I have a question...my sister and I will be getting a 2 bedroom villa for 8 nights at SSR in May 2009. I am using my DVC points (she is not a member.) We agreed that she would pay for her share (at her assistance - not mine) what do you think I should charge her? If she booked a regular room it would be $2500 for the same dates, I think this is WAY too much.
Do you think $1000 is too much?

Seems reasonable....It is less than half of what she would be paying for rack rate.
You will get lots of opinions, you may have read a similar thread about the same subject.

If you read where cool family members and friends leave members stuck with a ressie and they have no plans of attending, makes one understand WHY someone would charge family or friends for their part of the rental. Get the deposit before making the dvc ressie!!
I have hosted family for free and I have charged family. In the case, where I hosted the family members they donated their time to babysit my kids so I could go out with hubby as wanted...that was well worth the price tag!!

the other family member I charged what it would cost me to rent a studio with my dvc discount. I am not point rich, nor am I cash rich. I chose to spend what extra money i had on DVC, so it works for me to charge at least something to help with yearly fees etc...
my guests or family are always welcome to spend the money and buy dvc as well

I think $1000 for 8 nights sounds perfectly fair. That's $125 per night, which is what they'd pay for a room at the Value resorts but they'll have a much, much nicer space so it works out for both of you. $100-125 per night is what we charge when guests insist on paying.

My DH and I are going to buy when Cali goes on sale, knock on wood, but in the meantime, we usually stay in a 2 or 3 bedroom suite at the GCH, so that our family can come and enjoy the time with us.

Those rooms usually run over 1k a night, with concierge service. But I LOVE my whole family to be together.

So my adult children and their significant others stay free of charge, my sister's fam and my mum chip in the same amount they would pay to stay at a Ho Jo's across the street.

I am sure I spend the money on one meal, but it is worth it to me to share the disney experience with my niece and nephew, whom we don't see often enough.

They are not in a position to stay at the Grand for the length of time we go, usually 4 or 5 nights.

I am so waiting for those Villas to be built. You cannot believe.

Luckily we are very thrifty otherwise, but I do splurge on my Disney fix!

Our charge is minimal. We get the master bedroom and 1 sit down dinner. The real payout is being able to witness the magic as a first timer experiences it and knowing that our good fortune allowed us to bring that into the life of someone we care about.
The grand gathering photo in our signature is real......fab 5 rented for 30 minutes and a disney photographer for an hour in front of cindys castle before the park opened.
That was cool. The blowups are awesome. The kids were excited and the adults were teary eyed, myself included. We pulled off a big surprise. That's our payout.
