What's in YOUR owner's locker?

I read somewhere (can't remember if it was here or on OL boards) about someone who took the Brita pitcher filter out one day before departure to let it dry out and then packed it in an open ziplock bag in the locker. I put my filter in a ziplock, but don't know what condition it'll be in when I see it again in 2 weeks. I do have extras in the OL.

Never having used a water filter of any kind before, I'm curious what the issue is about storing the filters. I've bought the faucet-mounted type for my OL since my DS insists on filtered water. What do I need to know about storing the filter when we leave?

When I saw that someone stored a Brita pitcher, I was amazed. For what I understand, the filters become useless if they dry out. This is why the instructions tell you to ensure the water level is above the bottom of the filter. You might as well chuck the filter at the end of your trip, and suffer the 6.99 or so price to replace it. Otherwise, you are getting little benefit from the filter. Better off getting one of those LifeSaver Bottles. http://www.lifesaverusa.com/?gclid=CPnvsLqcgJYCFQyI1QodJhzgEw

The other item being listed that intrigues me is coffee. Does the coffee go stale? I am not a big coffee drinker. Unless you take into account ice coffee. Which we brew at home.

This is amazing that I have not come across this earlier. I am working out a plan to sell this idea to the DW in the am. Well it's the am now, later in the am.

Back when I was testing the concept for Owner's Locker, we just put a new filter in each trip. I don't really know the answer about what would happen if your filter dried out. I've read where some people have let them dry out and there hasn't been a problem. I really hate ice cubes made with central Florida water, so I wouldn't want to waste any gin testing out whether it's OK to use the filters after they've been dry.

As for things like toothpaste expiring, we never had a problem with toothpaste, shampoo or things like that. Keep in mind that we're climate controlled so that will help a lot. Perhaps I'm just not too finicky but I assume that if the government doesn't require them to put an expiration date on it, I don't need to worry.

The water filter we have is a faucet mounted one. I does anyone know if there is an issue with those? I always assumed it should dry out between uses.

I skimmed most of the lists and saw a lot of what we have in our locker.

Something I didn't see...Aero bed. I have a twin in there for when we stay in a 1BR. Then the kids aren't sharing the sofa bed. Both like to spread out when they sleep and then there are arguments over who's kicking who.

I didn't pack very well my first time, so in October, I'm going to do better.

What I want to add:
My 12" Pampered Chef Skillet and one of my Forged Cutlery knives.

Yes, they have kitchen tools, and yes, I know some people don't cook. I cook in the room sometimes and I'm sorry to say that the cookware in the units are just crap...not just for cooking, but for cleaning, too.

And the knives...don't get me started. I wasted more time cooking because of the tools than anything last time around.

But I totally acknowledge this is personal preference and that I happen to have extras of these items that I can attempt to fit in my locker.

Oh...and I love the term "Pirate stuff"...whoever had that...genius!

I agree about SOME of the kitchen stuff. I will be putting a griddle in there for pancakes.

Oh, and a twin sized aero bed has been on my list too.

I just wanted to thank all of you for the suggestions. I got side tracked from signing up for the locker when my dad passed away suddenly on the 24th. I DID get signed up today though, and I'll be packing some extras to put in my new OL for our trip in January. Since we are also traveling in May, I figure between the two trips, I'll easily fill that thing!

Sorry to hear about your dad... glad to hear though that you got signed up.

We used ours for the first time in June. I was going to make a list of what we put in there, but DS was sick so I forgot. But here's what I remember we put in:

Disney rain ponchos
Hats
Ibuprofen
kids Ibuprofen
Claritan (for DS #2)
Sunscreen
Ziploc bags (gallon, quart and sandwich sizes)
Shampoo/bubble bath (for the boys)
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Sound machine
Lanyards
DVC tote bag

I know we left a couple bottles of water and a few juice boxes, and I think I put tea in there but I can't remember ;). Here's a list of what I want to bring in Dec.:

Water pitcher
reusable water bottles
nightlight
Dishwasher detergent
liquid dish soap
laundry detergent/fabric softener sheets
hand soap
Shampoo for adults
Bandaids/neosporin
Coffee/filters
Sugar/sweetener

I figure after our first trip home (we were at the DTD Hilton in June) we'll have a better idea of what we'll need (and this time I'll be sure to make a list!) :goodvibes

Just reiterating my question about the Brita faucet filters. Anyone know if there is a reason NOT to let THOSE dry out?

I've been looking for this information as well. The best I can find is on the Brita website, in the FAQs. It says: "If your filter hasn't been used for several days, you should let water run through it for 30 seconds before use in order to wet and reactivate the system's filter." This sounds, to me at least, that there isn't a problem with it drying out for even longer.

Thanks! That's what I remembered from the information when we purchased, but I was begining to question that with all the talk about the pitcher filters not drying out.

I bought a Brita this past summer to leave in my make-shift OL. I read in the literature that came with it, that if the filter dries out, you simply go through the process of soaking it, the same as the first time you used it.

A couple of things that I am adding to mine because I have found the ones in the units unacceptable:

vegetable pealer
spatula (for flippin' pancakes)
wire whisk (for stirrin' that pancake batter)

I think I could gnaw on my potatoes like a beaver better than the pealers that I have repeatedly come across in the units.
This last week I had to turn pancakes with the "spatula" that was in the room. It was slightly rounded, had holes in it like a strainer. I checked the whole inventory in the kitchen and this was the ONLY thing left that I didn't check off for the definition "1 spatula". Now turning pancakes with a rounded spatula or a slightly flattened spoon...ridiculous!

We also keep various sizes of ziploc baggies and food storage containers.

Oh and a couple of new additions: I bought one of those hanging storage units from Disneyshopping.com (here is the link to see what I'm talking about: http://disneyshopping.go.com/webapp...productId=1230963&langId=-1&categoryId=13360). The ones that have about five little cubbies. This works out great for when everyone comes in the door. They stop, put their hat, lanyard, card key in their cubbie. Then no one has to run around looking for stuff when it's time to go. I hung it from the door stop at the top of the door. But I am also going to put a Command Adhesive hook in there. Easy removal with no damage.

Also, I bought the collapsible food covers from the Disney store (http://disneyshopping.go.com/webapp...productId=1227946&langId=-1&categoryId=14421). I put the smallest one in my box. I flip it over and use it for a snack basket on the counter. It makes packing for the next day so much easier. Plus the cabinet space at SSR is so limited! Everyone goes by, picks out what they want and throws it in their bag. --Anything to make my life easier.

Thanks for the other great ideas! I really like the wireless router one!!

Well lack of counter space is not something we've ever worried about at OKW! I do agree that the spatuals and peelers could be improved. some good ideas!

And here is what is ON my locker--

It will on our next trip. I just added them this week and it was time consuming as they are vinyl and a pain to work with. But next trip I can enjoy my efforts. :thumbsup2 I hope it makes others smile when they see it, too.

Now one more thing........do you all bring this stuff with you, buy somet stuff when you get down there? Do you drive or fly? Thanks

We are driving our first trip so I will fill it then so it will be ready for our next trip.

We have our own "owner's locker" here at home referred to as the Disney Box. Our first visit since joing owner's locker is Christmas and the Disney Box contents will be left in OL. Since we are driving I plan on buying some of the items like soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc. when we get down there.
