What were you doing 10 years ago to celebrate?

Our family celebrated in Newport, KY (near Cincinnati) at the World Peace Bell. There were bands and singers, dancers, performers from all over the world, it was a big deal at the time, and my 4 kids were all there.

My youngest daughter had just turned 5, and we said, if you live to be an old, old lady, you will see 2100. You can tell them when you were a little girl and welcomed in 2000.

She's 15 now, of course, and will be bored spending NYE here at home with mom and dad. The older kids all have dates and/or parties.

Same thing I'm doing tonight...small dinner party at DSisIL's with a group of friends.

We were with good friends of ours at his parents house for a party. They had just gotten engaged and were in the fun stages of planning their wedding. Since DH and I had both just been asked to be in the wedding a few days prior we got the full brunt of their excitement and wedding plan talk :goodvibes I never forget his younger brother who was 12 at the time running around in his boxers at midnight in the street banging on pots and pans. He is now fresh out of college and a pro soccer player :lmao:

Its amazing how in those ten years we have all graduated college, bought houses, gotten married and had kids. Time really does fly!

I went to a party. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

My husband, son and I had a quiet night at home. My husband was very nervous about the New Year. He bought lots of bottled water and cans of tuna - just in case.

At about 12:05 a.m. when my husband realized the world wasn't coming to an end, he looked at us and said "Anybody want a tuna fish sandwich?" :rotfl:

My husband died last year at the age of 55. I would love to turn back the clock to New Year's Eve, 1999. :sad1:

I went to a party with my best friend. Her mom thought she was at my house and vice versa. Our other friend's mom (I haven't seen this girl in probably eight years) showed up at the party and picked her up. My best friend and I hid because we were intoxicated.
Then my best friend slept over.

Know what? I think I have spent every single New Years with BF since that year. Tonight we are going out together with our boyfriends....now I should try to remember how many different boyfriends we have spent New Years with! LOL

 Thanks for sharing your nice memory, I'm sorry about your loss.

There are some sweet memories on this thread!

New Year's Eve of 2000 was a memorable one, wasn't it? That afternoon, I went to the movies with my son and a friend and her daughter to see Stuart Little. We went to a friend's house that night. I can picture my son running around there in his footie pajamas. He was only 4 back then and so cute! :)

I was 14 and it was our first New Year's Eve without my Grandfather. He had passed in August and my Granmother came to spend it with us as they had always gone out to dinner. So it was my mom, Dad, Aunt, Grandma. Myself and my Best friend Derek. We spent the night eating and watching movies. Then when it was almost midnight Derek and I thought it would be funny to gather up "diaster relief items" and sit with them until after midnight. My family thought it was hilarious because we each held a flashlight and a can of corn.

I was laid up in bed with flu. This year will be the same as I have had a virus since christmas & can't summon the energy to go out to party

We had a huge party at our house. We had a bunch of our friends over, everyone brought their kids. We hired a couple fun babysitters to play games with the kids in our basement while the adults were upstairs playing card, etc. At midnight the town put on fireworks that we could see from our house so we went outside to watch those. It was very warm, 55 degrees, so we were all running around without jackets one. We had golfed earlier that day too! We had a blast that night!

Tonight, I don't think we are doing anything :lmao:

I worked in a bank back then, so I worked late that day printing out lots of back-up reports.

My dh proposed to me at dinner that night. After dinner we went to tell my Granny about the engagement (she died April of 2000 so she didn't make it to our wedding).

My boys were 8 and 5 and had their cousins stay the night who were 7 and 5.
We colored paper lunch bags, said our wishes for 2000 into them, blew them full of air and popped them at midnight.
My husband works for a chemical plant and was on that night. They were down and ready just in case. A big nothing obviously!

It's one of the few I remember just because of the kids. We don't do much for New Years and are usually asleep at 12:00. The last New Years that I remember going out was before we had kids and lived in Italy. A LONG time ago!

The circle I live on had a progressive dinner with adults and all of our children. We had a blast! I love our little circle.:cloud9:
