When is VERO's busy time that you really need the 11-month window to book?

I am trying to decide if I should really go through with this small Vero add-on with Disney.

Can someone tell me the time periods when you really need the 11-month window to book?

If it is not the time we normally would travel down to WDW, then I may not need this add-on. Otherwise, I will consider to go through with it.

Thanks very much.

Well, I don't know about other times, but the last couple of weeks of May are pretty tough. We waitlisted, I called every day coming up on the trip, we would have accepted 1 or 2 bdrm. Only thing that ever was open was a studio and 1 day actually had a Beach Cottage, but I think that was a fluke. Didn't want to share a studio with 2 teenage boys, so we kept our 2 day ressie at OKW and never did get to Vero this year.

If the economy hadn't tightened up, we'd probably looking for an add on there, as the whole family really loved it.

As others on the Board have also indicated, we purchased our add-on at Vero solely for the purpose of securing the Beach Cottage.

So, in our case, it wasn't so much for the time of year, but rather the specific accomodation we were seeking to guarantee!

The "season" for Vero is mid-February through April. It has also become quite popular in the summer months as an add-on to WDW vacations.

If you really love Vero I'd consider an add-on. It seems as if expansion plans aren't going to happen so the resort will not be growing. However, the WDW DVC's keep growing constantly....the pool of DVC'ers who can book at 7 months will keep growing, and growing.

Thanks so much for the responses.

I think I am going with the add-on so that I can always have the option to choose.

Those beach cottanges look so good but cost so many points......

I have been on the VB waitlist since the 7 month window for August!! Still no luck. I actually got a great cash deal for the weekend during our 2 week OKW stay!! If you plan on Easter vacation, you definetly need the 11 month window.

I am trying to convince DH to add on

I think that Pam is right. A couple years ago we got 3 days at Vero only a couple months out. This past trip we tried to get a 1-bedroom the week before Memorial Day with no luck at the 7-month window. We put our name on the waitlist and it did come through but our plans had changed due to a conference my husband had to attend at WDW. We ended up staying at OKW and just relaxing. But we also did a 100 point add-on at Vero while we were there. We want to be able to get Vero during the spring and maybe a cottage in a couple of years. With the number of members rising, Vero may become harder and harder to get at the 7-month window.

Just curious. Can you book a cash deal for the dates that you are waitlisted? Or can you book a cash deal 11 months out? I tried to call MS re: HH to see if I can book next summer for a cash deal, but was told last time that the 2003 rates weren't out yet.

But is it possible to get a room paying cash while waitlisting for the one on the points? Also, if you can get a room for cash, do you always get the 25% off?

Thanks

Also, if you can get a room for cash, do you always get the 25% off?

No, you aren't guaranteed the 25% discount. In fact, once resorts sell-out DVC always cautions they will be few and far between.

You might be able to get cash reservations through Disney and get a discount some other way -- such as Disney Club or a coupon from a Birnbaum book. They used to pretty regularly offer special deals on the DVC site as an incentive to look at the resort. Currently, there is nothing being offered.

Pam, thanks for the clarifiacation.

However, I am trying to figure out if you can book a room on cash, more than 7 monts out, and then at the 7-month window, switch the room to be on points for the dates available, and keep waitlisting for the other dates, until the end. Is this do-able? Thanks

cash reservations and point reservations are not the same- points are made through DVC, while cash reservations are generally through CRO. these are two different organizations - you could cancel your cash reservations when your points reservations came through (if in the allowable time I think it is 5 days maybe less - otherwise you will pay cash). I would not like to chance it.

We made cash ressies for a 2 bedroom at VB last 11/29 -12/2 and 2/14 - 2/18. I was unable to get any kind of cash discount. Tried for Member's discount, Birnbaum offer, and DC. Didn't really expect a discount for the Februrary stay (it was President's Day weekend), but thought I had a good chance for the November stay. The resort was not full in November. No luck. Based on my experience, I think cash discounts of any kind are going to be very limited, if they aren't already.

I read the writing on the boards, to paraphrase.

After reading the DIS boards I realized it was getting more difficult to book at VERO at the 7month window. I added because I wanted to have the 11 month choice and as someone else mentioned there is and will be alot more inventory at WDW than at VB in the future.
I was able to get the points before the price increase and did MB.

March will be a busy time at VB due to Dodgertown being in full swing with spring training.
