What was your first car?

1980 Diesel Chevy Chevette. They didn't make diesel's, but the previous owner put a diesel engine in. Needless to say, you could hear me coming from a mile away, and I parked the furthest away from my high school as I could because I was so embarrassed. I ended up totaling it a month to the day that I got it. You could even start the car without a key, or, in the middle of driving, pull the keys out and throw them on the dashboard and the car would continue to run.

My forst car was handed down to me when my father bought himself a new car. It sat under a car tarp for 6 months until the day I tuned 16 and got my license. I remember uncovering that car and driving it to the DMV with my parents on my 16th birthday, it was a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlas Ciera.

1985 maroon four-door Ford Escort hatchback. It was 11 years old at the time.

It was my BIL's car. It got the job done. :thumbsup2

My first NEW car was a 2002 Saturn SL1. Champaign (gold) colored. I loved that car.

Alyjoy, the Chevette did indeed offer a diesel engine. In late 1981 Chevrolet started offering it. The motor was really a 1.8 liter Isuzu. My step-monster... I mean mother had one brand spanking new.

I had a Yugo GVX for a short while when I was in the service. I had to look for my car more than once as people would play a prank on me by moving it. Once four sergeants put it up on top of a dumpster. I walked back to the BOQ that night.

My first was a dark green 1972 Ford LTD. I got it used in 1981. I was very excited!

It was a tank and people got out of my way when they heard it coming. It needed a new muffler which I couldn't afford. LOL

My first car was a 1973 Audi 100GL. It was given to me by my parents after my 1981 high school graduation.

1998 VW passat

OMG it was gorgeous and everyone stopped to stare at it. It was in the showroom when we went to test drive and literally 3 people tried to buy it while we were signing papers. The dealer had to hide the keys because other dealers were trying to find them. I hated getting rid of that car but 3 car seats wouldn't fit in the backseat.

I believe VW only did this color for 1 or 2 years.
This was the only pic I could find online, I can't believe I don't have any pictures.

What a great group of cars! Some of you had cars that I used to dream of.
Some had cars that I would have had nightmares of too.

My current wheels:

I notice a large number of former Ford Pinto owners out there. I thought I was one of an elite club having driven this fine piece of automotive engineering as my first vehicle.

My first car, a '73 Pinto, was the first Ford I ever owned. And also my last!

'92 Ford Tempo with no A/C in the dessert sun. Eventually the transmission started having issues and eventually gave out. Crappy car, but I lived it!

^ That's too funny ! :lmao:

DH's first car was--wait for it--a robin's egg blue Ford Anglia, manual transmission. He tells me it looks exactly like the car on the cover of the Harry Potter book, except of course, DH's car had the steering wheel on the left side.

Mine was a 1976 Spitfire convertible. Candy Apple Red, with Leather Interior and real wood paneling on the dashboard.QUOTE]

Me too! Mine was a 1979 Spitfire convertible. Orange-red with a black top. It had black and white houndstooth seats. Mine had the same wood paneling and would leak from underneath the dashboard every time it rained. The heater was about as warm as lighting a match and it had no air conditioner, of course. However, I loved it and would welcome it back into the family in a second if I came across it again!

LOL. Me too. I had a big rust spot underneath the drivers side floor mat. You could actually see the road go by if you lifted it up. Ran terrible, but I loved that car, and I would definitely get one again - if I could learn how to fix it myself !:thumbsup2
