THanks to lifting weights the wrong way over many years, both my shoulders are impinged.. along with Rotator Cuff damage. So any really hard pressure might not be what I am looking for!

The have a # of massages offered (Swedish, Stone, etc ) so I am hoping someone can let me know which--if any--might be suitable!

Swedish is probably the most gentle, but when you go to your appointment you need to tell the masseuse about your injuries. They will work around any injury you have. During your treatment don't be afraid to tell them if they are applying too much/little pressure. I love hot stone massages because the heat along with the massage really helps relieve my aching muscles.

Another word of advice....

If you don't want the product sales pitch at the end, let the receptionist know when you check in.

Agree. Tell your masseuse of your injuries and concerns. They can modify their pressure, technique, and coverage based on your requirements. I had foot surgery last year. At my next two massages, I warned them away from the foot the first time, and then on the second visit said they could work on the foot, but to be careful of the incision. Most will ask you what pressure you prefer. I go with "medium" and then after they start ask them to increase or decrease the pressure as necessary. (And, being a guy I usually don't get the sales pitch at the end!)

i've tried the massages onboard 3 times and they are not for me, i don't enjoy the sales pitch and i've not really found them to be great massages. if you are not looking for a therapeutic massage but more the "experience" and are immune to the sales pitch and don't mind paying 2x land prices for a not as good (in my experience) massage, have at it. the best one i had actually was the first one i did, in the massage cabanas on serenity beach - really lovely setting, although the next time i tried that there were drunk yahoo passengers hooting around outside, as is their right... :)

overall, i think if it is in your budget and your concern is towards lighter pressure (not firmer), you may enjoy it!

I don't like a lot of pressure with massages either. The hot stone is my favorite and if they get too hard, I just tell them. They are very polite.

The sales pitch at the end IS a drag. $300+ for some neck firming cream is a real doozie...esp. if they find out they are talking to a cosmetic plastic surgeon....i just roll my eyes on the inside, thank them amd say no.....

I agree that they are way overpriced, but I still go sometimes. I pay $110 plus tip for a 90 minute hot stone massage at home. On the ship it is $190 for 75 minutes plus the automatic 18% gratuity.

Hmm. I agree with the advice on choosing a Swedish massage and right up front telling your therapist about your shoulders. I disagree about the quality of services. I am a spa junkie and have always had very good spa services at the DCL spas. Are they as cheap as I can get at home? Uh, NO. Wonder why? (LOL, that pun was unintended, but I like it!) Because you're not at HOME!!! This is a ship with a lovely spa. If you go to a high end resort I can pretty much promise you won't be getting a service as cheaply as you can at home. A little day spa at home or at your salon doesn't need to charge as much. Fact is, they could not charge as much.

As for the sales pitch. All you need do is pucker up those lips and sweetly and firmly say, "No thanks". It's good practice for those hawkers at those Caribbean ports of call! :p
