What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

the Exorcist! 5 minutes of it gave me nightmares for 6 months... I will NOT watch it even though hubby has begged me to watch it with him.. and we own it too, much to my dismay(its his..I wont have a thing to do with it)Other than that..most horror movies don't bother me.

I can't even hear the music from it. I never saw it, never will...the commercials freaked me out and I TRIED to read the book way back when and I have to tell you I had to stop....too many wierd things happened to me around then and I tied it all to the book. My kids have seent he movie and it doesn't faze them at all.

I think it was for sure "The Exorcist." Every time they headed for that kid's
room, I just cringed!

I forgot about Phantasm - probably because it was so scary, I turned it off!
It was on cable so I wasn't a captive audience!

Remember the scene in the Brady Bunch when they were in a cave in Hawaii and somebody was following the kids? That's about as suspenseful as I can handle.

The Shining, Jacob's Ladder and Dawn of the Dead are 3 others that stayed with me as scary, really scary.

The Shining. I've seen it no less than 25 times. Scares the daylights out of me every time.

I can do a mean "redrum" impression, though.

Phantasm scared me to death ... but psychological thrillers are scary to me now, ones that you know real people like that are out there..... popcorn::

Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, The Fog (way long ago in middle school), Children of the Corn.

Oh yeah, Halloween. I never was a babysitter just because of that movie!!

The Exorcist! The only movie that has ever truly freaked me out!

Just watched the Exorcist yesterday as a matter of fact. It is by far and away the scariest movie of all time. Maybe because it is supposed to be true! I remember when the book came out Merv Griffin used to be on at 11:30 pm opposite Johnny Carson. I was in jr. high but it was summer so I stayed up late. They had William Peter Blatty on as well as a whole group of priests two of whom had been in the movie. Let me tell you I was petrified just listening to these guys. I could not go upstairs when it was over. Then I read the book and had to sleep on the floor of my parents room for a week!! The movie is really scary but no where near as scary as the book! IMHO.

I saw Phantasm as a kid and it scared the crap out of me. I wonder if I saw it now, would it have the same effect? Probably. Deliverence also was terrifying for me. My aunt lived down in the bayou of Louisiana at the time and my older cousins told me that's what the people were like. At the time, though, I believed them. I think I was exposed to all my scary movie experiences by mean older cousins. :)

I love that whole series (I love to be scared)but for sheer shock and terror CARRIE takes the cake ,when that hand popped up I hit the roof(I was twelve and saw it on the big screen). My brother had already seen it so he was sitting behind me, just at the right time he grabbed my shoulder........I wonder if the guy who was sitting in front of me ever got the goobers and soda out of his hair? :rotfl2: :lmao:

I don't know if it was the scariest ever, but The Exorcist scared me the most. I don't know what she was thinking (well, obviously she wasn't thinking at all), but my mother took me to see it in the theater when it was first released. I was all of 6 or 7 (Google says it was made in '73).

I do not recommend it for that age child, LOL, and definitely not on the big screen at that age. :lmao:

I do love horror movies though, so the damage must not have been life long.

Hands down it is the original "Halloween" for me. Holy crap, that movie is haunting and the music, well, it makes me want to bury my head under the pillow and think happy thoughts. Every once in a while someone might suggest seeing a horror movie, and I just say "No thanks, I'll save the $10 and just think of the movie Halloween if I want to get the bejeebers scared out of me". LOL.

Has anyone seen Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon? I thought that was pretty creepy.

I watched Halloween at home by myself for the first time and I was scared poopless! I was already in my early 20's but the whole thing was just too scary for me. I love horror movies though, I grew up watching Friday Night Fright Night on channel 7 (for all those older WNY'ers out there). Black and white horror movies...some of them were really scary.
