What year was the castle cake?

we were there oct 1997 and it was the cake and as far as AK..............

On April 22, 1998 Disney unleashed its newest theme park on the world in the form of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

I remember when AK opened by the "road" that is in that park -- Route 498 -- which represents April 1998 when AK opened.

We were there in July 1997 on our honeymoon!! I remember thinking what the heck is that when we first saw the castle!! It was ugly!!

We were also there the first year AK opened, in Oct 1998.

March 16th, 1997 I arrived for my Honeymoon and what did I find? The Pepto Bismol monstrocity!

We lost a child in 1996 and the kids grandparents took them to Disney in December of 1996 to help them recover.

All the photos they brought back had photos of an ugly pink cake castle!

Funny, during a trip this past October my kids were remembering our first trip which was in Sept 97. They had great memories of the trip and the birthday castle. To my surprise they were asking if the castle would ever be done that way again!

Im amazed at how many people actually dislike the cake theme! I wasn't actually there when the castle was like this but from the pictures; it looks amazing! I like it and I would be fine with it knowing it would be back to normal the following year.

Maybe it looks worse in person?
