whats the thrill with pool hopping?

Am new to DVC, but here's my 2 cents. I make a concentrated effort to get a room as close to the resort pool as possible so we don't have to walk too far to get there. I can't imagine packing up my stuff and kids to take a bus to use another resorts pool. Who knows though maybe DVC will change me.

I can understand, and we never thought we would do it, but VWL's villa pool was being restored. We had the car seats for the kids and a rental car, so I made 2 trips each way to POR. We had a great morning...5 adults, 3 DGC! There is a clean locker/shower room close to the pool, and the stuffed french toast at Boatwrights was the special enticement for me! POR's pool has lots of fun "extras."

On the contrary, DVC members can pool hop to NON-DVC resort pools, but NOT to some of the DVC pools like at BC or AKV.

Yes, the only pool that we have pool hopped to was to the one at PO Riverside. It's a great pool, and we enjoy breakfast at Boatwrights! There's a wonderful fishing hole there that we're going to use someday too!

Thank you!!:goodvibes That's really good to know!

I agree with you on the POR pool, bobbiwoz. We stayed at POR for one night last Sept. before moving to VWL. My kids had a great time at the POR pool. They enjoyed the fishing hole also. We spent the time between checking out of POR and checking into the VWL, fishing and swimming. :thumbsup2

I have wanted to check out the Coronado Springs pool. But since we are a family of 5, that would mean getting two rooms or a junior suite. Now that I know we can hop to the pool, I'll save some $$$.:rotfl:

We love pool hopping! We are not everyday park people so this is one of our favorite things to do at wdw. My favorite is BWV- you can make a fun day of swimming and walking around on the boardwalk.

my kids REALLY wanted to try the clown slide and pool, and the idea of packing up 3 wet kids does not appeal to me--so we decided to "resort hop" and stay at BWV the last day--plus, it's almost 4th of July week and I was afraid pool hopping could be blacked out. Elaine (ps-yes, I know I might be roomless until 4 PM--but AM pool, lunch, and a few hours at the Community Hall will take up the day).

And we can't pool hop over to the Swan and Dolphin pools. The Grotto pool is nice, but it gets very crowded. We have stayed at the S/D once each and used the pool then.

For us, one of the attractions of our hop to the Poly was that we are extending our trip next time with a cash night somewhere. We enjoy the Poly, my husband has never stayed there, but a trip for us normally involves breakfast at Ohana or dinner at Kona (or both). This gave the kids a chance to try the pool and my husband a chance to get a feel for the resort.

I really want to take time to hop over to POR - I've walked that resort and love the atmosphere and - although I've never stayed there - its my normal recommendation to people looking for a moderate.

I think pool hopping allows you to get a flavor of some of your favorite resorts, without needing to invest in a night there. I've stayed at the Poly (though before the Volcano Pool) and spending time there has a sentimental quality to me. And I know I'm not the only DVCer sentimental about a non-DVC resort.

I think you are right, crisi. My husband just had to stay at the GF and it was very nice. I thought the non-themed pool was much better than the bigger, newer themed pool. I like the Contemporary and they have two very average pools that are just fine for me. We both like Coronado Springs and the Dig Site is very nice (so is the leisure pool over in the Casitas).

I guess we've viewed Old Key West more as a second home than as a base for hitting the parks. We love the parks but would always have annual passes and just go to the parks when we wanted to and certainly not every day. We like going to the Polynesian because we the water mice (or whatever they're called these days) are faster there and it's a much bigger lake and we love having lunch at Kona Café. We go to Riverside to eat at Boatwrights and enjoy the fantastic playground along with the pool. We also like the urban feel of the Contemporary pool.

We found while staying at WL it was easy to hop the boat and monerail to POLY or GF.
