When does Yak & Yeti Open?

Not taking reservations does not = not opening.
I'm not surprised that they'd only want to deal with walk-ups rather than committing to serving a specific number of guests each day. That way they can work out any kinks without ticking off a bunch of people if something goes wrong.

I just called and they said they will start taking adr's on Dec 10 for reservations after Jan 4 until that time it will be walk ups

When I spoke to a CM this morning, he checked with his supervisor and was told they would not be taking any ADR's for Y/Y until early in 2008. Was so hoping it would be open in early December, but it looks like we're out of luck. I made ADR for Tusker House instead and will be trying out their new buffet.

Just because they won't take ADRs doesn't mean it won't be open for first come first served!

Can you post some pics, please? :goodvibes

Any details? Could you sniff any specific menu items? ;)

No, nothing specific. :) I could smell food cooking, and thought it was Yak and Yeti - and I found out for sure when a CM said it was.

It smelled great, that is all I know! I can't wait for it to be open to try.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

There is a restaurant named "Yak"?

Where have I been? What has happened to the "magic"? Maybe this is being done in response to all the complaints that Disney doesn't cater to boys as much as girls. My boys would be thrilled to tell their friends they ate at "Yak".

This is killlllllin me, people!

Now I called today and a VERY nice cast member told me they don't have it in the computer yet and they don't know when. She said they wouldn't know until they checked their computer each morning. So who do you believe :confused3 I'm just going to keep trying and hope that it's open for January.

I talked with an Animal Kingdom manager as I was taking pics for my site. He said that currently, the plan is for the walls to come down on the evening of 11/13. But he also said that it is a construction project, and anything can change. However, several CM's have assured me that they expect it open on the planned opening day (and if it's not, I expect it's going to be very soon after). I wouldn't have thought that after seeing it last week, but a lot has changed since then. And signs are up on the restaurant, for the gift shop, and for the outside courtyard.

So did you get the impression that they were only going to take walk-ups, or do you think they will begin taking ADR's for Dec? Also, any news on it participating in the DDP?

Malice - thanks for the mention. :)

I have read they will be taking DDE (I assume just table service, I don't know on that). I have not heard on the DDP.

The manager I spoke with had no idea as far as reservations. Someone on another site (with a podcast) said that the inside isn't nearly finished yet, but that isn't what the cast members are saying. So we'll see. I don't think it's going to be a very long time until opening, from what a number of cast and the manager said (and the fact that they are cooking inside now). But I only pass along what I'm told! :) I do plan to go when it opens. I hope it's next week, but the only solid date I've heard is 11/13, until Disney announces otherwise.

It's exciting to see it moving along. If I hear anything else (whether opening or delayed), I'll definitely post!

I have a question about restaurants that are only taking walk-up reservations such as Yak and Yeti presumably will be doing. Does that mean that you can walk up at noon and ask for an evening reservation? Does it mean you can go to guest services in the park and make your reservation as soon as the park opens? Or does it mean you can only walk up and say, "Can you seat the eight of us now?" If you know or have done this before with a new restaurant please let me know! Thanks!

I called yesterday to confirm my reservations and asked about the Yak & Yet. The very friendly cm said that Y&Y was on schedule to be opening on Nov. 14th. He said they were not taking ressies as of right now but should be VERY SOON. He did emphasize very soon. I said I would keep calling daily and he said that would be the best thing.

The CM I talked to about ADRs yesterday said she had heard they wouldn't start taking reservations until January :confused3

When Teppan Edo was doing walk-ups (I was there opening evening), they were not doing any sort of reservations. I couldn't have told them I wanted a table an hour later, it was completely walk-in.

I just wanted to say also - I wouldn't go by what DRC says except for when you can make reservations. Many DRC agents aren't Disney fans per se', many won't really know anything about Yak and Yeti except what is on their computer screens. I have worked at DRC, and met at least a couple of agents who never had set foot in a Disney park before.

Last week I thought Yak and Yeti wouldn't open until the end of the year, because it looked so unfinished. There is talk on other boards that it could be late December. But I wouldn't be surprised anymore if it was next week, or soon after. It may be, or not - the official word in AK as of yesterday (as per a manager) is 11/14. But that can change.
