What's wrong with Stitch's Great Escape?

So the 2 times I've been to DW that Stitch has been there, we've had our young son with us. I didn't think he was old enough for it yet, from what I had read.

Other than the smell, why does everyone hate Stitch's Great Escape, and what exactly is it? (is it a 3d movie?)

I'm going on a quick weekend getaway with my mother in January and trying to decide if we should put it in the itinerary.

Thanks!

I like the attraction just fine for what it is.

It is primarily an AUDIO attraction with some physical and visual effects added.

But, it's the attraction that many "love to hate," so, you're going to get a lot of negative
reviews.

The lock you in a chair with overhead bars, turn out the lights, and then the stereo speakers in your chair, along with some air and touch effects (ala a bugs life, etc.).

Most kids don't like being locked in a chair with the lights out. The loud noise, fog effects, occasional strobe lights, and the general feeling that an alien is walking all over you is generally not liked by most kids.

It's not really all that good a "ride" anyway. (more of 4d theater effect really)

Check it out if there is NO wait without your kid before going on it. Otherwise, give it a miss.

I agree. Add on top of this that I'm not a Stitch fan. Its Ok but not worth waiting in line for. My main objection is that it sits on valuable real estate that could be better used for a new attraction.

I went on it in 2004, not long after it opened. Stitch is my fave character, so I liked it, but it wasn't something I went on a second time. It's OK. I can see how little kids and those who are claustrophobic would NOT like it.

I LOVE Stitch - yet finally this past trip, our 8th trip to WDW we finally tried Stitch's Great Escape.
Um, it didn't go so well! My girls (8 and 10), came out of there in tears, very upset over the whole experience.
My autistic son freaked when we sat down over the bars coming down - he doesn't like restraint - so I ended up the whole time standing in the back with him, so never myself felt whatever effects happen, so am clueless why my girls were so upset.
I do wish they had a Stitch ride of some sort, or stick him in the Tiki room like I saw on youtube in one of the other disney parks.

I haven't rode since it's been Stitch, only in its Alien Encounter version. I hated it - the harnesses kind of freaked me out - I didn't like the feeling of being truly trapped in the seat, in the dark, etc. My DD (9) rode it last year though and she thought it was fine.

We've been on it a couple of times. Not a must do (we've done COP more), but funny.

Some people hate it because it replaced Alien Encounter, which they loved---it was scary and freaky, and this is just cheezy. Other people hate it because they hated Alien Encounter---way too scary---and this is also still too scary. Some people hate it because they hate Stitch---he's one of the few antihero heros in the Disney canon, and there was a period of time when he was *everywhere* in the parks. And, then there's the chili dog.

I think it's Not Bad. Fun for what it is.

I dont like being attacked in my seat so the first time it was a bit much.. now when I get on I sit as tall as I can (Ok so I even use my hands to hold it up a little while it locks) :rolleyes1 so when the bars move further down I don't feel it and its better!

I've been on the original Alien Encounter and Stitch's Great Escape. They did try to make it less scary, but it's still too scary for most young children.

My niece loves Stitch, there is no way she would like it. Hates the dark and having the restraint come down would freak her out.

My cousins were 8 and 10 when I took them in 1999 and it was Alien Encounter. They both were fine.

I do Stitch's voice all the time and tend to go right up to my partner's ear and say things like "I'm Lost" or "Misha Hari KREESHna". So, hearing his reaction during the attraction was comedy enough for me, because it was just another normal afternoon for us both.

It is still the same but cheesy. I remember going on AE when it first came out. The hype was full of warnings about how terrifying it was. I went on it with my 14 to 13 year olds and when its was over we were laughing at how lame it was. My youngest was too afriad to go on it with us so as we came out my daughter was acting like she had seen the devil as a joke. We all had a good laugh and haven't been back.

None of my Krewe like it ---------- it's just NOT fun or entertaining in any way - in our opinion. IF there is NO line, go ahead and do it - then you'll be able to decide for yourself........ IF there is a line - I say skip it!!!

I agree with the OP who said it's PRIME real estate that could be MUCH better used!!!! :thumbsup2

Just look at the number of people who have answers like this:

  • kids exit in tears
  • don't like being locked into a seat in the dark
  • it's not fun

Does this sound like the kind of attraction Walt would have built or approved?

I think that answers the question.

I actually kind of enjoyed AE. I solved the uncomfortable shoulder harness problem by sitting real tall when they were locking them down and that gave me wiggle room.

I think that the makeover just dumbed it down. Plus I never liked the Stitch character or the movie. It just doesn't work for me.

You are locked into your seat with an over the shoulder restraint and the seat itself is highly uncomfortable, actually painful for me. My shoulders, back, and neck were hurting the entire time I was seated. The attraction is also very loud and it gets A LOT louder when all the kids start screaming in fear...And this is coming from an old concert sound engineer. :goodvibes

Aside from what I mentioned above, the attraction is low tech and has a lousy storyline. The original Mission to Mars attraction was more entertaining and that was a cheesy attraction in the 70s.
