What's the deal with all of the scooters?

ECV drivers are just as much to blame as walking guests most of the time.

IMO, strollers are a much bigger problem than ECV's. The size and amount of them is staggering. They clog walkways, take up tons of real estate for "stroller parking" and are used as battering rams more often than not.

I would say it's probably 50/50, too. People think they can walk in front of an ECV and that it can stop on a dime, and some Mario Andretti ECV drivers think if they see an open pathway they can zoom down it as fast as it'll go. (Well my dad did until I yelled at him LOL).

OP, I understand your frustration, however many many disabilities are invisible. I could qualify and truly could use a scooter or wheelchair while in Disney, but I do not because most people would never look at me and see what lies beneath the skin. I am not going to share my heath issues, but I have a lot of them for my young age and while I look healthy on the outside, I hurt from them on the inside.

I have encountered people in real life who have used them simply because they are overweight and lazy....those people give a bad name to those who truly need them. There are many more people in Disney who genuinely need their scooter than those who use them just so that they do not have to walk. Getting out of the wheelchair to go into the bathroom or in an attraction doesn't mean they don't need it. People with MS or arthritic knees are still capable of walking in most cases; just not all day.

Nevermind asking about pool hopping, somebody start a thread about kids blowing bubbles while standing in line.

Wait...that's a THING? There's bubble wank? (We are talking soap bubbles and not gum, right?) Oh, please, some elaborate on this for endless, endless reading enjoyment! :rotfl:

Living near WDW, we frequent Epcot. One day this past summer while strolling around World Showcase there was a group of about 30, in age range from 30 to 40's and each one had a scooter! They we driving them as fast as they would go, all trying to stay together, with beer, wine, etc., and some had little more to drink than they should have. These folks did not need scooters, they were just drinking there way around the world without having to walk. They didn't care about anyone around and expected everyone to get out of their way. Not all people use a scooter for medical reasons, as this group did not. The group was just out to have a good time, but no consideration for everyone else around. Just because your on a scooter doesn't give you the right of way!

Rumor has it that some people poo-poo the idea of children using the bubble blowers. I don't have a link to any threads though.

Their are jerks in every category: People who push strollers can be jerks. People who are walking along can be jerks. I've been blocked while walking by others who were walking than I have been by people in scooters.

We all could probably stand to be a little more aware when at WDW.

Nothing against scooters, but the infrastructure at Disney Parks was not designed to handle large numbers of people, strollers and scooters. The streets and walkways needed to be twice as wide. I guess the people just have to go.

Apparently some folks and/or their children are incredibly allergic to bubbles. So, giving your child a bubble wand to amuse them while in line is putting these folks at risk of blisters or rashes, since they can't move away to a safe distance.

I didn't know, either, but there you go! You learn something new every day.

Bubble responsibly, folks!

For your reading pleasure. :) This isn't the most recent thread - just the first I found with google.

As a stroller user, I've had the same problems with pedestrians that scooters drivers have. I know some people with strollers act like they're on a jogging trail or running a race. I don't, but it's not like strollers stop on a dime. I can't tell you how many times I've clipped someone who stopped right in front of me or dodged in close to get through a line. People in general seem to be oblivious about the world around them. It's worse at Disney because there are so many shiny things to distract the squirrels.

And double dipping

After taking her teenage son into the ladies room.

Just spotted at MK....a legally blind granny riding a scooter ( I know because she was yelling as she ran over a few ppl, " sorry, I'm legally blind")with two children riding on her lap holding bubble guns and wearing, wait for it....Universal studios shirts. There was a woman following them with a triple wide stroller and she was holding a big bag that read..."expired KTTW" the 3 kids in the stroller had to be holding at least 10 FP- each. She was trying to keep up with granny, but granny was going about 20mph. She sure was clearing the road though. And yes they had MBs. Can you believe it?

people need to look where they are going and STOP blaming guests on scooters

Look where they are going? Anyone who has been to a Disney Park realizes this statement is ludicrous. It is chaos, pure chaos in these parks. 10,000 families of 4+ all trying to get somewhere, all doing so while looking at a map, a ride line, and trying to herd children. Maybe we should all just get out of the scooters way at all times, brace the wall when one approaches?

I have no doubt that many, even a majority of these scooters carry someone who is legit. I also have no doubt that many of them are not legit - in that the ailment suffered by the rider is tantamount to being lazy or not wanting sore feet. Well welcome to the "Disney is a lot of walking" club. My wife and I brought pedometers last time, we each walked an equivalent of a marathon over 8 days in the parks. 27+ miles of walking - and thank god we did because being on the DDP you really pack away the calories. Many of these are the same people that take the elevator up to the second floor and do so because they sweat when they walk - here's a tip... if you took the stairs more often then you wouldn’t get winded when taking the stairs.

The priority that Disney gives these scooters is at the very least irritating. Having to wait for multiple buses while the scooters, that got to the bus stop well after you gets boarded along with their party of 10 strap hangers is ridiculous. All the while having exhausted kids (and parents) sit there and watch and wonder why these people are more important than the ones who walked all day.

Don’t get me started about the RUDE carts and the one that ran in to my 8 year old.....

Were the kids in the stroller all over the age of ten?

I've only witnessed one negative event involving someone in a scooter.

This past October, my wife and I were sitting on one of the metal benches in Tomorrowland. There was a woman with a sleeping baby sitting on a bench positioned perpendicular to ours. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone go by on a scooter. Then I heard a loud BANG. I looked over and the woman driving the scooter had slammed into the end of the other bench. The baby woke up and started screaming. The woman on the scooter said "Sorry" and drove off.

Oh yes! Blowing bubbles, especially with one of the battery operated ones while standing in line is always makes for a good thread.

Get behind them and take advantage of the plowed road!

Great idea! Move aside sonny, hot wheels coming through!

Was she wearing a jacket that said "Hell's Grannies" on the back?
