I have owned a whole bunch of dogs covering many breeds, but I have never owned either of my two favorite breeds.... Bernese Mountain Dogs or Neapolitan Mastiffs.

What's your favorite breed of dogs, and did you actually own one?

BTW, growing up, or own my own, I have owned

1. Irish Setter
2. Boxer
3. Golden Retriever
4. Lab mixes
5. Mutt
6. Australian Shepperd
7. St. Bernard / German Shepperd mix

Bolded are my current dogs. Will NEVER own an Aussie again, even though he is pretty much a good dog.

Rottweiler.

and I've owned:
collie
cocker spaniel
labs
husky
basset hound
chow mix

Did I ever mention that I love standard poodles? ;)

Favorite:
Shih Tzu
Borzoi
Collie
Pekingese

I've owned:
Shih Tzu (best dog ever! my soul mate)
Collie (sweet dog, if somewhat lazy)

I love those as well, but my insurance company won't insure against damages if I owned one and he or she bit someone.
I have State Farm....and our agent came to the house to meet our two. We got insurance.

Are there any that are mute? Then that one. ;)

We had a Husky growing up. I think those are beautiful dogs.

I love poodles - especially the miniature poodles (bigger than toy but smaller than standard). They are such smart animals and they make great companion pets. We don't have a dog now but I do miss having a poodle around.

I also love Schnauzers. My neighborhood had one growing up named Hiney and I loved that dog. In fact I still call Schnauzers "hiney dogs". ;) I have thought that maybe our next dog could be a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle mix) and then I would have the perfect dog.

I love Sharpei puppies, Dobies, Italian greyhounds, and min pins! I have owned a Dobie, Rottie, chiuahua, and now a beagle mix.

Dawn, I never owned a poodle, but they were high on our list when last we were looking for a dog. My wife was really set on a Golden. I'm not so sure now, that she thinks she made the right choice.

She LOVES the Golden, but, boy oh boy is she a lot of work... so much hair to clean up, and as many know, it takes two years til they are not considered puppys anymore.... just 49 more weeks to go! Woo Hoo! :rotfl:

I just love dogs! I prefer medium to large size breeds, but I hate poodles. I think it's actually a fear. I was bit by a poodle named Tinky when I was nine.

I haven't owned a dog as an adult but as a kid the only bred dog we ever had was a chihuahua. She was vicious. I tend to prefer mid-sized mutts.

Shih-Tzu!! :)

(He's the one in the middle!!)

We have had:

Irish Setter (wouldn't do that again!)

A St. Bernard/Shepherd mix (like PD's #7)

A pure bred St. Bernard is what we have now (probably wouldn't do that again)

Our St./Shepherd mix was the absolute best dog. He was a rescue and was forever grateful. All he wanted was his own family, and having kids was even better, and coming to live on a farm with woods, fields and 17 acres was just heaven to him. He lived to 15 1/2 and I still miss him terribly (and that's over a year ago).

I'm really partial to mixed breeds.

I love my terriers, but the Jack Russell Terrier is a fit for me - I "get" them. I was raised with Scottish Terriers and Westies and my sister has an Irish Terrier I've kept on occassion.

Basenji's come close! They aren't silent, but they are known as "barkless" dogs.

I have two.

ETA: I also like Goldens, French Bulldogs, Great Danes...and a lot of others.

I wish we could have kept our St. Bernard mix. He was given to us, and by 5 months old, he was 85 pounds. He grew too large to keep in the home we had. We gave him to someone who owned a 100 acre farm. I never saw him again, but the people we gave him to said that he lived a great life and was a wonderful family dog.

Doberman.
We've been thinking off and on about another dog. I want a Doberman, and DH wants a Weimaraner. There's lots of breeds that I'd love to have, but DH and I don't like lots of the same breeds. Right now we have a Dalmatian mix. :)

The Komondor

I currently have 2

**Not my dogs. Although my dogs are direct descendents of the dog on the rock. The kom jumping was actually an album cover for Beck.

I will always have a Komondor. But if I wanted to change things up and add another dog, it would be either a Bergamasco or a Black Russian Terrier.
