I'm getting a little more than frustrated...

Today is Wednesday, and our schedule for the week starting Sunday still hasn't been posted. Same thing happened last week, it was Tuesday before this weeks schedule was up.

I need to make some appointments for some personal things, and can't wait any longer. I'm going to book things, and if they schedule me, I'll call out. I give full availability M-F from 4:00pm to close. I did this expecting that I would know my schedule 2-3 weeks in advance so could plan my life outside of Disney accordingly--yes I DO have a life outside of TDS!!

They expect us to give them our requests for days off by the 15th of the month prior, yet they can't even get the schedule up four days before the week starts? What's REALLY REALLY REALLY wrong with this picture?

Anne

Anne,

I can totally sympathize. This happened to me week before last. It was Wednesday night before they posted for the next week. This week the posted for next week early. I wonder if that doesn't have anything to do with our new DM coming for a visit? I wish that they would post them earlier. It would definately help plan. I feel badly for those of you who are parents that have kid activities.

At my store, the schedule is posted at least 1-2 weeks in advance.

Our schedule is posted no later than the Tuesday preceeding the next schedule, which to us is GREAT! We used to not have it up until the Friday or Saturday prior to working on that Sunday, so this is a vast improvement. If we have to make appointments, then we just write it on the calender 2 weeks ahead of time, and there is no problem.

Generally our SM is very good about this..... a couple weeks ago it was kinda on the late side and I crabbed to our ASM.... my SM called me at home the next day to give me the schedule. I thanked her and just explained that if I need a babysitter the longer I have to find one the easier it is.

Eeyore-

That's great! Here's the dilemna. our request for time off calendar is taken down on the 15th of the month prior. In other words the July time off calendar was taken down on June 15th. So we're not supposed to ask for time off after that point.

I would be happy to schedule my appointments around my work schedule. But I can't do it if the schedule isn't up until a few days before! So I'm back to plan A. IMHO I've given them a reasonable amount of time to get the schedule up. I need to make an appointment for next Monday or Tuesday--it's the only day I can get in next week as I've waited so long to make the appointment. So I'm just going to make it, and if I end up being scheduled, I'll call out. Had they had the schedule up last week, the schedule was wide open for me to get my appointment that I need, so this wouldn't be an issue, and I could have worked around TDS.

Does anyone know what SOP is on this?

Anne

I don't think there is an SOP on this issue, ducklite. We are in a similar situation, although not quite as bad. I am going in tonight, and I assume that the schedule for the week beginning Sunday June 30 was just posted today.

I remember the days when the schedules were posted every Monday, so there were three schedules up all the time (except for Sundays).

I simpathize with you 100%, as I get a lot of "heat" for not knowing my schedule. This leads to my mom asking me why I still work there and why I want to go to WDW again................

Now I understand, Anne... that would be really frustrating. Is your SM or ASM, or whoever makes your schedule understanding enough that you could go and tell her the situation and arrange for that time off? Good luck to you!
Michelle

Must be nice to have a schedule up before Thursday night! We NEVER find out if we have to work prior to the Thursday immediately preceeding the Sunday of the schedule...inotherwords only 2 days notice! I can NEVER plan a week. I don't know if I'll need a babysitter until 3 days prior (since my first available day is on Monday)! Just try finding a babysitter on THAT short of notice!!!!!! It's getting harder all of the time...if I plan on a sitter, and then don't have to work, it's equally a pain (for the sitter) I wish they would enforce the 2 weeks schedule posting (and NOT the current week and next week on Thursday!) Okay, end of rant!

it's my understanding that there should (sop) be 3 weeks posted - the week you're in and then 2 weeks more. that doesn't always happen, but i think that's what's supposed to happen.

I do the schedule for my store, I have to admit that I am very good about having 3 weeks posted at all times. In the defense of the other schedulers out there it is not an easy task to do. This week for example, the schedule has been posted for 3 weeks and all of a sudden no one can work their shift. I must have received at least 10 schedule changes that the cm have made w/switching of shifts. I try to have the schedules posted 3 weeks out so everyone can make their dr appts, arrange for babysitters, or just plan an outing w/their kids. I honor all requests (even last minute ones), I realize last minute things are going to happen, but it is very frustrating. I told one of my cm tonight I don't know why I just don't post a blank schedule and let everyone fill in the blanks themselves. Sorry for venting a little, but this is a sore subject in my store at the moment.

I do have sympathy for everyone who does not get a schedule posted till 2-3 days prior to that week. It's not fair because we all have lives out side of Disney - as hard at that is to believe at time. I hope the situations get better. :sunny:

Aladdin 209--Do your CM's get a "black mark" against them if they make a schedule change? Just wondering...

I find it especially frustrating that we need to let mgmt know what days we want off 2-3 months in advance, but we only get to know when we are working 2-3 days in advance...

Bob, what a great observation:rolleyes: Isn't it the truth!! Although our store is pretty good with schedules overall.

And then they turn around and call us the day (or night) before our shift and cancel anyway.

Living moment by moment the Disney Store way.

At our store our SM has calendar posted for each month. There can be no more than 2 people request the same day off. (vacations don't count). As she makes out schedule she X's of the days she has made schedule for so, if schedule's already made out, you have to find someone to work your shift. She usually has 2 or three weeks posted at one time. I'm lucky I only do AM shipments and my schedule never changes.

RweTHEREyet - my cm are really pretty good about switching or giving their shifts away. Every once in a while a reminder needs to be posted about the policy. If I notice a cm is always giving their shifts away I will usually take them a side and have a talk w/them to see what the issues are.

I realize there are baseball games, picinics, and parties that we all have committed to, but what we all need to remember is that we have committed to working at the Disney Store. I'm not saying that the Disney Store is more or less important than any of these other functions, but we all have a choice, to work or not to work in the Disney Store.

On those days it is 85 and sunny out, the last place I want to be is inside a mall waiting on the 5 guests I get in a 2 hour period because everyone else is at the pool, but I made the choice to be there.

Sorry about the soap box.....

Boy, did BobinBstn hit the nail on the head for me. I have learned, though, to still request days off even if the calendar is down. The SM is pretty good about letting me have the days off. But did someone say they get called to cancel shifts?! Are those call shifts? I would love it if I was called in advance to let me know I didn't need to work a call shift. It means I wouldn't waste my day waiting around to not work. How considerate that would be.
