What's with the Jesus skywriting?

I accept that, at least right now. You're so afraid that that is it that you spend your entire life grasping at whatever sounds like it makes sense. So here's a promise by a book that says if you do this and that, you'll end up lieing on a beach with endless Margaritas, for ever and ever. (That's you in the general sense).
Well that's not my idea of heaven..My heaven would be books with all of the answers to all of the question.. I'd just sit there and read them..Ok,Maybe reading them with a Margarita in hand would not be so bad.

When or if you had a child, don't you expect them to obey and do what you say? Right.

Would you hack them up (or alternatively have your followers do the slaughter), including day-old infants and pregnant women, for something that their greatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreat(insert many more "great"s) grandparents did to your followers?

Is this something any omnipotent and "Good" being would do?

No not exactly but kinda close. Its like this. Looking at the BIG picture. What are we? Humans? Just an animal. The most sophisticated one on our planet but an animal none the less right? I mean we have teeth like other animals, our bodies are similar, we have organs like other animals etc etc. We are on this planet right? In my opinion life on this planet ain't the greatest. I mean my life is OK, I have a great family friends etc., but in the grand scheme of things, life as a human in my opinion generally sucks.

We live for what 70-90 years or so. So thats it? Life as a human on this miserable little planet full of hostility, war, disease, famine etc. I certainly HOPE not. I hope that God has put us here as kinda an initial test. If we pass the test as OK this human is a good spirit, he can go on to the next life thats much more fulfilling. Kind of like we have laws, you obey the laws you don't go to jail. You obey God's laws you get to go on and not get "locked" up. Anyway thats the HOPE. Can I prove it no, but I hope its true, otherwise its what you say we die and thats it. That's kinda it in a nutshell.

No I don't think God does that either. I'm not sure where this is coming from.

God gave us a magnificent planet. Humans screwed it up.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I love this planet.

Think about it. We USAers live in a great society with AC, houses, running water, electricity, fast food, all the conveniences of life. What if you lived in Afghanistan or in the AMazon. Your dealing with warring factions that may kill you or your family or worse. Bugs insects, mosquitos etc., constantly attacking you. Life is a struggle just to find food and water enough to live, let alone anything that tastes good. Pleasant planet? For rich westerners maybe, everyone else, not really. That's just my opinion.

You're right to a certain degree, but its the whole Survivor thing. What if you were on a deserted island with NO modern conveniences, struggling just to make fire and boil water and scratch for enough fish and pineapples to exist. Pleasant thought, not at all. We manage to put all of this out of mind because we are fortunate to live in the good ole USA. Life hangs by a thread. One little change in circumstances and your living in a S#$% hole. Excuse my language.

I don't know. It just might beat life in a cubicle with a pointy haired boss dumber than my cat. :confused3 ;)

And I'd rather have this? :confused3

I'm just saying along the lines of your earlier premise. If there is a supreme being, we've searched the four corners of the Earth for a possible message from him, thus the Bible, with directions as to how to lead our lives. Proof that its from the one true God, no I can't prove it, but its all we have.

The way I look at it is this. We better HOPE its all true, cause what's the alternative we die and that's it, eternal nothingness? That's not a pleasant thought at all.

And there are no other sacred books that claim to be divinely inspired? There are no Hebrew writings that were left out of the bible? Heck, even different bibles have different books- the Catholic bible contains 2 books that the King James does not.
So no, the bible is not all we have.

Sorry, I thought you were a follower of the "God of Abraham" (the creator-deity in The Bible). If you were, you would have to believe that your god did that sort of thing, because the "God of Abraham" commands that sort of "Slaughter-them-all" thing repeatedly in the book about him, mainly in the Old Testament.

This "God of Abraham", according to the book, has his followers kill everyone --- men, women, and children --- in Sihon. Deuteronomy 2:33-35

Same thing in Bashan. Deut. 3:6-7
Same thing in Jericho. Joshua 6:21
Same thing in Ai. Joshua 8:22-25
Same thing in Makkada. Joshua 10:28
Same thing in Libna. Joshua 10:30
Same thing in Lachish. Joshua 10:32-33
Same thing in Eglon. Joshua 10:34-35

Et cetera, ad nauseum.

And don't forget god sending she-bears to tear apart CHILDREN who dared to make fun of one of his prophets:

(2 Kings 2:23-25)

23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!” 24 When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number. 25 And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

I don't care what the message is - if it shows up in my photos - I am going to be mad.

I'd be looking for Jeff Probst, to beat him up and steal his boat. ;)

As for God helping those who help themselves, there is no mention of this concept in the Bible.

Just to clarify - I never said this concept was in the bible. This is my concept. To me, God would be more likely to reward people try to better themselves or find a way to overcome bad times on their own power instead of just sitting around asking God to do all the work. Just seriously ticks me off when I see people sitting on their backends saying God will provide when they are capable of providing for themselves. Just my opinion
