What sells on ebay these days. Big money makers??

It's been awhile since I sold anything on ebay. I got burned by a buyer and I have taken a long break. I banned that buyer so that one will not cause a stir again.

I may start some selling in the Fall. I've been looking into some other options as well. I need to declutter and we have some good stuff we aren't using. I have been donating some things to different organizations, but I'd like to sell again too.

In the past, I have been successful selling large things on ebay. I sold them for pick up only and made arrangements to meet at a public place (mall, library) during day time/operating hours. It worked out fine. Most times the people lived somewhat near and I'd meet them half-way at an agreed upon place. I still accepted only PayPal prior to drop off. I will probably do that some more, as I had no problems.

Count me in as another past ebay seller who has given it up due to the constant policy changes and increased fees. I started selling on ebay 11 years ago where I could easily net $80 for a Gymboree swing top, pair of leggings, and a pair of socks. Those were the good old days, even when sellers had to type their own auctions one at a time (no listing programs back then), and we had to wait for snail mail to get money orders (no Paypal back then).

What to sell now? A poster earlier today was looking for a Mickey Waffle maker. I checked on ebay and those suckers were ending at $70-$90. I thought hmmmm... Maybe I'll sell mine. I bought mine on Amazon a couple of years ago for $12.99 from a tip on this budget board.

A trick I've discovered is offering free shipping...we all like getting something for free right. I've made more money on items that I've previously sold with $4.95 shipping. Go figure!

I'm thinking of selling some hanna andersson clothing that the girls have outgrown, ..

I recently sold all of our Hannas and did quite well. Some of the prices people paid were insane, but I wasn't complaining. Mini Boden did me well too. One dress went for over 50.00 when I paid 8.00 for it last year and my dd wore it 5 x!

I also have had some luck with my used gymboree but not anywhere near what I used to get. I have about 3 or 4 more boxes of "stuff" and I am done with ebay. It was good while it lasted.

I sell on ebay - mostly girls stuff. I don't think there's any one big money maker that works for everyone or we'd all be selling it.

What I would suggest is to find something that you like, learn even more about it, watch items in that category so you can see how the other sellers present their items, as well as the starting bids and how much items end for. When you concentrate on things you know & like, it's easier to price, write the descriptions, arrange interesting pictures, answer bidder's questions and even see those things hiding at yard sales when you never did before (kind of like how when you're pregnant, it seems like everybody is expecting b/c you notice them more). You'll also develop a following if you keep listing in the same category.

I don't like free shipping. I was told once long ago in ebay's good old days that people expect to pay to ship their items so it was better to start cheaper than to offer free ship. As a bidder I tend to figure in the shipping cost for my max bid so I might bid a tiny bit more for free shipping but not more than postage costs. I do keep my shipping costs low compared to the other sellers in my category and have, at times, lost money but it usually evens out.

I wish you luck. The new ebay is not a happy place for sellers. Registering a new bidder account is almost like getting a license to steal in the "new, improved ebay marketplace". :sad2:

I used to sell a little bit of toddler clothes on ebay and used Auctiva for the free templates, now they charge. Does anyone know of a similar site that is free?

For most of the clothes I now take them to a consignment shop that pays cash on the spot. I brought in a few huge bins of infant and toddler clothing and got $260! It was a 20 minute drive and 1 hour appointment. For me to make that on ebay after fees it would take forever! The Hanna Andersson & designer stuff will go to a shop closer to Boston where it is more in demand.

I have had good luck on Craigslist, my only problem is people will tell you they really want something then not email you back. I have also found on CL if you have something else similar, have it when you meet the person. I was selling an infant car seat, base and stroller frame to a grandma. I brought out the pack and play and she bought that also.

I hardly ever buy on e-bay b/c hubby hates it.

The only thing that I sold well was a duplicate furnishing for the Dora Explorer House that I lost the receipt on a few years back. That was at Christmas. (I didn't do it with intent to profit, but gladly accepted 3x what I paid for it.)

The last time I bought was last year as my daughter really wanted a game that was at a psychologist she visited. Scooby Doo Clue. It was no where to be found on line or anywhere except on E-bay. We got lucky and someone had it with a Buy It Now. So I did that option.

I like e-bay for niche hard to find items. It got carried away with Christmas profiteering though and the garage sale bit. (people selling crap hoping to profit big time.)

I personally am glad that they took the negatives that buyers can leave for sellers only b/c after I left a very justifiable negative for a buyer, he left one for me when he cleary did not meet his selling obligation by a long shot. I had bought Kirby vacuum bags from a bunch he was selling and never got them. When I left the negative after trying several e-mails and 2 months later (he claimed he oversold and ran out). I suddenly received a package of many packs of them. Left me a negative for complaining b/c I got my product as promised. Ummm--no--I got it very late after complaining when I was told he had no more. Then I got more than I paid for.:rotfl:
