What type of engineering do Imagineers specialize in?

I just earned my associates in general studies and I'm transferring into an electrical engineering program in the Fall. Are Imagineers mainly mechanical engineers? Are there any positions for electrical engineers? I'm just curious if i could have an opportunity to do a PI in the future.

I'm sure there are positions, because Imagineers aren't just engineers. Imagineering includes architecture, interior design, sculpture design, etc etc. Lots of crafts make up Imagineering.

I have wondered the same thing! I often check the jobs posted on the Walt Disney World website. I'm a chemical with a background in PSM, Environmental, and Technical Service. I never see any jobs in any of those categories. Most of the jobs posted are either high level mgmt, IT/computer science/software development.

One of my husbands clients is Disney imagineering. His company does architecture, autocad, software development, 3D design, the list goes on.....

Yeah they aren't really traditional engineers. They tend to be more creative types.

You need to keep in mind that Imagineers arent strictly engineers. Nor are they just 1 or 2 types of engineers, plus they are usually creative people who can dream up the magic while other engineers are needed to create and better plan it out. They are diverse (done alot of things and have had there fingers in many different pies), and more importantly are usually head hunted (so Disney seeks them out, not the other way around). With an electrical engineering degree, you may not ever become an Imagineer. Rather you might be able to become an Electrical Engineer for Disney.

But either way the best plan would be do get your degree and do the PI when you can. You at least get a chance to be seen/heard of from Disney and your peers.

If you're really interested, do Dining with an Imagineer at the Brown Derby. They'll answer your questions about whatever (except new projects).
