what the heck is wrong with miracle whip?

Gross. I like mayo, dislike miracle whip.

When I was a little girl, I had a ham sandwich at my friend's house. I remember it was the best ham sandwich I'd ever eaten. I told my mom about it, but we couldn't figure out why it was so good. My mom only used Miracle Whip, but years later after having mayo somewhere else, I realized that's why the sandwich tasted do good!

I love Miracle Whip; DH loves Kraft Mayo. Both jars sit harmoniously in the fridge side door. :)

I like mayo in all my foods. I don't care for miracle whip. I don't like sweet pickles or pickle relish either. Just me. I also don't like a sweet tomato sauce on my pizza or pasta. Everyone is allowed to choose for themselves, right? I do have to say my MIL once made a broccoli cheese casserole, a favorite recipe in the family, and used miracle whip instead of mayo. OMG it was so bad. Can you imagine cheese sauce with miracle whip??? :scared:

I did get a great recipe from her once. She makes a great molded jello and pineapple salad she made a dressing for on the side. All it takes is equal parts miracle whip and cool whip. You can add a little more cool whip to taste but it is a really nice flavor and can be used for a fruit dip too. So simple and the only use I have for miracle whip. ;)

I am a pure butter and Hellman's mayo girl. Butter because it isn't very processed and just tastes good, and mayo because it is mild and can be flavoured any way I want it - it's a good base. In a sandwich I mainly use it to stick the ingredients together so they don't fall right out of the sandwich - I then flavour with mustard or hot sauce. In a salad (potato, chicken, tuna) I am adding other flavours anyway so I'd rather the mayo be as plain as possible. In a salad I am also using it as a binder rather than a flavour.

I could say because it is icky (grin), but the real reason is that it is too obvious. When you use MW, your food tastes like MW, while Mayo can be flavoured any way that you like.

The ingredients of MW are :
Ingredients: WATER, SOYBEAN OIL, VINEGAR, SUGAR, MODIFIED CORNSTARCH, EGGS, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SALT, MUSTARD FLOUR, PAPRIKA, SPICE, NATURAL FLAVOR, POTASSIUM SORBATE AS A PRESERVATIVE, ENZYME MODIFIED EGG YOLK, DRIED GARLIC. CONTAINS: EGG.

I'm really not much of a mustard person; and if I wanted it on my sandwich I would have put it there. However, for me, the dealbreaker is the soybean oil. I don't eat soy if I can avoid it; I'm sensitive to it and it makes me itch if I eat too much of it.

Well I find them both disgusting and can't even scrape them off a sandwich and still eat it ;)

I love Miracle Whip -- always have. Add me to the group that finds mayonnaise to be about as appealing as Vaseline.

Here are the ingredients on the jar just pulled from my frig. Soybean oil, water, eggs, vinegar, salt, sugar, lemon, calcium do sodium EDTA and natural flavor. I'm sure if it had even a smidgen of peanuts it would be plastered all over the jar.

That is so crazy that it had peanuts in it over there.

Thank you so much for posting the ingredients! No wonder the mayo here tastes so bad. I use it in salad dressing because it will get drowned out with other seasonings, but sometimes I just like a chicken and mayo sandwich, without peanuts.

I stand corrected, there is sugar in mayo.

I don't what the difference is I guess, I just don't like Miracle Whip!

And I still don't like sugar in potato salad!

I eat Hellman's Mayo - no sugar.

I also dislike Miracle Whip.

Ditto all that.
I don't eat MW, Dukes mayo or Hellmans is my fave. dH won't eat MW or mayo, he hates them both and thinks I'm gross for keeping it in our fridge, lol

Also hate sugar in cornbread (though sweet cornbread is DHs favorite, I always add some to the last bit of batter for his muffins)
And hate sweet pickles
Hate sugar on grits, or syrup on sausage :p

I love sweets, just not those foods

Sugar on grits. Yuck. Salt, pepper and lots of butter or margarine
