What sells on ebay these days. Big money makers??

I used to sell on ebay antiques, odds and ends. I hated the packing of antiques. There were some things I made money on but it just got old. I wouldn't mind giving it another try. Does anyone have ideas of easier things to sell? What are the big money makers ect...?

The higher ebay listing fees, final value fees and paypal fees along with the major changes to the feedback system so that sellers can only leave positives for buyers have made ebay an unfriendly place for small time sellers.

It's not worth the headache. Have you tried Craigslist? Cash only, no feedback and no shipping.

I have to agree.. Unless you're selling the same type of product over and over (more or less a mass production-assembly line type thing) or are basically running a store-type set up with many, many of the same item that certain people are interested in, the hassle just isn't worth it - nor has it been for quite some time now..

The days of picking up an item for 10 cents in a garage sale and selling it for $12 on eBay are long gone.. The bids aren't there and the hoops you have to jump through just aren't worth it..

We (myself, DD, and her DH) do all of our selling on Craigslist now.. We get the price we want; no packing; no shipping; no problems; are able to sell very, very large items (car hoods; snowblowers; a/c's; etc.) without worrying about someone from China bidding on them - LOL - and best of all the transactions are all in cash..

My son-in-law handles all of it - we just tell him how much we "want" for the items (unless of course they're his - LOL) - and then sit back and wait for the cash to come rolling in..

Ebay was nice - once upon a time - but it's becoming bottom-of-the-barrel for many people now.. I used to be a seller and a buyer - now I won't do either.. It's just not worth it anymore - no "bargains" to be had and no real money to be made for us "non-store" types.. It's a shame - because I really used to enjoy it at one time..

Old paper goods sell very well for me. I have been taking apart magazines and selling the old ads (be sure to use the correct clear bag for packing, people getting older paper goods are pretty fussy. I get mine at clearbags.com). I have lots of very old paper products from the worlds fair, train schedules, old maps, old calendars, old postcards (which I pick up at garage sales super cheap, and auctions with boxes of paper goods for $1 are great fun..lots to sell on eBay (and the few boxes of junk that aren't worth anything..but even that is a fun time out LOL), Easy to pack and ship. I also still have an attic full from cleaning out grandparents houses and that stuff (unique) still does OK. I like to garage sale for old toys,and tupperware as they do well with collectors, and of course I still find barbies at garage sales...do these people not know about eBay themselves?

I also have a business selling personalized items and nothing has changed there. Still selling well, (although not like when I was the only one selling them, however, the best thing for me on eBay, is that I direct people to my website, where I have only Paypal fees, (and $10 a year for the actual site) and while I have to keep the items a couple penny's more than eBay to have eBay allow me to 'advertise' it on 'about me', I can knock down the s/h and so those items are less expensive.

I now have three names on eBay, as I found it's best to keep my buying bargains a secret, so I can sell them for more than I bought them for, because I still find bargains on eBay. It's a nice part time job, and once the item is packed and ready to go, we run our eBay while traveling in our RV. I bring the stuff I personalize, and a net book and we are good to go have fun, and earn money. I wasn't happy when they changed the feedback system, but we are still at 100% for all three names (a combined feedback of 15,000), so I guess we are doing something right...hope I didn't jinx myself!

I use Craig's list occasionally, but only for stuff too big to ship. I'm not comfortable giving out my address, letting people know when I'm available and I'm too busy to meet people elsewhere.

From myself as a buyer I have been buying more stuff using amazon. I have seen better prices on amazon compared to ebay. And it also seems when I use amazon that the products get to me faster too.

Me too. Also, I've found that by using the bing.com cashback offers and/or internet codes, I can generally do better than ebay for buying. I used to sell some on ebay, but like the others have said, with the increase in fees it's just not worth it anymore.

I used to buy and sell a ton on e-bay but now not so much. e-bay has really gone downhill with their changes. Most little people don't sell on their anymore so fewer and fewer people are buying because they just can't get the bargains anymore. Right now I just sell used items that I think will sell well. I will be selling my kids' used clothing in another month as it's all brand name, practically brand new so worth way more than I'd get on craigslist for it, and I sell some books but not the big lots I used to sell as I can't put in a large enough shipping cost to cover my cost . The rest of what I have just is going to charity instead - it's easier and actually less expensive.

I still sell alot..some weeks are OK and some are awful. I like treasure hunting at yard sales and thrift stores. Craigslist isn't really practical since I live in a small area, and I think Amazon really has high fees, plus you have to pay to ship out of pocket, while I do all my shipping on Ebay through Paypal. I generally sell easy to ship items, and it seems when I ship bigger things something always happens no matter what..(just refunded 100 for a vitamix for breakage in a well packed box..that will teach me)

I've sold some baby and maternity things recently and done fairly well. (Some of the things I got for free, so my profit was 100% there.) I don't sell enough to make a business out of it, I just sell when I have something I need to get rid of that I know I can make money on. I use Craigslist for things too big to ship, but in general I find Craigslist to be a hassle - you have to give out your phone number & home address, arrange a time for the buyer to come pick up the item, and half the time the people don't even show up. I also usually get a lot of e-mails from CL with ridiculously low "offers" even if I state in the listing that my price is firm. With eBay, they bid, they pay, you ship, it's done. I've never run into any major problems with my eBay sales, knock wood, so I'll keep selling there when I have something worth selling.

To me Ebay sellers are asking way too much for their stuff!!! why buy something off of ebay at a price more expensive than I can buy it at a store and not have to pay shipping!!! Like Halloween costumes for the MNSSHP. On ebay the one I want is $59.99 plus shipping. I can get it from one of the halloween stores online for $39.99 Why would I pay $20 more for it on ebay. And the people with the OBO on their listings wont accept any price you send them, so I dont see the point in that.....Ok, vent over. Sorry. Just dont see the point!!!

Did you have insurance? It's only .55 through Inkfrog. I add it to my handling. It protects me.

Selling on eBay is like any other place to sell. You will only be succesful, it you sell what other's want. Sounds like you have found what works for you. The completed auctions on eBay are my best friends. I look to see what is selling successful and try to sell those items.

There are still a lot of sellers on eBay, including small ones. Instead of seeing people dropping out, like some have said, I see more and more sellers. That's what makes the price go down..when you have 30 people selling the same things. So, you have to hunt and look and see what is a better item for you to sell, and get that item up. There are lots of niches, and you just have to find yours. We can't blame eBay, if we are selling gift items, and no one is buying them, at prices we need to get, in order to make money. Instead, we have to move on and find something people do want.

If they are truly the same items, it is silly, that people don't look around, but they don't. I sold my used Mickey Mouse luggage (which I hated) for almost four times what I paid for it (I got it on a good sale), and for more than it could be bought for new. The people were thrilled, and I sure wasn't going to tell them they could find it cheaper elsewhere. Sometimes I want to say..stop bidding, you are letting the excitement get to you, but I don't, I just take the money and plan another vacation with it.

The excitement of bidding really does get to some people, I've sold some silly little items for stupid amounts of money. I've also done well selling certain collectibles and offering overseas shipping, because the company itself won't ship overseas so the secondary market is the only way for overseas buyers to get these items.

I hate to admit it, but I just started selling on ebay this month. I always meant to get in to it, but never did.

I don't know how it was before, but imho it has been pretty easy! I work in the leasing office for a office warehouse complex and we get some pretty weird stuff people leave behind.

At the momment...I am selling a large amount of NWT/NIB shoes. I set-up the auction with priority mail shipping (paid by the buyer) and I set the minnimum at something I can live with. I have not been doing too bad...selling maybe 50% of my listings. I do not do anything fancy, so it only cost me $.30 per listing.

Of course, I am a total newb and may be getting hosed!

It sure is nice to click a few buttons and see that cash in my ebay checking account!!!

I hope to make enough to pay for dog boarding and food for a short trip to DL next Thanksgiving! I already have saved up enough frequent flyer miles to get us flights and disney rewards to buy park tickets plus some!

I have sold & bought on and off for almost 11 years. Ebay has it's own ups and downs. Depends in what you're buying/selling. I normally sell boutique or custom children's clothing, or children's items. I've had up and down. I hate the new feeback system, I hate the changes Paypal made. I think there are tons more scammers right now, both buying & selling. Be careful, be clear, and honest... that's your best bet

It is costing you much more than 30 cents to sell. It may be costing you that to list EACH auction but you also have to pay FVF (final value fees) based on the amount your item sold for and you then have to pay paypal fees for the requirement of accepting paypal.

Have you checked your ebay fees that are due lately? They seem to add up quick!

I'm thinking of selling some hanna andersson clothing that the girls have outgrown, but I stopped selling a few years ago because Ebay was just getting so problematic. I'm torn between trying to give it another try and just finding a friend who wants them who has younger kids.

It seems like every other day there's somebody talking about how they got scammed...

Heard on the news earlier today that eBay has had yet another slump in sales this year so in an effort to turn things around, they will be making some changes..

There also seems to be a push to go with "fixed" prices as opposed to auctions where buyers can bid items up..

They claim these changes will be "good" for all sellers, but it looks to me like another attempt on their part to push the small sellers out - and reinvent themselves as an Amazon.com wanna-be..
