What's your favorite tan paint (for inside house)?

And one more, you can't see it really well, but it shows you how it looks with our leather sofa in front of it. We bought that after we painted too...

And I feel your anghst! We're putting new tiles up in our kitchen, along with new wood floors, and then painting. But we're keeping the yucky old cabinets, just can't afford that. And besides, they're still in good shape, they're just that 1950's orangey colored stain. So I'm having a hard time picking out a color. I would love to do orange, like copper, but no way with the cabinets. So I think I've finally decided on a yellow.

Can't you just paint the kitchen cabinets in another colour? I've never done that, but I see them do that on so many home decorating shows on television. I know over here some paint brands sell paint especially for kitchen cabinets!


OP, I am going through the same difficult decision. Until know, I think I will use the Nepal colours from www.coloresdelmundo.com .
What I think is: when you choose tiles, it ha sto be "right" from teh first time, very hard to take them off and replace by others. BUT, I just tell myself that if the paint I choose looks horrible once I painted the whole wall, I will just go buy another colour and re-paint it. Yes, it costs money, but still, it isn't that difficult

We're in the same boat right now. We're looking for a tan color, but everything I look at has too much yellow in it to suit me. Our furniture is a chocolate brown and we have dark wood trim on our doorways and windows. We want to do a light brown from the floor up to chair height, then a lighter tan all the way to the ceiling.

This thread cracks me up. So many times I have a question and someone else has posted already. We are also about to paint our whole downstairs (!). We currently have builder's blah off-white on the wall.

I have two more questions.
Going from white to tan, does it make the rooms seem smaller?

Also, in my living room I have forest green couches and dark reddish wood, is there a certain tan I want? We have golden oak window frames.

We used Behr paint throughout our house. The tan areas are Toasted Wheat. We also toyed with Arabian Sand, but it was a little too light for me. I love it. Went into a friend's house the other day and out of curiousity asked what hers was - same thing. The guy at the paint counter said he got requests for that color alot.

We have BM's Scarecrow on our main level. It is a darker tan color that we used in our old house and liked it so much we used it again. We have BM's Stone House on the ceilings with it. It gives the room a cozy feel.

We have the Benjamin Moore - Monroe Bisque in our LR & DR and while it is a nice color -- it is really a goldish color. It has more yellow/brown undertones -- I don't think this is what you are looking for.

I feel your pain! We had painted spots on our walls for over a year before we could decide what color we wanted. It became a standing joke in our family. Even though we took a long time to make a decision, we are so happy with our choices. I will tell you this, lighting does make a difference. We painted the same shade of green in our kid's bathroom and in our family room. Because our family room has so much light, the color looks so much different than in the bathroom where there is only light from the fixtures.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to check out those Behr paints. I'm kinda going for that "model home" universal tan. My dh thinks I'm nuts, and is frustrated with the whole darn thing.

I used Cappucino from Benjamin Moore for my office walls. It's a darker, deeper taupe.

I have Brown Teepee from Benjamin Moore on my upstairs walls. The light hits it and it looks different from the colors on the fan deck with all the paint chip samples...I bought one to compare the colors.

You might want to get sample containers and paint the wall to see how the paint looks in light/etc.

This tan is Sherwin Williams Practical Beige. I have it in my Great room and hall and I continued it in my master bath. It's a really warm color.

Thank you! That is just the kind of tan I'm looking for! Now is that color true, or is it lighter then the picture shows? It's looks pretty light at SW online.

I have Shabby Chic in my family room-it's like a tea with milk color. I love it. Oh, I think it's Benjamin Moore.

The light really does make a difference. We have a tan in our dining area (that has large windows and french doors) that I liked, so I decided to put the same color in the living room. It came out totally brown, so I had to go waaay lighter.

I'm always embarassed to tell the names of my paint colors. We used Kelly Moore "oyster" and "clam chowder!" The names make me want to gag, but I like the colors.

I have found I usually like the Benjamin Moore historical colors...of course, I have an old house, so that might help. But they are very "true" colors, if you know what I mean...not too trendy or stylized, if that makes sense. Something to think about. Also, you can buy little samples of them so you can paint about a 3x3 swath of your wall, and see how it looks in your light. That helped a lot when we were looking for a red for our DR; very hard to get the right red. Good luck.
