What's with the Jesus skywriting?

On a previous vacation we saw him write "DON'T REFILL OLD MUGS!" over some of the Disney Resorts.

Here is the proof!

that is just not right....

I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee sprucing up for my soon to be trip and wham, coffee out the nose, all over the keyboard, the screen, everything....

Just so we're clear... according to your book of beliefs your deity is omnipotent (can do anything), and one day he decided to tell one of his prophets (not all of his people, just one prophet) to tell his people to slaughter (probably hack to death) all Amalekite men, women, children, and infants... as revenge for something the Amalekites' great great great great (insert many more "great"s here) granparents did. And you consider your god a Good being?

Guess we have different definitions of "Good."

That's not the worst of it. Your eternity will be spent in an awful place unless you place your belief in something unprovable. Some ego this god has.

I believe the most effective way is to live the transformed life the Bible talks about in Roman's 12 (see excerpt below). Merely telling people about Jesus isn't nearly as effective as living a life that is different, that people admire, that people want to have. That goes for both the real world, as well as the world of the DIS.

Look, I'm not saying that people shouldn't use the DIS as a means of expressing their faith. Many Christians do, and in ways that attract other to Christ. But some of you are doing so in a manner that is counter productive. If I can use you (Joyce) as an example (and I hope this doesn't come across as picking on you) but once you start getting into an argument about who is being more rude, you've lost any chance to witness to that person. Once you use your faith as a snappy comeback, there's no chance of the message reaching anyone.

Furthermore, you can't push your Faith on people. No skywriting, sticking tracks under windshields, etc. That pushes people away more than drawing them in. What does draw people is in that transformed life. Showing that Christianity isn't about where you spend Sunday mornings or having a get-out-of-heck-free card. It's about a life that isn't of this world, but is transformed into something better.

Romans 12:

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God

9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Can you just image what the world would be like if everyone that claimed to be a Christina lived their life this way?

And I do live that life, I know words are not enough, but neither are works. I have not attacked anyone for what they believe, I have tried to share what I believe. I have not told anyone not to post because I do not like what they have to say. Everyone who claims to be a Christian of course is not. The word is used loosely these days. God can judge, I will not. It is hard for me to understand someone who loves Jesus and all He stands for would be offended by the skywriter's message. I can understand if you are against pollution and maybe even questioning the $$ spent, but as Christians, we value humanity so much that the money does not matter. If one person is touched it is $$ well spent. I have not intended to hurt anyone or even offend anyone, I have truly tried to be kind, no name calling, just want equal rights.

gosh darnit that was a fresh cup of coffee.....

Those pics are funny :)

But the sucky aspect is that such long messages are now possible (see pics at sky(dash)writing.com), and can probably be repeated easily in one flight. Hopefuly the cost will stay super-prohibitive forever, so we never have to see "SHOULDA GONE TO UNIVERSAL" repeated over and over in the sky above the MK... along with "DRINK COKE" ..."SUPERCUTS"... "FOXNEWS"... "VOTE FOR JOEBOB"... "I WANT MY MTV"..."SONY"... "WONDERBRA" ..."BUDWEISER"..."TACO BELL 4EVER"...et cetera ad nauseum*.

*At least 3 of these have been done for real in the sky somewhere, according to the site.

Jesus is not abrasive.

au contraire! a little French lingo there...

Matthew 10

34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—
36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

Matthew 16

21From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"

23Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

Matthew 25

31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

And how about this bit of political correctness:

John 4

16 “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her.

17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.

Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband—18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”

If I could create the universe I'd probably have a pretty big ego too.

Seems awfully petty for the all-powerful.

When or if you had a child, don't you expect them to obey and do what you say? Right. Same with a God that creates a species. In my opinion.

Sorry, I've never heard from any god. I don't count old books as directives... sorry.

I'm just saying along the lines of your earlier premise. If there is a supreme being, we've searched the four corners of the Earth for a possible message from him, thus the Bible, with directions as to how to lead our lives. Proof that its from the one true God, no I can't prove it, but its all we have.

The way I look at it is this. We better HOPE its all true, cause what's the alternative we die and that's it, eternal nothingness? That's not a pleasant thought at all.

There are other options though

Therin lies the base of all religion, as far as I'm concerned. You (general) are scared that when you die, that's it. So the writings in this magical book give you hope that there is something after it. Personally, I imagine that when you die, it's over, but that's just me. Why would you want to hang around for eternity anyways?

Not mine...There is no set belief in the afterlife in Judaism..You will get varied opinions on what happens when we die..Anything from the gig is up and that's it, to reincarnation, to eventual ressurection...There is also no eternal damnation in Judaism

Yes you are right. The big HOPE is that we won't continue with this life on this nasty little planet but move on to bigger and better things. You are right it is just a hope, but that's all we got. The alternative is horrible to me. Ceasing to exist? You like that alternative? I don't. Its the natural tendency of all living things to want to perpetuate their existence. Thus the natural tendency for us not to want to die.

I accept that, at least right now. You're so afraid that that is it that you spend your entire life grasping at whatever sounds like it makes sense. So here's a promise by a book that says if you do this and that, you'll end up lieing on a beach with endless Margaritas, for ever and ever. (That's you in the general sense).
