What's for Dinner Tonight? (recipe index in OP)

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. DH's grandmother is a very strong woman and she hasn't given up yet. She made it through the night, but more than likely won't make it past Saturday. DH is leaving this morning to visit his twin brother in TX. And then we decided that only he'll go to the funeral in Ohio; just too much to drag both kids along

Don't know WFD tonight. Our church small group is meeting tonight and dinner is provided. But with DH leaving town, don't know if I'll go. Might be takeout otherwise!

Stephanie -- to you and your family

I want to make the lemon spaghetti, but I know DH will "need" meat. Anyone add meat to it, like chicken or shrimp? Or serve meat alongside it?

I think Kathy said you could add shrimp to it.

We are supposed to get a lot of snow here in a couple hours. I am hoping it holds off enough that they don't cancel Caili's show this afternoon. She said she wanted fish and chips for dinner, but I don't think I am going to make it to the store...and I probably don't want to go anyway. I am sure the place is a zoo. Maybe I'll make the lemon spaghetti instead.

Making my grocery list tonight... thanks for any suggestions!

Aimee-Hope it's not too late, but last time I made the lemon spaghetti I served it alongside baked tilapia. I think some lightly sauteed shrimp (garlic, butter) would be good as well.

Kathy- We had the Cajun pork tenderloin last night as well. DH wanted to know what "flavor" it was...he thought it was purchased pre-seasoned! He was impressed when I told him it homemade. It's definitely going in the keeper file. I'll have to remember to team it with black-eyed peas next time - that was a good idea, Aimee!

Glynis- Did you feel anything from the earthquake yesterday? Hope the storytelling weekend is fun!

WFD tonight....shrimp spaghetti.

Hello Everybody-

On tonight's dinner menu is Omama's Chicken Noodle Soup.

What a nice story! I suppose it means I can't ask for the recipe though, right?

Hey all--if you could send some prayers our way we'd appreciate it.

I'm so sorry, I will be thinking of you.

One easy meat addition would be to buy some chicken tenderloins, and marinate them in some lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and thyme. Then just pan saute them and serve them over the pasta...maybe garnish with some parsely. The flavor would work well with the pasta, I think.

Last night I ended up making the sausage-escarole dish that was in Sunday's Boston Globe, and that Mrs. Disney Ron posted here earlier. I made mine with so many changes it bears no resemblance at all to the original! mine had carmelized onions, sliced garlic, escarole, spinach, tomatoes, red pepper flakes, cannelini beans, romano cheese, chicken stock, etc. It was very tasty, and also healthy, with only one tbsp. olive oil in a dish that made four servings.

Here's a picture:

Tonight I am making indian food. Chicken vindaloo, tandoori paneer skewered with onions, red peppers, and tomatoes, and a salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and indian spices. I'm also heating up some roti bread and I have a little bit of the indian spiced chickpeas I made with the banana leaf chicken in my freezer that I am going to thaw out and heat up.

Man, now I'm craving Indian food. There is not an Indian restaurant within 40 minutes of our place! Such a shame. =(

Thanks for the lemon spaghetti suggestions! I will try shrimp or chicken with it.

Tonight is yet another retreat - this time it's for the children's choirs so I don't have to lead anything, but I always go so I can hang with the kids and keep them in control. I also make some mean chocolate chip pancakes for them in the morning! It's our tradition. Last weekend we had a joint retreat with the youth and I let the youth minister do the breakfast and she did bagels. My kids got up and asked her where the chocolate chip pancakes were - LOL!

I really am not a huge creature of comfort BUT it is also my tradition to eat Taco Bueno everytime I have a retreat out there. It's on the way, and you know I adore Taco Bueno. I'm meeting one of the choir directors there at 5pm to eat and then buy all the groceries for the retreat. DH said he'd eat Taco Hell again - he loves that place!

I'm making teriyaki grilled boneless pork chops, jasmine rice, steamed broccoli, and egg rolls for dinner.

I need to go buy DH's nephew a bday gift before I have to pick DS up from school, but my head it just pounding :headache: and I really don't feel like doing anything. Can you become immune to ibuprofen? 'Cuz it aint workin'.

I'm so sorry about your headache =( I think you can build immunity to ibuprofen if you take it often enough. That's my non medical opinion, of course, but I've found that if I take something OTC too often I have to keep increasing the dosage to get a result.

Do you have any other pain relievers at home you can try?

Afternoon Y'all,

Stephanie, So sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother. Prayers for your family. :flower3:

I really appreciate all the Welcome Home's!

Nancy, The fly-over & the before race entertainment was really exciting! Another neat thing was when we were sitting in traffic leaving the track, we were right next to the airport. The number of large private jets flying out was mind boggling! They were just lined up jet after jet taking off! Boy those Nascar boys are making some big money!

Nancy, I don't know if it's this bug I've picked up or trying to keep up with Bob on wheel's running around the track, that has me feeling so bad. That man was so excited to get into the garage & pit areas! He was rushing around that place like a kid in a candy store! But now I'm aching all over & feel like a weigh 1000 lbs!

Lauren, Mario redid the floors in the bedroom while we were gone. He pulled up the carpet, prepped the concrete to have a smooth transition to the travertine in the vanity/bath area. He put down wood floors, redid the base mouldings, installed crown moulding & painted the whole room. The flooring didn't come in on time, he had to go pick it up on Monday at 4:00 pm, work til almost midnight. And had everything finished, in place & clean by the time we came in Tuesday evening! I'll take some pics soon, (if I make the bed first) and post them for you.

Sandy, Have you tried Excedrin for migraines? It's aspirin with caffiene. When I used to get headaches & migraines often, ibuprofen stopped working I switched to the Excedrin. If you don't have that in the house, try aspirin & a coke or cup of coffee.

I still have some of the homemade ravioli Alexis & I made in the freezer. I think that will be dinner, probably with a sauce from a jar. Maybe some kind of fish, if I feel better later.

I think for tonight we will have pizza. Very easy for a Friday night.

Thanks, I think I'll get some Excedrin, since I have to go to the store anyway. I don't drink coke or coffee and I don't have any aspirin. I always take Advil for everything and I probably overdose on it at certain times of the month. It would probably be a good idea to try something different.

Here's some trip pics:

On the track! Bob was so excited to get on the actual track!

We also went to Daytona Beach. There is very large section of the beach that you can still drive on. Surprising that we could put the ramp down & Bob could roll out onto the sand .

More food pics later, my laptop battery is dying.

Making my grocery list tonight... thanks for any suggestions!

I see everyone has made some excellent suggestions. I usually serve it with fish, but shrimp or chicken would both be great!

Not sure WFD...I will come back later. We have snow!!! Andrew does not have school and I got to get Tom moving. He has to plow the driveway before he goes to work (Its about 3 inches and still snowing).

This is Riley's first big snow fall. He LOVES it!

I'm sure A and Riley are both enjoying it, take pics!!;)

Can you become immune to ibuprofen? 'Cuz it aint workin'.

I second the Excedrin for Migraines, just took some myself.

Checking in from Houston, TX!! Our boys are back on the winning track, they kicked butt this morning 18-9. Now tonight's game is supposed to be against the "best" team in the south....and Kyle is pitching.....and I am going to be a wreck in a few hours.....:scared:

Yeh Kyle :cheer2: :cheer2:.

Kathy Give us an update later. Have yourself a short drink to calm your nerves ;)

We're meeting some other parents for a cocktail, or two, or three in about an hour so by gametime(7:30) I should be OK.;) I'll update if it's not too late when we get back tonight.

Any DVC rental pros/experts here? Johnny & I were discussing a possible 4 or 5 day trip maybe in Sept/Oct and I know NOTHING about DVC or renting DVC. From what I hear it's an excellent option. Anyone want to give me a hand when I get back home???:flower3:

Continued good luck! :shamrock:

Sheryl- Now I'm jealous all over again! I love the pic of the three of you on the track, how cool was that, and I can just picture Bob checking everything out, Buddy would forget to breath ;)

Kathy- Yay Kyle! He's going to out pitch them, wait and see! Let us know.

I also would like to know about renting points. It looks complicated but people manage and keep doing it so it seems to be a win-win. I read the stay is about 1/2 price and that is a kicker./

I just watched Recipe Showdown. The Liam's Sisters would fit right in there and I think they could win :thumbsup2

Dinner tonight is beer batter fish fillets, steak fries, clam strips for Marisa and soy mac and cheese for Kady. I have sugar peas and tartar sauce. I made a huge pot of vegetable soup for lunch. I thought Kady would like it becasue yesterday she scraped a bowl of pasta fagiole (ap) clean and especially liked the red and white potatoes. ???????? She was talking about the red and white beans :lmao::lmao::lmao:

This is making me nuts, getting emails 12 hours later.

We are having leftovers. I am still living frugally. Tomorrow I actually have to go to costco to restock essentials, tomato sauce, broth, etc.

Lauren I hope your son is enjoying his snow I sent. We have had plenty thank you.;)

Sorry I have no idea how to rent points. I barely figured how to work my points. Maybe Lori can help.

I am so lost after not keeping up for a couple days...I know I will miss something...I hope all is OK with everyone.

Nancy, Thanks for the floor info! I finally got down om my hands and knees after mopping and dried them thoroughly and they looked beautiful, then it snowed and there are paw prints all over!!! Those darn little paws never seem to get dry...Riley even got a blow dry today! He loves that!

Janice, Thanks for the snow! We had a great time out there. It was good packing snow too and we have a couple snow men on the lawn.

Laura, I was thinking of you earlier...I watched one of my favorite movies, Ice Castles, and it reminded me of you and Caili! I always wanted to figure skate like that.

BTW, I think Tom deserves a great husband of the day award. He ordered me that movie from Netflix knowing it was my favorite...even after knowing that the theme song was my first dance song at my first wedding!!!

Kat, We had your bolognese again tonight...God, I love that stuff!!!

Have a great time...you better check in and let us know how he does...good luck Kyle!!!

I believe you can rent points from another DISer...I think you contact them and they make the ressie for you...I can look into it more.

I have a few points left over but I'd rather use them myself and stalk you!!! ;) Hint, hint...DIS meet!
