I am frustrated that I recommended a particular DVC member to close friends and initial contact was good but from mid-december until now there was no contract and no exchange of money and the ressie I am sure is non-existent. They planned a vacation for March 15 for a week at WL villas and are left hanging. how do I report this and make sure it is followed up on or is there really nothing that can be done?

It is doubtful that VWL was available for the time they wanted. Do they have a reservation number already? You may want to pm the person involved yourself to inquire if your comfortable. I hope it works out.

Who do you want to report it to? DVC does not get involved in member's rental activities, that is spelled out in the contract.

I do understand that they don't get involved in a particular way, I just wasn't sure if there was a place to post in the forum to alert other people about attempting to rent with this person. We had a great experience but unfortunately they didn't. they have been working on this since last november. I think any one would like to know the track record of a DVC member so that it would be a little more assurance of a good outcome.

Just one of the concerns about renting a DVC reservation. I suggest you contact the member and see what happened. That's about all you can do.

I don't think the DIS will allow one DIS member to dis another DIS member. :rolleyes2 In other words, you can't post a negative thread about another person by name.

Why not???? :confused3 I feel the member should be called out on the rent /trade board so nobody goes through this again with them. Is it against the rules?

My understanding is that DIS doesn't want to get in the middle or act as judge and jury and that it is against the rules. Remember that there are at least 2 sides to every story.

Why was there no exchange of money? If no money exchanged hands, was there really a reservation? My guess is there is something not even you know about this. Perhaps they were told there was no availability at that resort for that time, and there was a misunderstanding about "what to do next". I would definitely try to contact the person who was renting the points, if you know how to contact them.

Yes, it is against DIS site guidelines. Here is an excerpt from one of the "Sticky" threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Forum:

Discussion about individuals offering/inquiring about rental is also not allowed and will be removed. Since we have no means to verify information from any participants in these transactions, we can't allow accusations and will consider them as personal attacks in violation of our site guidelines.

Sticky: A Word about Posts on this Board! *Please Read- BEFORE Posting*

Best wishes -

I agree with Diane. Something is amiss. If no money exchanged hands, why were they hanging on?

Maybe it was a miscommunication and in this case, it's not like the member took the money and ran. The member did not benefit at all so I think it would be premature to make any assumptions.

As for the potential renters reading this thread, I would consider the "ball in play" until a confirmation is received and money has been exchanged. Then and only then do you have an agreement based on trust. If you do not have these, then you dont have a reservation and should secure one.

I feel bad for your friends - but they could still book accommodations somewhere in Disney I'm sure. What i don't understand is the no money has exchanged hands part. Did they really enter into any type of agreement? If I were renting points out to someone, I would want the cash before I made the ressy - especially if it meant borrowing points from the next use year, or was close to the end of this use year.

Surely this is not too bad - they have lost no money and still have time to reserve somewhere else. They may not be dvc accommodations, but then they're not dvc members.

I've read a few posts on these boards where people have bragged that dvc is not financially worth it and they can always pick up points cheaply from a renter. This just goes to show how things can go wrong. The chances of your friends being able to get WLV at this late stage is slim, even if they were able to rent points of someone else. Which just goes to show that points aren't cheap for the picking year in and out.

Tell them to try and get the Annual Pass discount. The pass will probably pay for itself. It is a decent price, although not as good as week day DVC rental.

I also agree with Dianne. This just doesn't sound right. On the surface, it sounds much more like a missed communication than a bad rental.

If they had rented a ressie, they would have paid at least something to the DVC owner. And frankly, if the DVC owner knew what they were doing, they would have paid in full by now. They also should have been given at least a confirmation number, and many DVC owners would have provided them with a copy of the confirmation letter, as well as their contact information and the MS number to check the ressie.

If they never paid a penny, and never received any of the above, what made them think they had a reservation in the first place?

It sounds to me like the owner may have checked availability for them and then neither party followed up on the initial contact. "Yes, there is availability..." is not an agreement, nor is it a reservation.

One thing they could do before panicking is to just call MS and see if there is a ressie in their name for the dates they wanted.
