What's the longest stay you've ever had at a WDW resort?

We did 10 days at POFQ, but I'm sure some have stayed longer, epsecially with DVC. The kitchen would be great for long stays. And laundry? Yep, I could just move in.


(My retirement dream is to have enough points to stay on property for all of January and February. I don't need to live there forever...just to escape the worst part of winter.)

Well, my longest stay was about 11 nights, back when our DD was younger and in one of those year round schools. She had a 3 week break, so we drove down and stayed at one of the All Stars. It was in September, so it was not so crowded, and the room rates you couldnt beat. I think like $75 per night. While I do love my DVC and wouldnt trade it for the world, those weekend points darn near kill ya. I would think one would need about 500 or more points per year to stay 2 weeks. Looking back on that trip, I think we originally were planning on staying like 8 nights, but we kept adding time because we didnt want to leave. We had a few days not at the parks where we looked around or went off site for meals. It was great. Talking to people from the UK, they are almost always there 2 weeks or more.

We did 15 nights back in 2001, about a week after Sept 11th, at AKL. A "2nd honeymoon" of sorts for my wife and I. We were supposed to fly, but elected to drive (for obvious reasons). I remember the airline (Delta) was SO nice about refunding our tickets...not even as a "credit for future travel" but as an actual refund. We left 2 days earlier than originally planned, made it in 22 hours, still a day early, walked into one of the resorts near DTD at about 5 PM (I think it was the Wyndham?) and got a tower room, overlooking DTD, for....$50 for the night. The lady at the front desk said that their cancellation rate was so high that about 80% of the hotel was empty. Our nightly rate was about 1/3 the rate the room was supposed to go for.

We checked into AKL the next day. Likewise, practically empty. Room as soon as we checked in (9 or 10 AM, maybe).

WDW, as a whole, was practically EMPTY...as was Universal and IOA, when we went. We had pretty much "gold glove" service the entire time we were there.

We've had a LOT of great trips to WDW, but this ranks as our favorite. Maybe because it was so empty, maybe because it was a bit of a bright spot in an otherwise VERY stressful time for us (and everyone else), or maybe because EVERYTHING went as absolutely perfectly as you could imagine. Or maybe all of the above. But it also carries just that tinge of sadness with it, ya know?

Someday, I want to take our kids down for that kind of extended trip. We've done 9 and 10 nights with them...but that's about all they can handle (even at Disney) away from home. By that last night, they're jonesing for their own beds...

We were there at the exact same time! It was like a ghost town. When have you ever been to WDW or US and had them ask,'Wanna go again?" without even getting off the ride. It was quite eery. We also had a flight planned on Delta, and they refunded us as well. I will tell you, those days are over, we were in Fla. in 2004 for Hurricane Charley, people were scrambling in Sarasota to evacuate, we called our airline to ask about changing departure airports, since we were departing from Tampa. We ended up in Orlando, which endured more of the hurricane than Tampa did and the airport too! What a trip! I remember writing a letter to George W from CBR, saying we were on vacation, because of his speech after 911, he said, go out, go on vacation, go to Disney World! Well, we did. But I never heard back from him. lol

This winter we stayed for 1 week in an ovr at VB, followed by 29 days in a studio at SSR and then another 1 week in an ovr at VB. It is nice to escape some of Wisconsin's winter.

Our longest will soon be here. Spending 26 nights at AKL Concierge, Boardwalk, Vero Beach, and Beach Club, followed by 5 at Royal Pacific at Universal Studios. Can't wait!!!!

Yeah, it was surreal. We didn't wait for ANYTHING more than...say..10 minutes at WDW, and even those were rare. Everything at IOA and US was a walk on...and things like Dueling Dragons, we would disembark and get back in the "re-ride" line...and be right back on the other coaster.

And we've had similar experiences AFTER, with airlines, too. Getting a CREDIT is like pulling teeth, and a refund? I think the CS rep would laugh in my face....

One thing I remember after the Hurricane was going to 1900 Park Faire for breakfast. Because of the hurricane the day before, they were running on generators and using paper plates, etc. They adjusted the price of the meal by a lot, I cannot recall exactly how much. Well, anyway, I saw a man ripping into the restaurant manager because his daughter wanted to see characters and there werent any!!! The manager calmly told him due to the hurricane, some CMs were home taking care of damage, while other CMs were better suited at the parks. THis man would not hear of any of that. His daugher waited all week to see these characters,and she would be very disappointed.(mind you the girl was barely 3 years old, and seemed to care less) This man was relentless. Anyway.. I was apalled and said out loud, because the manager couldn`t," He should be ashamed of himself carrying on like that, doesn`t he see the severity of this storm? We`re lucky this is even open at all. Some people are jerks!" I know he heard me and I am glad. I wish I had gone straight up to him now when I think about it. I am happy everything was ok. There was a palm tree on a car like 3 cars away from us in the parking lot. It was crazy, wasn`t it?

Our longest stay was 12 nights, piddly compared to some on this thread! lol
It was the trip when we decided to become DVC members, we weren't staying at any DVC resorts though. It was 6 nights at POFQ and 6 at AKL.

We probably won't go longer than that for a long time, if ever, unfortunately.

& delta was great ~ rescheduled our 9/12 flight out of JFK to the first day they were flying again.
WDW was surreal....being the only people in world showcase, waitstaff outside the restaurants, begging us to come in, going on any ride we wanted over & over again. it was just too eerily quiet.
we've been at WDW during, before & after a few hurricanes, but have never seen anything like that (& despite our adversion to crowds, hope never to again).

The longest we have stayed was 13 days in a standard view studio at the Boardwalk and that didn't even use all of our measly 150 points!

& delta was great ~ rescheduled our 9/12 flight out of JFK to the first day they were flying again.
WDW was surreal....being the only people in world showcase, waitstaff outside the restaurants, begging us to come in, going on any ride we wanted over & over again. it was just too eerily quiet.
we've been at WDW during, before & after a few hurricanes, but have never seen anything like that (& despite our adversion to crowds, hope never to again).

I remember eating dinner at Le Cellier one night during our trip. 5 PM-ish. There were exactly 2 other tables with people seated.

I've NEVER walked into that place, even for an early lunch or dinner, and not seen it 3/4 full.

Crazy.

On the subject of "long trips", we're now planning our 2011 trip (we won't be back for calender year 2010, due to timing issues and work) and it's looking like we might turn in another jumbo trip....possibly as long as 16-17 days.

I think (like the hotels) it's somewhere around 30...

I remember (and it could be urban legend) that the limit is in place so that no one can ever stay long enough to declare permanent residency on the property.
