What were you doing 10 years ago to celebrate?

i went to bed early, because we were so worried about the power outage, and in the morning i had promised to help a friend milk cows, by hand if there was no power. Thankfully we had electricity. I dont mine milking a barnful, but not in freezing cold temps and by hand.

I was at home with a cold, so I sat and waited for the world to implode. The irony was that the system on which I worked at the time (AT&T's international cablegram service *snicker* ) was one of the few systems worldwide that actually did exactly what everyone was afraid of. I didn't realize it until the 2nd day in a row I received totally blank reports to deal with (these were reports that detailed the amount of cablegram traffic worldwide). Checked the top of the report, and sure enough--the date was 01/01/1900.

My husband works for a chemical plant and was on that night. They were down and ready just in case. A big nothing obviously!

My dad's a nuclear engineer and he was on standby at the plant in case something happened there, too.

We went to a friend's Y2K party. She lived right around the corner from us, so we walked (which came in handy at 2:00 am when we had to get home). I discovered jello shots for the first time (at age 25) and thought they were the "cutest, little things I ever saw." When the clock struck midnight, friend's BIL shut the fuse box off to try to scare everyone. He might have succeeded if the street light in the front yard hadn't been so bright.

DD was born in October 2000, so we don't do all-night NYE stuff anymore. We always celebrate with the kids. Of course, in a few more years, we won't be cool and they'll want to hang out with their own friends for new year's.

We bought our first house in August of 2000, thus for the big hoopla of Y2K we were still living in a mobile home in a park.

About 11:50, I synchronized my watch to the TV celebrations. I donned my running shoes and coat and prepared outside in the back of my mobile home. I stood there ready to go watching my watch. As the time ticked down....

10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... Here we go... 1... I started running! As the clock changed to the dreaded midnight and the dawn of a new age with all the electric shutting down and the world going haywire, I ran through the back of the line of mobile homes and........

...... pulled all the power supply cords from everyone's trailers! :yay:

we were at an Austin Powers themed costume party for New Years Eve

Wow. It's been 10 years already. We stayed home waiting for the end to come but it never did. Should have went to Disney World instead.

Working. :( It was a wacky time for the IT world.

My DS was almost 2 years old & DD was almost 1 so I spent the evening at home with my new little family. If I recall I put the kids to bed early then woke them up for pictures and sparkling cider at 11:45, after all if WAS the change over to a new millennium and I couldn't let them miss that even if they had no idea:goodvibes Both the last day of 1999 and the first day of 2000 I went out and bought them both a bunch of newspapers with the dates on them to remember the occasion. I still remember :rotfl: when the lights and phones still worked.

I was 5-6. :P I believe we had dinner, watched A Charlie Brown New Year, then my mom sent us to bed. She woke us up around 11, with the living room all decorated in Y2K festive decorations, and we had some snacks and watched the ball drop. It was really fun.

I was 16, and I wasn't allowed out that late. :sad2: ;) I remember my then BF (now he's my DH! :goodvibes) was out with a friend, and I remember calling him and talking to him around 10pm, and then watching 2000 roll in on MTV.

Happenin' times.

This year isn't much more exciting. :rolleyes1

I was working. I was in charge of the Y2K team at my company. I lead the group that tested over 10,000 programs to make sure we'd have no Y2K glitches. It was a long and boring night...thank goodness. No big problems at all.

I was in Orlando at a condo in Westgate Lakes with my then 6yo son. I remember because I called my parents from that HUGE hot tub in the room to ask my Dad did he ever expect to see the year 2000 when he was born in 1919.... wow!

I lost him in 2003. :sad1: At least he saw a few year of the new millenium!

I was also waiting for my cousin's child to be born, who had the nerve to be born on 12/31/99 instead of 1/1/00 like we expected! He's ten years old today! :bday:

I was at a party at a friends house. I was SO tempted to sneak downstairs and throw the main breaker at midnight!

I was having my 21st birthday party: We went out bar hopping the night before :littleangel: and I got hammered.. I mean hammered... :dance3::dance3: I drank nothing at my party. Everyone else had a great time! Me not so much I was too hung over to move. :sad2: looking back I wouldnt change a thing! It was awesome! :rotfl:

I was at WDW. spent the day at MK and about the last 6 hours either in the Crystal Palace or on the porch watching the castle and eventually the fireworks.

I was at the hospital giving birth to my first DD. She was born at 2:00am 1-1-00. :woohoo: She was the first baby to be born in our county. It was a very special time in our lives. :goodvibes I do remember the TV being on in the hospital room and they were showing all the different celebrations around the world.

wdwgal

I didn't read past this bc my ds was actually due on Y2K...Dec 31, 1999. He came prematurely at 4.5 lbs. on 12/7, though, so by New Year's Eve, I had a 5 lb. newborn at home. I remember staying up with him and loving it so much that night. Hard to believe he was 10 this year!! Once again, I am home with him and his sister (just 12 months younger, age 9) and we're on our couch, by the fire, with our cats, just relaxing.
