

The teacher in my room for SATs a few weeks ago said all the questions were "Mulldabull" choice... it drove me CRAZY.. no wonder my score only went up 20 points.. it's all the teacher's fault :thumbsup2

My mom says "artinerary" instead of itinerary and "a cappello" instead of "a cappella".. it drives me up the wall!

how about:

authentificate

or dishwarsher...

Take it from this educated 'hillbilly', we would probly say probly....

Having been born and raised in Appalachia, it bugs me when people on the news use "App-uh-lay-shuh". I know that is one of the accepted pronunciations, but everyone from the region uses "App-uh-latch-uh". There is a small town in VA named Appalachia and Appalachian State in NC it is pronounced this way as well. Our town has the University of Appalachia School of Pharmacy and it is also pronounced App-uh-latch-uh.

Okay, I cannot stand:
Ax instead of ask
Pitcher instead of picture
Expecially
Supposably
Sektember
Valentime's Day

But the worst, to me, is when someone uses "myself" incorrectly:
Q: Who went to the movie?
A: John, Mary and myself.

THAT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!!
