What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Most people are very surprised that I have four kids...
But I think that most people would be surprised if they knew about my geography fetish. I just found out about it myself a few years ago, but I can look at my international geographica book, or a big world atlas for hours at a time, and be totally engrossed.

most people are surprised to find out that
1- I am not from Indiana (although I have no idea where they get that state from) and am Brazilian instead (I'm guessing it's because I am very paleand not the "stereotypical" idea of what people know of Brazilian people..like in carnaval)
2- That I am fluent in 5 languages and can get by on a 6th.

people would be surpised to find out that during college 2 of the jobs i held were:professional clown and singing "torch songs" in gay nightclubs.

this is probably supported by the fact that i am pretty quiet and shy in most social situations, and i'm usualy the one who sings queitly at church services :cutie:

they would also probably be surpised to see a couple of tatoos hiding under my "mom clothes" which i did'nt get until a few years ago (mid-life crisis decision).

change the "curse like a sailor in certain situations" part, to "ALL situations" in my case. :teeth:
But you know the best part about people thinking I'm so conservative and quiet and goody-two-shoes? I can get away with a ton of ahem...crap and no one suspects a thing. :rolleyes1

This is me.

When I was 18 I competed and won the title of Jr. Miss Wheelchair TN :) I traveled and did a lot of public speaking on disability equality and awareness. :)

I have several areas that surprise people, depending on how they know me.

I'm also one of those people who has a low speaking voice, but I sing soprano. Not opera quality, but good enough to solo at church.

Many people are surprised that I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do (not most people here, since it's my screen name!). I'm a size 6 petite person, so I don't fit many people's stereotypes!

And people who meet me outside work are shocked when they find out what I do for a living. I manage the production of a major aviation platform, and back to the description of myself, most people don't see someone who looks like me doing something like that! For a long time, everyone on my team was old enough to be my father (and yes, they were all men too!). I can remember being carded when I asked for a glass of wine at a business dinner. The waitress assumed I was someone's daughter. The guys thought this was hysterical! They just kept saying "She's our BOSS!" Now that I've broken 40, it's not quite so common, but I was in charge of smaller production efforts before I was 30, and I've always looked about 10 years younger than my age.

I am a VERY straightforward person. I tell it like I see it and I expect to be accepted for who I am and if you can't handle that then I walk away.

Most people I know IRL would be surprised to find out that I'm not nearly as thick skinned as I seem.

People are always shocked when they find out I have a tattoo, apparently I come across as far too "posh" for tattoos (as if! :teeth: )...

I am equally adept at killing IRL conversations & killing threads here!

The most things that shocks people when I tell them is I was a volunteer Firefighter for 8 years. They look at me and say yeah right :confused3 .

As far as personality, poeple are surprised when I start conversations in elevators or in the mall with perfect strangers. But then when I am introduced to people I am very shy and quiet.

I seem like a typical boring Mom. DH and I dont really ever go out at night. Im in bed by 9 p.m. And I couldnt tell you the last time I had an alcoholic beverage. But people would be surprised to know that I got drunk for the first time at around age 14. And that in high school I was sent to in school suspension 3 times - once for fighting, once for possession and distribution of firearms and once for possession and distribution of pornographic material.

Also, I am very friendly and can make conversation with anyone. But I am perfectly happy staying at home and I do not like visitors or entertaining. Most people would be surprised that I am as antisocial as I am.

I used to work in a cosmetics store. Everyone there was always suprised to learn that I went to college for engineering.

People are surprised to learn that I am loud and strange most of the time. I always come off as very shy. My friends know the real me, the one who talks all the time and curses up a storm and makes sarcastic comments about everything.

I thought of two more, which are opposites. Some people would be surprised that I don't like confrontation since they see me as someone who will speak up loudly (esp via e-mail) if I don't like things that are going on. This happened one year when my son had a terrible baseball coach (and I mean bad) and last spring when he was ejected from a baseball game (long story). I can go to bat, so to speak, but don't like to.

And other people see me as quiet and non-confrontational and they would be surprised to see me when I'm fighting for what I believe.

Guess that both of those qualities are really me.

People are also surprised that I have 4 children, but mainly because they'd be surprised that anyone has 4 (or more) children.

That's me, too. I can talk to anyone, but when I'm supposed to talk to people I tend to clam up, even though I've gotten much better over the years. If I know someone well I'm not shy at all, but when first meeting I tend to be.

~that I am an accountant...
~that I dated an NFL player for quite a while....
~that I love sports...
~that I was kicked out of Brownies (good thing - I didn't like the color green the Girl Scouts wore)
~that I did my first triathlon 5 months after I had my first child...I haven't done any since having my 2nd!!
~that I love to mix mayo and ketchup to dip my fries in.
~that Van Halen is my all time favorite group - and I am a Sammy lover, I am over Diamond Dave!
~I can change a diaper one handed...
~I love Tinkerbell....
~I am a romantic and love doing goofy romantic things for my dear hubby...

gosh there are lots of things people would be suprised to learn about me, especially my co workers....there is a lot I don't "give out"

The thing that most surprises people is my tastes in music. I've got one of the most eclectic musical collection of anyone I know. Some of my favorite artists (this is just stuff I've been listening to on my playlist this week at work):

Aerosmith
Garth Brooks
Kate Bush
Cannibal Corpse
Counting Crows
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Neil Diamond
Dave Matthews Band
Ben Folds
Guster
Iron Maiden
Jim's Big Ego
Les Miserables soundtrack
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Barry Manilow
Marilyn Manson
Me First & the Gimme Gimmes
Nine Inch Nails
Norah Jones (listening to "Creepin' In" duet w/ Dolly as I type this, just switched over to "Toes")
A Perfect Circle
Pink Floyd
Poets & Slaves
Scorpions
Sex Pistols
Frank Sinatra
Smashing Pumpkins
Superchick
Switchfoot
Van Halen (both w/ Diamond Dave & Van Hagar)
Velvet Revolver

Most people know me as smart, quick witted and educated. They would be surprised to know I didn't graduate high school, I got married and then got my GED. I also appear to be maternal...and I am with my DD, but in actuality, I don't like other people's kids much. I think it started with my brothers children...they are all monsters :scared1: I read about big families traveling to WDW together and I think- NO WAY! The other thing that surprises people is that my DH is older than I. They give me this look, and actually have said, "why did you marry someone so much older?" My quip, because I love him and he's great in bed ;)
