Disney Springs Drone Show

I wonder if the drone show accident in downtown Orlando last year would cause them to think twice? A lot of drone shows across the country were cancelled as a result of that incident.

They should bring it back. I feel like SSR became much more desirable when the drone show was going on.
Agreed. Family would have booked SSR for the Drone Show, but no sign of it coming back :( I tried to convince everyone the Water Parade at the MK Lagoon after fireworks would be fun. One of the kids actually said, isn't that just them re-using the old electric parade stuff by towing it around the lake. I have to admit, that parade is noticeably low-tech by comparison!

Hahaha it is for sure. Feels so nostalgic for me but the young are like uhhhh.

I still have my fingers crossed they will bring it back.

Universal started their drones back up about a week ago after 6ish months of them being down following the incident.

I'm not an expert, but the fact that the drones are completely over water (as opposed to an area populated by people) combined with the fact that extensive testing has been done to ensure safety before the drones flying again at Universal makes me think this likely wouldn't be a consideration at this point.

The drones in downtown Orlando were also over water (Lake Eola) but went out of control and flew into the crowd. So being over water alone would not prevent another incident. However, since it has been quite a while since the accident, it is likely that the investigation into why they went out of control has been concluded, and drone operators can make sure their drones are not going to suffer the same malfunction. I don’t think they will ever be 100% safe (I mean, there will always be a small risk, just as there are risks with fireworks or any other aerial entertainment) but I am sure Universal has done everything they can to be as safe as possible. I believe Disney would also, if they do another drone show like the one at DS.

I'm guessing (on no facts at all) it would be worrisome to Disney to have something like Drones where they feel the risk of someone purposely seizing control of the Drones to injure people is just a huge legal and PR risk. Disney USA is just too high profile and they are remotely controlled, unlike (I assume) the tech of the parade and fireworks.
