What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Because of DD, most people are surprised to learn that I was never married. They are even more surprised to learn that we don't know who DD's father is.

I worked at the same IT organization for 30 years. People who did not know me from the beginning were surprised to learn that I never had any formal IT training. I started doing data entry when I was 17 as a partime job while I was in college (my degree is in education). When I retired, I was a systems manager. I taught myself programing along the way.

That I can play the piano
That I played the flute for 8 years
That I got drunk when I was 14 for the first time, now I can hardly tolerate alcohol
That I have 5 sibs
That I am the only "conventional" person in my family
That I grew up in rural Northern MN (my FIL always says how "worldly" I am)
That I am forgettable
That I don't quit
That I applied to be on a reality TV show

I thought of some more.....

Most people at work who are always commenting on how down to earth and calm I am at being a manager would be very surprised to learn that when I was a younger boss that I would cuss, slam doors, throw large stainless pans from one end of the room to the other(and if it did not make enough noise I would pick it up and do it again) and all sorts of stuff that way.

My dh would be surprised to know I am known as very funny ans amusing at work. He is the "funny' one at home so that side of me never comes out at home.

Most people would be surprised to know that I hate to talk on the phone and will not answer the door if my dh is not at home. They would be surprised to know that my inner self really wants to be one of those people that never leaves the house.

My friends family would be appalled to know that I one starred in a homemade :scared1: adult movie that somehow made its way to video. ::yes:: as I'm a very conservative, quiet person. Ah the younger much more ignorant days.

I sew. Not surprising around here because most of you know that, but in RL very few people know.

That I am a beauty pagent winner and have an IQ of 167

ETA: I can play Mary Had a Little Lamb On any musical Instrument you give me.

I tend to be rather quiet and shy (though I'm overcoming that a bit lately) and I suspect that a lot of people just figure I'm some schmuck who answers phones and lives a quiet life. They seem to be surprised when they find out that I spend a good amount of time very, very close to very fast, very powerful race cars (as a photographer) and that I'm also a tall ship sailor.

All our stories here just go to show that you really can't judge a book by it's cover. You never know what unusual facts and interests might be hiding just out of view.

People that don't know me would be surprised that:

-I dance ballroom and Latin very well. In fact before having kids, me and DH used to go out dancing 4 times a week :faint:

-I can count to 10 in over 20 languages

-I read medical textbooks for fun (ever since I was little).

I think people would be surprised
*that I graduated at the top of my class in college-I was not a very good student in high school.

*I am really shy, I work really hard to seem outgoing.

*I am addicted to reality TV.

*I love Aerosmith.

My students are always suprised to learn that I graduated from a very rough high school. They always wonder how I survived. I usually don't tell them about my temper that matches my hair or the 78 Trans Am that I used to drag race. (and win!) Sometimes I mention that I spent a few of my high school years dressed all in black.
I look like a very shy and studious person, one who would never do anything wrong or stray from the "normal" middle-class life. And for the most part I am.

That I am 41 - I look much younger
I got carded 2 summers ago buying beer in MN
I got carded 4 Christmases ago at a bar in Annapolis MD
I got carded 3 summers ago at a Cheryl Crow conert :teeth:

That I'm almost 21. :) Everyone thinks I'm 14 which can be incredibly annoying. They're always in shock when I say I'm almost 21.

:scratchin Actually, I think it is the other way around.....people who get to know me are surprised to find I am so uncomfortable around strangers and large crowds of people that my face will turn bright red if I am forced to 'publicly speak'. I get kinda loud and I laugh alot around people I know.... :confused3 I've just always been that way!

There is not much about me, I am pretty much an open book and not shy to tell it. One thing is that I have been married for 16 years ( I am 35, and no we did not "have" to get married), that one always surprises people. Also I seem to be the only liberal that I know, so most people assume I am conservative.

People are always surprised that I was the "fat kid" in my family. It's all relative and it was a family joke--both my sisters and I were very thin but while I looked more normal, my sisters looked like they had malnutrition. We all ate a lot and there was no anorexia involved--we were thin kids and we're thin adults.

People are always surprised when I tell them my dd is 15. I'll mention a daughter and when they ask how old she is, they say, "FIFTEEN?? No way!" And, hey, I was 27 when I had her, it's not like I was a teen mom although I can see that going through their heads.

Co-workers are always surprised that I hate speaking in public. I can have a one-on-one or group conversation with anyone. I'm great at small talk but I freeze up when facing a group. I even hate our department meetings when I have to present an item even though I'm good friends with all 30 people in the room. :teeth:

I think you would be surprised to learn I have MS (diagnosed 12.5 years ago while I was pregnant) and that for a while I lost my vision.

I have most of it back now but it there is distortion and I am not permitted to drive. For a long time it was very difficult (especially with a baby/toddler) to get out and about on my own. But I do great now and live life to the fullest as I don't know what tomorrow holds for me. :confused3

I can totally believe that....it is really cool that you embrace you feminine side. :goodvibes

I swim 3 miles a day, paddle and play water polo yet sit on my but here on the dis.

I act sarcastic but usaully allways feel a soft spot for fundraisers.

That I'm (almost) 36.
That I can sing.
That both of my parents are black (I'm very lightskinned--I gave myself a tan in my avatar :teeth: ).
That I have pretty bad vision.
That my DH is younger than me...and white.

People at my church would be very surprised to:
  • see my R-rated DVD collection

  • find out that I love reading about and watching true crime stories on TV

  • know my views on gay marriage (for it)

People that have only spoken to me on the phone sometimes seem surprised to discover that I'm black once they meet me.
