" when I grow up......."

When I was little people would ask what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said "Patricia." :confused3 I guess I thought they were saying I would turn into someone else. :rotfl:

I wanted to be a dancer and took dance for many years starting at 6 years old. Thought about being a singer but did not like how famous people were hounded so much. Backup singer sounded better to me:) Then a horse trainer/jockey (watched horse racing a lot with my grandparents.) Then I wanted to be a photojournalist or photographer after seeing the Killing Fields. Then an FX artist.

Now, I have been laid off again and I have no idea-lol. I have been a waitress, bartender, an office manager, a concierge for Disney, managed a web design business with DH, owned a pet sitting business, travel agent, teacher, reservation agent for DCL.

I would still like to work on movies-I love special effects. I would love to help design Halloween Horror Nights. I would love to be a travel photographer/writer. Imagineer:)

I really had no idea. When I was a kid, the world was pretty clear -- most women either worked in stores or factories, women with college degrees became nurses and teachers, and lucky women became actreses or ballerinas. I actually didn't know any SAHM, so that was never an option I considered, nor would it have been of interest to me anyway.

As I got older, the world had more possibilities, but I never found any one thing to dream about.

I want to be weather woman, new anchor person, computer scientist, computer programmer and wrestler.

I have a IT degree aka computer degree. Could not found a job in my field ending up teaching Pre-K teacher.

Every one I meet have always told me I should be teaching so now I am and I love it.

When I was five and someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up...I would look them square in the face and say..."A comedy writer"...not a comedian...or a writer...but specfically a COMEDY WRITER...my other never knew where it came from as my parents weren't in the business and never even talked about that sort of thing...so I have no idea where the notion came from...

...well I never did become a comedy writer...but I did become a comic actor and a singer...so that's sort of the same thing...

...oh...and despite never have studied it in school I've also become a DBA...go fig...:confused3

When I was a little, I wanted to grow up and be a cowboy.

When I was in grade school, all I wanted to do was join the navy and travel the seas.

Neither happened........

when I was in elementray school I wanted to ba a dancer/ choreographer, an astronaut, or an archeologist, lol.

After that I switched between choreographer and neuorlogist. I was (am) fascinated by the brain but always loved dance and creating pieces. I went to a performing arts high school and decided had a great science teahcher. I went to college planning to be on a pre-med track.

I am graduating with a bachelors in psychology (specialization in neuroscience) and a minor in cognitive neuroscience. I still love the brain and plan to go to grad school and get my Ph.D in clinical neuropsychology.

Currently I am working with the same population I want to work with but I just can't do as much as I want. I am also interested in research with that degree. I am heavilly involved in a lab now but I want to be the principle investigator one day.

My boys wanted to be everything. "I want to be a train" one answered when he was three. Baseball player, football player, Grandpa, pizza delivery guy, work at DisneyQuest...I never thought much of it and didn't try to push them into reality. I figured, "They're kids. No reason to tell him he can't be a train when he grows up." ...or his grandpa, or a pizza guy, etc.

I now have one in college now who still thinks someone will pay him to design and play video games for a living. :faint: I'm thinking I should have pushed that "reality" thing a little harder.
When I was young, I wanted to be a veterinarian. When I was a teen, I wanted to be a model. By the time I graduated from high school, I wanted to be an interior designer. I ended up with a degree in Education/English. I worked for 30 years designing software systems. I also taught school and ran a gift basket business. Now, I'm a Dream Maker for the Disney Florist. Odd how things worked out!
I didn't know you switched jobs.

"Dream Maker." Is that really your title? On your taxes, you write, "Dream Maker"? That's such a nice title to have.

Very cool.

I wanted to be a pilot.

And I will be... it's just gonna be quite expensive

I wanted to be a teacher, because I always wanted to be able to write on the chalkboard.

But I ended up an admin asst., no chalkboard but lots of whiteboards to write on! :thumbsup2

I'm 26 and still not sure what I want to be. Is that bad?

I'm a customer service rep for the City of Charlotte in North Carolina. I'm thinking of going into event planning or travel, but it's really not the right economic climate for either.

I wanted to be a whale/dolphin trainer I turned out to be a Marine mammal educator/ Avian rescuer. lol okay so i got close, its not training but I am able to help out the sick ones..lol I still want to be a whale trainer maybe in a few years..

When I was about 4, my preschool teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I answered "A grandma." :confused3 :rotfl2:

Well 24 years later that idea couldn't be farther from my future aspirations. I don't even want kids!

I wanted to be an author....and I am. :thumbsup2

When I was between 5 and 12 I think I went back and forth between wanting to be a major league baseball player and an astronaut.

After that I decided I wanted to be a rock star. My fallback position was that I'd become a lawyer if the rock star thing didn't work out. I played in bands and did the music thing for a while, but I'm now a lawyer, so you can see how my original plan worked out.

Dang, does this mean I have to grow up? I'm 34 and still have no idea what I want to be. All through school, I always said I wanted to be a mom, and I am. So I guess I'm lucky because I achieved my goal, however it doesn't pay the bills.

At one point I wanted to be an engineer because I liked taking stuff apart and figuring out how it went back together. Then I realized there is a TON of math involved and gave that idea up. Then I wanted to be a veterinarian, until I realized that meant blood and death were involved -- gave that one up pretty quickly.

I wanted to work on tv special effect CGI for a while, and even went to college for graphic design but fell into print advertising rather than fx. That was ok but the deadlines were killing me and once I acheived my original mom-goal, I went for something less stressful. I've now been an administrative assistant for 10 years. I'm trying to work up to executive admin but the job market stinks and I'm afraid if I support one person, and that one person loses his/her job then so do I.

Right now I'm doing temp admin work & hoping it'll turn permanent (lost my job last month), and working part time at The Disney Store which is hugely fun. I wouldn't mind doing that full time if a management position opened up. The perks are nice and my children worship me because I work for the Mouse! :)

I wanted to do something that required I wear a Chanel skirt suit, high heels and tell other people what to do.

I occasionally wear high heels and the only people I tell what to do are my children - usually they don't listen. :confused3

I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. I grew up, became a kindergarten teacher and realized that being with 5 year olds all day was driving me nuts! I don't think it helped that I had a 5 year old at home :rotfl:

I'm still a teacher, but now I work with older kids and love every minute of it!

I wanted to be an actor, too or a director.

Ended up in broadcasting, mostly radio, WAY behind the scenes! :lmao:

I wanted to be the Editor of Cosmopolitan magazine.

I'm the CFO at a Food Manufacturing Company.

Not quite as glamorous.

At 4 I wanted to be a garbage man

Then I wanted to work in a doctors office

Then I wanted to be a teacher

I am now a :teacher:
